The service was impeccable. Our tour concierge, Karin was not only knowledgeable, but very friendly and courteous and bent over backwards to meet all of our needs. The coach driver, Sean was also an experienced driver and knowledgeable sharing his traditions, and Irish folklore the accommodations, and the food were outstanding. I would highly recommend this tour.

This was a great xperience with my travel advisor and your staff when I expressed my desire to stay in a Castle and they made it happen. Advising and following up with other contracted vendors was also great.

Initial booking by phone was tricky as I could not get through to a customer service person. Once able to speak to someone all went well. Communication mostly by email and response always prompt. Able to order my choice of a carry bag and drink bottle from luxury gold. Also pick up from home and airport before and after tour great. George, my driver was faultless and his Merc immaculate. The instructions for the pick up was communicated clearly by email and I contacted company in Sydney and a Melbourne limo was organised. Same driver both trips.

The tour locations were very nice - our 3rd luxury gold tour on the last 2 years.
Italy and new Zealand previously. This made this tour SO DISAPPOINTING! We are seriously considering whether we will book a future booking with Insight. There were several areas for improvement.
1. The driver was not up to our prior experience. He was a rookie on this route and got us lost at least 4 times. We had to double back and made 2 u turns backing up into traffic. There was a breakdown in communication between the driver and tour director. I felt this driver was thrown in the last minute - coming all the way from Naples. One time we were headed for the wrong city and had to back track 30 minutes.
2. While the chateau in Provence was nice, it was 30 minutes from the city. We were trapped and no shuttle service to town. Ended up with a very expensive meal and no time to explore Provence.
3. The schedule changed from what was advertised without any notice. Lunch in Provence was on our own and was to be a paid for activity.
4. The pace was impacted by guests not able to handle the activity level of the trip. Walking tours were cut short, always waiting for a very limited number of guests to catch up. The tour director - Sarah - was forced to cater to the few who held us back. In our meeting the first day - one guest asked if there would be a wheel chair on the bus to help guests. Serious consideration must be given to communicating the pace and nature of tours including walking and uneven stairs - a physical reality in Europe.
5. Was confused by the guidelines on number of bags able to be under the coach. Some guests had 2 bags each to deal with. Is it one bag per person. We waited regularly for guests to sort out their extra bags under the coach.
6. While knowledgable - Sarah - our tour director- was not familiar with the tour route and stops either. I believe she was filling in for someone on vacation she said. If Luxury Gold does not have the capacity to run a tour we paid much more for than a "normal tour" - Gold plus small group - remove the dates. This was not a good experience. From our experience - it felt we were the first to try this tour route as there were changes to the advertised events.
7. I asked my wife if I should express my displeasure from day 2 - she said to wait and share here. I found myself counting to 5 and breathing to reduce my stress and disappointment almost daily as we stood around waiting for others or needed to use Sarahs phone for directions - as the bus driver did not have a clue or any technology to show him where to go.
8.WIFI on bus. Said it was available - did not work and really no effort to fix it.
9. Time to shop or explore in cities. Maybe if we had not been lost or closer to the city in Provence - we would have had time.
10. The cannel ride was historically cool - however 2 hours to ride up and back without any meaningful scenery was a waste. If we going by historic sites or scenery - would be great - it was just factories and channel banks and one lock.
We did like the cities visited - the UNESCO sites visited and the convertible car in the countryside. The location of the hotels within the Chateau's are unique and able to walk the cities. Bike ride was nice and cool way to explore the city. Sarah's walking tours were nice nad very full of detials of French history and was very educational.
