Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Moshi Town

This is where the adventure begins. You'll be collected from Kilimanjaro airport and transferred to Springlands Hotel located in Moshi Town, close to the foothills of Mt Kilimanjaro. This trip is run by a local operator rather than Contiki, so here you'll meet your Lo...

Day 2: Moshi Town to Mandara Huts via Marangu

We'll set off from The National Park Gate (1,830 m.) at the edge of Marangu, a charming village with a swathe of small coffee and banana plantations. After completing the entrance formalities, we'll climb up through an leafy and unspoilt forest to reach the clearing c...

Day 3: Mandara Huts to Horombo

The first part of the today's 4-6 hour walk is a steep ascent through the forest, but the path soon opens out into grassy moorland. If we're lucky, we'll get a good view of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks from here. We'll climb steadily through the moorlands, surrounded by gia...

Day 4: Horombo Huts to Kibo Hut

We climb very gradually towards the lunar desert of the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The terrain changes to scree and there is a palpable sense of high altitude wilderness. We usually reach Kibo Hut (4,700 m.) at the bottom of the crater wall by midday. Kibo is a ...

Day 5: Kibo Hut to Horombo Huts via Gillman's Point

Rise and shine! We're starting our ascent this morning by torchlight at about 1AM, aiming to be up at Gillman’s Point by sunrise. The initial climb is steep over loose volcanic scree, but there are some well-graded zig-zags and a slow but steady pace will have us up t...

Day 6: Horombo to Moshi Town

We retrace our steps with a relaxed 5-6 hour walk through moorlands to Mandara Hut then through the forest back to the National Park Gate. The greenness and lushness of the forest makes a striking contrast to our summit day yesterday, showing just how varied the scene...

Day 7: Depart Moshi Town

It may be the end of the trip, but your memories (and calf muscles) will be forever changed! Say goodbye to your trip-mates and give yourself a huge pat on the back. The morning transfer takes you to Kilimanjaro International Airport for a final goodbye.

We’re firm believers that life’s greatest experiences are made better by the people you share them with. That’s why Contiki invented group travel for young people in 1962 and we’ve spent the past 53 years perfecting it. You’ll explore amazing destinations with a group of 18-35 year olds from around the world who share your passion for adventure, good times and creating memories that define what it is to be young, wild and free.

No two travellers are the same and we know that, which is why we offer eight unique ways to explore the world. We have a number of options to choose from to create a vacation that’s perfect for you, from budget to accommodation style.

We're all about exploring the world with like-minded people, which is why we only run trips for 18-35 year olds, to celebrate being young, spirited and curious. You can expect to join a group of 18-53 awesome people from around the world on our Europe, Australia, North America and New Zealand trips, and in Asia and Latin America it's all about small group adventures with up to 25 travellers. Don't worry if you're not traveling as a couple or with a friend from home – though there are plenty of pairs, 50% of our travellers set off solo, meaning you'll have a ton of opportunities to make new friends.

With over 270 trips around the world and plenty of departure dates to work into your schedule, you'll never be short of options on where to go for your next great adventure.
