Overview

Short Description

A country by name, but a continent in scale, India in one word is diversity. To guide you where to go when faced with such rich variety, our India specialists use the experience of their own travels to create your tailor-made holiday to India.

The north is banded by the snow-crowned peaks of the Himalaya. Moving south, you pass through Rajasthan, a microcosm of India with its forts, palaces and temples, as well as the Taj Mahal. Central India shelters leopards, elephants and the Bengal tiger. In India’s northeast corner, Calcutta still exudes its colonial heritage in a landscape of Bengali mansions and neo-Gothic architecture. West-coast Mumbai is an improbable proposition — a hub of manufacturing where you can wander among Art Deco architecture or through a teeming bazaar. Down in India’s south, cruising Kerala’s backwaters on a converted rice barge is a suitably relaxed way to embrace this region’s laid-back approach to life.

Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Delhi.

Day 2 : Delhi

Arrive in Delhi where you'll be met by an Audley representative and introduced to your private driver who will stay with you for the remainder of your trip. They will transfer you to your homestay where the remainder of the afternoon is at your leisure. You might like to take a walk from your hotel to the nearby shops and markets. Your hosts can suggest somewhere interesting for dinner - there are a number of local speciality restaurants.

Day 3 : Shimla

An early start this morning to drive to the train station for your journey into the hills. Firstly, catch the train which travels north to Kalka, taking four hours. At noon, you'll arrive in Kalka and be met by your guide to help you connect with the well-known 'toy train'. Your guide accompanies you on the toy train which winds its way for five hours through 107 tunnels and numerous mountains to get to Shimla. It's a long day but the views can be beautiful on a clear day.On arrival at the station your guide will help you to meet your driver to drive you to your hotel for the evening.

Day 4 : Shimla

The Viceregal Lodge is also significant in British history and is fascinating to look around. Relax this afternoon, wander at your own pace or head to Wildflower Hall to visit the gardens and enjoy a cup of tea.

Day 5 : Pragpur

Drive five hours to Pragpur this morning, continuing your journey north. You might be able to see the snow-capped Himalaya along the way. You can easily explore Pragpur on foot by yourselves - it's a small village, but a great way to see rural life in the Himalayan foothills.

Day 6 : Dharamshala

Continue further north, driving two hours higher in altitude today up to Dharamshala and McLeodganj, home to the Dalai Lama. This busy hill town is home to a huge Tibetan community which makes it feel like a different country. Witness the incredible kitchens which churn out thousands of meals each day for free. After dinner and some time to relax, head back to the temple with your local guide to see the putting to bed ceremony of the holy book.

Day 10 : Haridwar

As the sun sets, head to the river ghats to be a part of the atmospheric aarti ceremony.

Day 11 : Haridwar

We were looking for a special holiday to celebrate my wife's birthday and bumped into Audley Travel early 2023 at the Travel Show in Olympia. We gave their south east Asia specialist, Dan Pullen, a list of ideas which after several iterations resulted in an outline travel plan involving four countries over 24 days.
We were very impressed with the professionalism of the company, their knowledge of the area and the proposed travel plan. The resulting holiday proved to be very successful, extremely well organised and managed at a country level by very experienced and competent guides and drivers.

We had the most incredible two weeks in South Africa, organised by Robyn Hutchons. From the very beginning we were so well looked after by Robyn, who was responsive, full of good insider tips for South Africa, and took the time to listen to what we hoped to get out of our holiday. She designed a tailored itinerary that was perfect for us. We felt so well looked after, and it made the whole trip a stress-free experience.

It was very helpful to catch up with Robyn when we got back so we could feedback and make some small suggestions for things we might have tweaked. Would 100% recommend using Audley, worth every penny and we will definitely be using them in future.

Our holiday was quite complex with multiple greetings and pickup with representatives, drivers and guides. Everything went without a hitch. Everything was where we expected it to be and linked up perfectly.
The choice of accommodation was so well planned. We stayed in 8 different locations. Each one was superb and offered something different to the ones before.
The tours were well thought out and offered more than just sightseeing. They also gave us a taste of the culture of India.
Excellent.

Had a wonderful trip to Vietnam, Cambodia and Bangkok. Jack Tydeman was our agent and he was excellent; listened to our needs/wants, put together a really detailed itinerary and everything went completely smoothly. We would've changed a couple things but 95% of our trip was perfect! Jack followed up when we returned home and took notes of a couple of areas that we would have changed. I would definitely recommend Audley!

A fabulous two week trip to Thailand designed and organised by Suzi Smith from Audley more than lived up to expectations. Our only regret in hindsight was not extending the planned time so we could have spent longer in the Chaing Mai Bush Camp which was just awesome. Special mention needs to go to Spooky, our Audley guide in Bangkok. If you are lucky enough for her to be looking after you then you know you will have a wonderful time. The advantage of having Audley Travel as your agent is that you know you have the best professionals on your team. I can truly recommend them.

Spoke to 2 different consultants about awesome trip to Mexico. Both promised to provide quotes within a week. I never heard from either of them again. I've no idea why the didn't want me as a customer but whatever the reason their approach was highly unprofessional and very bad manners. If younhaventhe choice avoid them at all costs.
