Day 1 : ARRIVE IN ROME, ITALY.

ARRIVE IN ROME, ITALY. Check into your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to explore this ancient capital. This evening, meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers.

    Day 2 : ROME.

ROME. The “Eternal City” is steeped in history, vibrantly alive and exciting, and absolutely unique! Included sightseeing with a Local Guide starts with St. Peter’s Square and Basilica. Other highlights are the iconic Colosseum, the largest amphitheater ever built and Circus Maximus. An optional visit is available to the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, world famous for Michelangelo’s impressive fresco of The Last Judgment. (B)

    Day 3 : ROME–ORVIETO–SIENA.

ROME–ORVIETO–SIENA. Journey to charming Orvieto in the Umbria region to visit its black basalt and yellow limestone CATHEDRAL, an excellent example of Italian Gothic architecture. Reach Siena, with time to visit this jewel of Tuscany. Sit in one of the cafés surrounding the Piazza del Campo and admire one of Italy’s most unique squares, famed all over the world for its medieval-style Palio horse race. (B,D)

    Day 4 : SIENA–SAN GIMIGNANO–GREVE–M...

SIENA–SAN GIMIGNANO–GREVE–MONTECATINI. Arrive in San Gimignano and discover one of Tuscany’s greatest attractions. Its medieval squares, town walls, streets, alleyways, and 14 towers are truly unique. Next, head into the very heart of the Chianti vineyards, where Chianti Classico wines are produced. Stop in Greve for a WINE TASTING at the Vicchiomaggio wine estate. Arrive in Montecatini in time to join the optional Tuscan dinner outing. (B)

    Day 5 : MONTECATINI. EXCURSION TO F...

MONTECATINI. EXCURSION TO FLORENCE. This Renaissance gem and city of the Medicis will keep you enthralled the entire day. Wander at leisure and admire the city’s timeless beauty. Don’t miss out on the included walking tour with a Local Guide, which features most of the city highlights. You will see Piazza Santa Croce; beautiful Piazza Signoria; Palazzo Vecchio and its courtyard; Loggia dei Lanzi; and, to top it all, Piazza del Duomo and its cathedral with the Giotto Campanile, and the magnificent East Door of the Baptistry, known as the “Gate of Paradise.” (B,D)

    Day 6 : MONTECATINI–PISA–VENICE AREA.

MONTECATINI–PISA–VENICE AREA. This morning, drive to Pisa and enjoy a mini-train ride to see its SQUARE OF MIRACLES and the amazing Leaning Tower—180 feet high and no less than 16 feet out of the perpendicular. Head across the wooded Apennine hills into the farmlands of the Po Valley to the Venice area. (B)

    Day 7 : VENICE AREA.

VENICE AREA. Venice is more like a marvelous film set than a real-life city, with its crisscrossing canals, gondolas and water buses, arched bridges, palaces, and piazzas. Your included orientation starts with a BOAT RIDE to St. Mark’s Square and is followed by time at leisure and a chance to watch Venetian GLASSBLOWERS fashion their delicate works of art as they did centuries ago. Don’t miss out on the optional gondola trip, gliding along the picturesque canals with a local troubadour to serenade you. (B,D)

    Day 8 : VENICE AREA–ASSISI–ROME.

VENICE AREA–ASSISI–ROME. Travel across the Po Delta, then into the green Apennines to Umbria. Stop in medieval Assisi, where St. Francis was born in 1182. Visit the world-famous BASILICA with its beautiful frescoes by Giotto, then head for Rome. (B)

    Day 9 : ROME.

ROME. Your vacation ends with breakfast this morning. (B)

Great trip for first time visitors. It was nice not having to worry about transportation and accommodations. Still had a lot of free time to set our own pace and be as adventurous as we wanted.

This was our first trip to Europe. My husband and I travelled with one other couple. Our trip was virtually flawless. The tour director/bus driver were superb. Our hotels were outstanding. The other people on the trip were delightful. I would definitely book a Cosmos trip again. Our luggage/transfers etc. were handled with expertise. We went on every excursion that was available to us and we were happy we did. The only negative I would say would be the two dinners with our group that was at the hotel we were staying at. The were just ok - but the company was better so that was a plus. We had a rainy bunch of days but the tours made it great!

This was my first trip to Italy and I must say the organized tour provided by COSMOS completely exceeded my expectations. From our personal tour guide, Silvio, who was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and very approachable to the clean new motor coach and our professional driver Antonio, the experience was great start to finish. I am so glad we did this, we met 30 new people that were from all over the world, it was casual, yet jam packed with information. If we ever tried to do this on our own there would be no way in the world we could have seen all things that we saw! From the statue of David, to Orieveto, to Pisa, and all of Rome, the best was Venice, at night. The weather was great in the spring and we got there just before the cruise ships arrived so it wasn't completely crowded. Our tourgroup was one of the silliest, funnest, and generally got along so that made it even more comfortable.
The only thing I can say negative about the trip was some of the hotels (Florence/Venice) were not right in the heart of the cities, but I realize that's the price you pay for 'budget' travel. Still the bus was right there when we were ready to go. Some of the side trips are geared to shopping (Leather shop and glass blowing) but we had the freedom to move around and try things on our own as well. I am planning to go again to some other cities in the near future and you can bet I will be choosing Cosmos again. I made a scrapbook of all the photos and memories! Good times.
