Itinerary
Day 1 : Washington DC
Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Washington DC. On arrival in Washington make your own way to your downtown hotel. The remainder of the day is free to relax.
Day 2 : Washington DC
Washington D.C. is a large city with many attractions so there is plenty to explore. Highlights include the White House, the Capitol Building, the Smithsonian Institution and the many monuments and memorials along Washington Mall.
Day 3 : Annapolis

The day is yours to explore Annapolis. You can walk around the Naval Academy, take a cycle tour of the city, enjoy a delicious meal in one of the many waterfront restaurants or explore the city's rich heritage of old buildings; the Banneker-Douglas Museum is a particular highlight.
Day 5 : Virginia Beach
Drive south along the banks of Chesapeake Bay to Virginia Beach. This is a delightful drive past pretty coastal villages. Be sure to stop en route to sample one of the great fish restaurants along the bay.
Day 6 : Williamsburg
Drive this morning from Virginia Beach to colonial Williamsburg. The remainder of the day is free to step back in time as you explore this historic city with its grand public buildings and pretty gardens. You may also wish to visit the nearby colonial settlement of Jamestown and the site of the 1783 Battle of Yorktown.
Day 7 : Williamsburg
Enjoy a full day stepping back in time in colonial Williamsburg. This interesting city has been well restored and offers an atmospheric insight into life in Colonial America.
Day 8 : Charlottesville
Today your drive takes you through the heart of Virginia's farmland country, past Lake Monticello, to the university city of Charlottesville. You will have time this afternoon to take a stroll and begin to explore the charming surroundings.
Day 9 : Charlottesville
Enjoy a full day exploring the beautiful buildings and leafy squares of Charlottesville. The area posses some of the finest examples of early American architecture in the state, including Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's spectacular mountaintop home.

Superb treatment
The selected accommodation was excellent; the local guides provided for us were knowledgeable, interesting and very helpful; the transport arrangements were impeccable (we travelled south to north).
We were in Vietnam at the time Covid 19 was showing itself as a pandemic and Audley moved very quickly to bring us back a few days early to avoid being caught by a local lockdown (the Vietnamese government locked down the country 6 hours after we flew out).
Audley's follow-up treatment was excellent and that included a willingness to credit us with the value of the unused portion of the holiday if our insurance company refused to pay out for curtailment. It did not prove necessary but that in no way detracts from Audley's attitude.

Our trip to Atlantic Canada will be our third booked through Audley. Prior to this we used Audley for Costa Rica and New Zealand. Frankly, I would not consider anyone else for the type of trips we make. These often involve off the beaten track, something different, experience or location, local accommodation and a high degree of personalisation needed to suit our interests. The fact one is able to talk to country specialists is key to ensuring a trip that will exceed expectations because they listen to what your needs are.
Very rare for anything to complain about but if there is, it is always followed up and dealt with swiftly.
The pandemic has created so may difficulties for travel companies but specifically, Audley have truly excelled in the way they handled a refund credit note for a major trip booked to S America last Spring. Understanding and empathy gives one total reassurance that you are dealing with a company that really cares about its customers.
With all the quality that you get, the price you pay is no more than elsewhere. Yes an exotic trip can be expensive but it can suit all budgets and whatever the grade of accommodation, you can be sure Audley will maintain the same high standards. I would say terrific value.
We have dealt with many Audley specialists over the years but I would single out Lauren and Chloe who managed our major disappointment at not being able to travel to S America due to Covid so well. Faultless. Thank you so much for all you have done. In times of uncertainty, it is more important than ever to travel with trustworthy companies. Audley Travel are the industry masters in my view.
