Short Description

This South Africa tour—from the fascinating cities to the enthralling game drives and breathtaking scenery—is sure to offer you an experience of a lifetime. Start in Cape Town, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Ride a cable car to the top of iconic Table Mountain (weather permitting) for stunning views over the city and venture outside the city to see a colony of African penguins and beautiful Cape Point Nature Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its rich and unique flora. You’ll also visit Bo-Kaap, a lively area founded by former slaves. Here visit a local family home to learn more about their culture and partake in a Cape Malay cooking class—a Globus exclusive!

Small groups are usually defined as between 10 and 24 travelers, often less. If you're the kind of person who enjoys more intimate experiences and personal service this is a good choice. All else being equal you will pay a premium for this style vs a larger group tour.

Itinerary

DAY 1: Arrive in Cape Town, South Africa

Welcome to South Africa! Arrive late this evening, check in to your hotel, and rest as you prepare for a great adventure.

DAY 2: Cape Town. Cape Peninsula Excursion

Today, enjoy a full day of sightseeing, starting with an orientation tour of Cape Town. Then, take a scenic drive south through the fishing village of Hout Bay before ascending Chapman’s Peak Drive, one of the most spectacular drives in the world and which skirts the rocky coastline. Continue on to CAPE POINT NATURE RESERVE. Stop at the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point, the southwesternmost point of the African continent, for incredible panoramic views. Continue on to Simon’s Town and Boulders Beach, where you will visit a COLONY OF ENDANGERED AFRICAN PENGUINS, known for the unique sound they make. Return to Cape Town and enjoy the evening at your leisure. This evening, join your traveling companions for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 3: Cape Town

This morning, visit the BO-KAAP MUSEUM, followed by a fascinating Globus Local Favorite WALKING TOUR through Bo-Kaap, also known as the Malay Quarter. Founded by former slaves in the 1750s, this lively area is a true melting pot of cultures. The historic and colorful houses, ranging from lime-green and pink to orange, reflect Dutch and British architecture, and the area has been declared a national monument. Afterward, visit the home of a local family for a Globus Local Favorite MALAY COOKING CLASS. Learn how to mix masala, fold samoosas, and about the delicate flavors of Cape Malay curry before sitting down for a traditional Malay meal. Then, visit Table Mountain and take a CABLE-CAR RIDE to the top (weather permitting) for stunning views of the city and surrounding area. The remainder of the day is at your leisure. (Breakfast, Lunch)

DAY 4: Cape Town

Enjoy a full day at leisure for your own discoveries. Perhaps simply explore the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, take an excursion to the stunning Cape winelands for wine tasting, or cruise to infamous Robben Island, where Nelson Madela spent 18 of his 27 years in prison, for a guided tour. Your Tour Director will have suggestions to help you make the most of this beautiful city. (Breakfast)

DAY 5: Cape Town-Kapama Private Game Reserve, Greater Kruger National Park

Today, leave beautiful Cape Town behind and fly to KAPAMA PRIVATE GAME RESERVE, part of Greater Kruger National Park, to begin your safari adventure! The Kruger area is famous for its abundance of wildlife and you will have a great chance of seeing the “Big 5”—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo. Enjoy your first GAME DRIVE this afternoon. Your skilled tracker and professional ranger work together as a team so you can learn more about the ecosystem as you view wildlife up close. Return to your lodge for dinner. (Breakfast, Dinner)

Days 6-7: Kapama Private Game Reserve

Rise between 5 am and 5:30 am for coffee and tea before your EARLY MORNING GAME DRIVE. If the timing is right, you might spot some of the big cats after a night of hunting. Other animals you may see include kudu, impala, giraffe, hippo, cheetah, spotted hyena, wildebeest, and more. Great bird watching is also possible—some 350 species having been recorded in the area. Return for breakfast mid-morning, followed by time to relax and enjoy the lodge and its surroundings. Perhaps take a swim in the pool, visit the wellness center for one of the many spa treatments on offer, or simply sit back and watch the animals pass by. You may even choose to join your ranger for a BUSH WALK to learn more about the native flora and how to identify animals by their footprints, while observing them from a safe distance. Optional excursions include the nearby Hoedspruit Center for Endangered Species, where you can see a number of rehabilitated animals or get up close to a herd of elephants so you can touch and feed them. On one of the days you may even choose to skip a game drive for a memorable hour-long elephant-back safari through the bush! In the mid-afternoon, tea will be served prior to your AFTERNOON GAME DRIVE. Step out of your safari vehicle to stretch your legs and watch as the sun sets over the Drakensberg Mountains. As darkness descends, your tracker will bring out a spotlight to help you spot nocturnal animals—if you are lucky, maybe even a leopard! Return to your lodge in time to freshen up before dinner. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner daily)

DAY 8: Kapama Private Game Reserve-Johannesburg

Enjoy one last GAME DRIVE this morning before transferring to the airport for your flight to Johannesburg. The remainder of the day is at your leisure. (Breakfast)

