Itinerary
Day 1: Launceston – Cradle Mountain
Meals: Dinner
Accommodation: Cradle Mountain Lodge
After arriving in Launceston you’ll meet your Tour Director and fellow travellers. We’re then off to Josef Chromy Wines for some wine tasting. Then it’s on to Cradle Mountain. Located on the edge of the spectacular World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park, it’s one of Tasmania’s premier wilderness regions. Tonight, enjoy dinner in the Highland Restaurant.
Day 2: Cradle Mountain
Meals: Breakfast
Today is free for you to choose from our range of optional experiences:
Take a guided or self-guided bush walk around Dove Lake
Go canoeing on Dove Lake (seasonal)
Take off on a horse riding adventure
Pamper yourself with a treatment at the Waldheim Alpine Spa
This evening you’ll learn about local produce with wine and cheese tasting and later it’s your choice for dinner.
Day 3: Cradle Mountain – Corinna
Meals: Breakfast and Dinner
Accommodation: Corinna Wilderness Experience
Now we’re off journeying into the Tarkine wilderness as we wind our way through spectacular mountains and the valleys. Also known as ‘the forgotten wilderness’, it’s a place of natural beauty, with an abundance of natural attractions including the world’s largest tracts of untouched rainforest. It’s also considered to be one the world’s greatest archaeological regions with over 1,000 Aboriginal sites. Our next destination is Corinna, a restored historic settlement set on the Pieman River on the Tarkine’s southern boundary, with access by gravel road and vehicle barge only. We arrive mid-morning so there’ll be plenty of time to try one of the optional experiences to help you appreciate this pristine wilderness. Choose from a cruise or paddle in a kayak on the Pieman River to connect with the rainforest or take a self-guided walk through ancient rainforest. Dinner tonight is in Corinna’s rustic restaurant set in the middle of the wilderness.
Day 4: Corinna – Strahan
Meals: Breakfast and Dinner
Accommodation: Strahan Village
This morning is yours to ‘do today what you didn’t do yesterday’ and choose from a range of activities.
Early afternoon we leave Corinna taking the barge across the river and then continue through Zeehan to Strahan. Before arriving in Strahan we’ll stop at Ocean Beach to marvel at the dramatic west coastline. Then it’s on to our accommodation at Strahan Village.
Day 5: Gordon River Cruise
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
Cruise on Macquarie Harbour and the Gordon River, within the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Witness the tranquil beauty as you glide alongside ancient rainforests mirrored in the water. Afterwards you’ll learn about our convict past with a visit to historic Sarah Island. Then the rest of the day is yours to relax, or enjoy an optional scenic flight:
Take a Franklin River helicopter flight over Huon Pine rainforest, land at the top of Mt. Jukes, one of the highest peaks of the west coast ranges and enjoy views of King River Gorge.
Or experience the Gordon River region from the air on a seaplane flight, including a landing on Gordon River, Sarah Island and the entrance to Macquarie Harbour.
Day 6: Strahan – Hobart
Meals: Breakfast and Dinner
Accommodation: Hotel Grand Chancellor
Today we’re heading inland, passing Queenstown, where the unique landscape reflects the history of the region. We’ll continue along the highway where you’ll get to experience the last of the western wilderness, stopping on the way at Nelson Falls for a short rainforest walk. Then we’ll stop at Lake St. Clair to take in the view. Now we’re off to Hobart where we’ll celebrate with our travelling companions at a dinner to mark the end of a memorable journey.
Day 7: Farewell from Hobart
Meals: Breakfast
After breakfast it’s time to say farewell to your new friends as your Inspiring Journey comes to an end.

Run of house rooms are used at all hotels featured in this brochure unless otherwise specified. A twin room generally means a room with two single beds but some hotels may offer one double bed or include a bunk bed within the room. We cannot guarantee the room configuration in advance. In Triple share rooms the third bed may be a ‘foldaway’, ‘sofa bed’ or ‘roll away’ which can sometimes restrict the amount of available space in the room. Quad share rooms are unavailable and clients are required to book two twin rooms. Inter-connecting rooms are available on request and subject to availability. Generally hotel rooms will be available from 3pm and are to be vacated by 10am, irrespective of your arrival or departure times. Should you wish your room to be available prior to 3pm on your first day of arrival or available after 10am the day you depart it may be possible to reserve the room at the time of booking for the cost of an extra night.
Solo Travellers
If you are travelling alone on a First Choice or Best Buys Guided Holiday and do not wish to pay the single supplement, AAT Kings will ensure that you share a room with a person of the same gender. If we fail to match you, we’ll provide the single room at no extra cost. Please request at time of booking. Does not apply to Small Group Tours and Independent Tours.
