Price was great but realized we had to pay for taxi or transfers to get to our tours. So would add those in next time. I would also upgrade the hotel. Muli was fine and beds comfortable but reminded me of an upscale hostel.
Tours were great and exactly what we wanted to see. BJ was the best tour guide.food expensive so we went to the grocery store and got brkft and stuff for some lunches and dinners.

Reasonable trip length for an introductory visit to Portugal at a competitive price. Hotels were comfortable and convenient.
Would have appreciated better & earlier communications about the travel arrangements before the trip's start (e.g., train schedule). Also there was some confusion about the return transatlantic flight - different airlines and different booking codes appeared in different places. Couldn't view the booking, select seats, and generate boarding passes for it. Gate agent was also unable to find it initially.

Package included RT air from New York to Lisbon, 6 nights hotel, and one way train fare Lisbon to Porto. All was good, but a little more detail would have helped with train to Porto as we were unaware all seats were reserved by car number and seat number. Much different than many other Europe trains ridden. Overall was a good experience.

We chose this company because the price made the trip possible since it was such a great deal. GVV communicated everything well and the itineraries are easy to follow. We didn't love Icelandair as our flight to Ireland was canceled last minute. We were rescheduled but were to arrive 6 hours later than planned. Then the weather out of JFK was going to make us miss our new connection in DC so I had to call Icelandair and have them put us on another flight. The rental car experience was great! The 2 places GVV booked for our stays were wonderful. The B&B's were ok. The best bet is to book early and carefully read the reviews and consider what is in the area plus driving distance.

Amazing safari experience. Having the Capetown peninsula tour was like cherry on the cake. Dollar goes far in SA which is a plus. Having more premium hotel choices would have been nice.

I think that the Airline times on layover were to long for them, they could have found better ones for them.
The Hotels where they stay were way to far from where they were sightseen, I believe they waste a lot of traveling time more than touring.

I liked the experience. I did not like how much it was self-guided. I felt like we were taken to the cheapest locations to eat. We didn't have any of the local food, except maybe once. It was thai, italian, poland, etc.

Great trip overall. We had 4 couples traveling together. We all purchased the same package and paid the same. We worked directly with GVV reps to tie our accounts together so we would be treated equally and as one group. However, we did not all get same class levels for our airfare (2 not having a checked bag included) and train schedules varied for 2. We made the best of it and overall it was an incredible trip. It just came with additional unexpected expenses and undesirable stress to half the group. We’ll travel again with GVV, but next time we’ll all book together as one reservation to ensure everyone is treated equally.

We have used GVV for several trips. This trip was fine except for our hotels. The hotel in London was ok but really far away from areas that we wanted to explore and the hotel in Paris was not as advertised. There was no air conditioning and the carpet was dirty. The room was so tiny we couldn’t unpack and we had air pods stolen from our room. It was also 1/2 mile to the subway station and was not situated anywhere close to the main tourist sites. I’d definitely check out the hotels before booking another trip.

Beware of EF's shaky travel plans March 2023

Our trip leader, Daniel, was great. Was super pleased with his leadership and how he interacted with the adults and kids (I went on the trip with my daughter. I also am a teacher at our school but I was not acting as one of the chaperones.)
The two local guides that EF provided were also great~interesting, well-read and knew how to keep teens' attention.
The drivers and buses were great~top of the line.
The sites we went to were interesting. What really made the trip was our excellent students and the parents that went. Spending time with this group was amazing.
Dinners were rough. Each night was a meat in some kind of sauce either on noodles or mashed potatoes. I am not a picky eater at all, and I was yearning for something (anything!) fresh, just like the kids and other adults.
I am REALLY dissatisfied with EF's travel arrangements. On this most recent trip, EF didn't give us our flight info until a few weeks before the tour. Our group was split and my group had a 10-hour layover in Miami. On the way home, our group SPLINTERED and had to fight to get home. We literally had people flying all over US, trying to get back to Nashville. Ten people had to remain in England for another day. Two ion those that gave up their seats so kids could travel were chaperones who got to their homes 9 hours before they had to be in their classrooms to teach.
EF did the EXACT SAME THING last summer on another tour that my daughter was on without me to Europe. We got her flight info LESS THAN TWO WEEKS before she was set to depart. On that tour, they had to divide the group. Her group was stranded in Toronto for three days, missing a chunk of the European tour. They spent most of those days sitting in the Toronto airport.
This seems RIDICULOUS to me. If I am correct, airlines open flights 6 months before a flight. EF should have had our tickets months in advance, since our group booked a year in advance. It seems clear that somehow they are trying to increase their profit margin by playing the airlines.
I am a Spanish teacher and plan to go on all of my teacher sites and warn my colleagues that if they use EF, they need to plan on major traveling headaches and stomach aches.

My 13 year old son went on a Europe Trip with his High School for a 10 day trip in March 2023.
positives: the experience, the memories, the GUIDE for the trip, the excursions, the cities visited.
negatives: the accomodations and the transportation. CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP. Accommodations seemed like hostels almost. Thank goodness, I upgraded my son to a two person room. I cannot even imagine what it would have been like in those dirty rooms that were small and cramped with stained sheets etc..... non -flushing toilets in some. Also, British Airways was horrible for air- travel. They don't let 'groups' have assigned seats prior to CHECK IN AT THE AIRPORT. Ridiculous. I wanted to upgrade my child to at least an "aisle" seat, if not, closer to the front of the plane. Our kids were put in seats that were left over on the plane not sold. Beyond upsetting the cheapness of the flights that were so LOOOOOONNNNNGG.
Also, I was not okay with EF travel NOT providing the ground transpiration from city to city during the 10 days on their itinerary. I never knew prior to departure or while on the trip, if my son would be on a bus, train, car etc... to get from city to city. I didn't know how long each journey would take from city to city either. EF says they do not include that on their itineraries. NEVER okay for a parent NOT to KNOW where their child is, for how long, and by what forms of transportation.
Would I let me children take a tour again on EF if another school trip comes around? NO.
UNLESS. they let us:
1)have seat assignments prior to departure to upgrade or get a better seat. without a seat assignment/ticket prior to departure, nothing can be done to get your child out of a middle seat of 4 with strangers.
2) better accommodations. I am sure parents would pay a little extra to provide a safe, comfortable and better/cleaner accommodations.

It is difficult to get ahold of a real person at GVV. Especiallypne who wants to help instead of pawning one off to someoneelse constantly. The travel time is an all dat affair, with flights and long layovers. Shorter travel time feom orgin to destination and or direct flights would be less harmful on the people. Some hotels were unacceptable as they had poor service, accommodations and were and hour plus from town shown in package purchased. Which also increases one's drive/travel time. I would not purchase another vacfeom GVV for the reasons above along with how the situation was handled during COVID pandemic.
