Made reservations for us at Grand Polis Hotel in Athens located in seediest area of the city (although hotel and staff were great). The location is the concern as I was robbed in the hotel lobby within moments of arriving. All possessions were stolen by professionals when I was asked to come forward with passport. We looked at videos on cc tv in lobby. Staff was not surprised at the theft and helped us get to the police. GVV has a close business relationship as many, many …or all of the guests were Americans. Shame on you GVV for not placing us in hotels with better protection. I sent a letter to GVV and the Polis Grand for help in submitting a claim to their insurance carrier but never heard anything from either vendor. Shame on each of you. Rethink your travel agency(GVV) and the hotel choice. Common courtesy would dictate streaky a follow up letter or call from you. You had a duty of care for tourists you place while they are in accommodations you arranged. If we had been sightseeing at venues that would have been my responsibility. Extreme disappointment in your service GVV.

A few days before the trip I went to check the flight and what-not. I am a planner and this is our first international trip since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, so I just wanted to be sure things were good to go. Good thing I checked because our flights had been cancelled. I contacted GVV, but due to its emergency 3 day policy, I had to submit a request through the regular (and slower) process and wait on hold for 40 min until I got someone on customer service. I told them the issue and he said he would get back to me. Bit unnerving because we were 4 days out, I had our COVID tests scheduled to be within 72 hours of the flight that just got cancelled, and our cancellation policy only covers for a full credit if it is cancelled 72 hours or more ahead of time. When the next day turned around, we submitted an expedited request (since we were now 3 days away from our trip we qualified), and called and waited on the phone another 4 min just to be sure and follow-up. Long story a bit less long, they were able to shift out entire trip one day earlier so we had the same direct flights at the same time and location. They were also able to keep the tour included with the package and contact the hotel to shift those dates as well. It was not ideal, as we had to scramble to move our tests around, our first day in Iceland was wasted doing work since we originally planned to leave that evening after work than travel the day before, and I had to rearrange some scheduled excursions we had planned, but ultimately GVV is not responsible for IcelandicAir's flights and they got everything squared away within one day. My only gripe from GVV's side in all this is I should not have had to personally investigate the flight days before my trip to see if things were good to go. GVV should have known the flight was cancelled and contacted us immediately with alternative options. It is possible we would have went to the airport only to find out our flight was cancelled or GVV would have contacted us when it was too late to salvage the trip and after our cancellation policy was no longer of use to us. So my primary issue is notice. GVV should be able to keep track of its trips, keep in contact with customers when there are changes, and then have a better (and faster) way of communicating to resolve the issue than having someone wait on hold for 30 min to an hour each time.

The pandemic has hit everyone hard, but especially so those in the travel industry. While there are some bumps to be ironed out, this is our third time using Great Value Vacations (Ireland and Cabo San Lucas before) and we will likely look to use them again. Hopefully if the world is a bit more normal the issues we experienced will no longer be a worry.

I had a frustrating situation coming home from a GVV from Ireland. We ended up paying extra to fly back to NYC at our original flight was canceled.

I happy to report Great Value Vacations reimbursed me in full. All is well that ends well. The trip was amazing and we had a lovely time.

Everything went well until we arrived at the airport at 6:00 am and the girl at the counter told us that we didn't have a ticket to come back home. We tried to call the office and the emergency numbers and it was impossible. They'll open the office until 6:00 pm (we were in Prague) and we didn't know what to do. Finally, we booked a hotel and they called us back and said they'll refund the money for the hotel. that was a month ago and I have not received any response from anyone. I think what you did was really irresponsible and not responding to my e-mails is bad. I have traveled with a lot of agencies and this is the first time that something like that happens to me. BAD!!!