DAY 9: Johannesburg

Today’s sightseeing starts with an enriching visit to Globus Local Favorite SOWETO (South Western Township), the largest township in the country. Soweto is a part of South Africa’s turbulent past, but this multicultural area is also a reflection of today and hope for tomorrow. Along the way, see the homes of two Nobel Peace Prize winners: Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. You will also see the Hector Pieterson Memorial, dedicated to the 12-year-old boy killed by police during a demonstration in 1976. This led to the Soweto Uprising, an important event in the long struggle to end apartheid some 14 years later. Next, visit the unforgettable APARTHEID MUSEUM. Here you will learn about the founding of South Africa before delving into the apartheid era. Using , video, and print, the museum takes you on an extraordinary journey through the apartheid years to the 1994 democratic elections that named Nelson Mandela president. (Breakfast, Lunch)

DAY 10: Johannesburg-Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Today, leave South Africa and fly north to Zimbabwe. This evening, enjoy a CRUISE on the Zambezi River, which affords you a great opportunity to photograph wildlife and a spectacular African sunset. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 11: Victoria Falls

Today, visit mighty VICTORIA FALLS for an awe-inspiring experience. Enjoy a GUIDED WALK, where you will learn the history of the falls and hear fascinating details about the surrounding flora and fauna. This evening, your Tour Director hosts a special farewell dinner. (Breakfast, Dinner)

NOTE:

During the dry season (September-December) and during particularly dry years, water flow to Victoria Falls may be low.

DAY 12: Victoria Falls-Johannesburg-Homebound Flight

Your tour ends with a flight back to Johannesburg to connect with your homebound flight. Book homebound flights after 5:30 pm. (Breakfast)

We planned a family trip a year in advance and with the Pandemic, this company has been all BUT helpful with a solution or refund on our European trip. Put $5,000 deposit down and maybe got back $1,800 in vouchers to use with them in the future! AND they said our claim was denied because a Pandemic is not covered by the insurance.... funny thing we can’t even get into the countries we planned on going to because of a LOCKDOWN. How is that our fault! This place is a JOKE. DO NOT USE THEM!!!

This company is a RIP OFF. I relocated due to my job, the job was more than 250 miles, I submitted all the necessary paperwork. And guess what? My claim was denied because " I wasn't within the time frame" my trip was for October and I was told "without any notice, that I had to relocate by November ". We "all" now there's a Pandemic going on, and who knows within 2 years if you're going to be able to use a "vochure" in 2 years. It is already stressful enough from the pandemic, lose money and move. When this "PANDEMIC " is OVER, I will NEVER EVER RECOMMEND this company!

Why so Many Negative Reviews ??

Reading this many negative reviews is extremely disappointing in times of crisis. I am not affiliated with the company and I am a travel Agent so I understand both sides. When a client books a trip through an operator like Globus, they pay the deposit, Globus then pays deposits to their suppliers and when crisis like this happen, both parties should refer to the terms and conditions.
It is very easy to just blame a company but if they have already made arrangement on your behalf, how do you think they can process millions of dollars back to the customer when in fact that money is already used months in advance.
Travelers, get real and understand that it is not globus or a travel agent fault. No Travel Agent will give you cash back , it is just impossible given the obligations each business have toward other partners.

I just returned from the Nov. 8th Canyons tour. I have never done a bus tour before but glad I did. It was awesome. Dereck and Yolanda were great and kept us safe with the COVID protocols. Dereck’s knowledge of the area and its history is quite extensive and very informative. The hotels were clean and comfortable with great food. I will definitely book another tour with Globus.

Don't even consider if you need to make changes. I purchased Portugal Tours for 4 of us then...because the price looked good we added 2 more. Because departures were from 2 different airports and 3 couples, 3 deposits were made as 3 couples. One of the couples got married and the female changed her name on her passport. Passport office is slow due to COVID. But as soon as we had new PP No. we tried to update with Globus. Globus told us this would result in a $100 per person supplemental charge for ALL SIX of us. Not just the ONE person who changed. $600 makes no sense.
$100 I can see, but consider deposits - Globus has had our deposits for half a year. Portugal is not yet allowing tourists to enter. Our tour is not for 3 months but IF it cancels I doubt if any consideration will be made for Globus to be sitting on our deposits for 9 months. And then to add a surcharge? On a trip that looks like it won't even fly? Ridiculous!

We just returned from doing the American canyonlands on November 1, 2020.

We were very excited to be on the first US trip since the coronavirus shut down.

We were very impressed with all the safety precautions that Globus took care of. They had HEPA filters on the bus and we were able to socially distance most of the trip. They went above and beyond to make sure that everybody was safe. The hotels and the food were all great, and our bus driver Ed and our tour director Steve were amazing. And we also had a really nice group of people, 28 on the bus. It was so great to get away and see these beautiful places Zion, Bryce, Arches, Capitol reef Park, Dead horse state park and the Grand Canyon.
