Day 1 Alice Springs or Yulara
Welcome to the Outback, Australia! If you’re starting your trip in Alice Springs, an included shuttle will pick you up and transfer you to Yulara - please see Important Notes for pick up time and location. Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 4 pm at your hotel. After, you'll make your way to one of Australia’s most spiritually significant and iconic sites – Uluru. You'll enjoy the view from a prime viewing location as the sun sets over the epic sandstone monolith. Watching the incredible landscape shift in colour is a truly unforgettable sight. Tonight, make sure to look up, as this is one of the best spots to stargaze in the country.
Day 2 Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park
Start the day in one of the best ways – by watching a spectacular sunrise over Uluru. After breakfast, set off on the Kuniya Walk with your leader as the sun climbs over the landscape and walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole with a First Nations guide. Your guide will explain what makes this waterhole sacred while sharing stories of the incredible landscape and its connection to the Anangu people. After, stop by the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre to continue immersing yourself in First Nations culture. This afternoon, head out to Kata Tjuta (formerly known as 'The Olgas') – a towering collection of 36 domed rock formations. These rust-coloured beauties are one of Australia’s most impressive sights. Embark on Walpa Gorge walk, which takes you between two of the stunning, red-domed rock formations that make up Kata Tjuta. On one side of the gorge, Mount Olga stands proudly, towering above the track below, giving you a real sense of just how incredible this place is. Tonight, you’ll head to the Kata Tjuta sunset area to watch the nightly display of reds, yellows, browns, greens and oranges.
Day 3 Uluru - Watarrka National Park
This morning, you’ll again rise nice and early for a light brekkie, before heading out for a sunrise walk along Uluru’s base. Walk the entire circuit of this natural wonder as you watch the land come alive in the sunlight. Then, drive to Watarrka National Park, stopping for an included lunch along the way. When you arrive, take part in a First Nations cultural experience – where you’ll learn about bush tucker food (including the Witchetty Grub), bush medicine and the history of dot painting from local First Nations guides. Tonight, you have a free evening to sit back and relax, stargaze or swap stories with your fellow travellers.
Day 4 Kings Canyon - Alice Springs
Enjoy a bushman’s style buffet breakfast this morning at Kings Creek Station. After breakfast, spend the morning exploring the rugged landscape of Kings Canyon and enjoy the 3-hour Rim Walk up and across the famous Kings Canyon plateau, from the sandstone domes of the 'Lost City' to the oasis of the 'Garden of Eden'. You’ll walk across the red rock cliffs that protrude from the land and take in views of the palm forest below. You’ll stop along the way for an included lunch. This afternoon, drive to Alice Springs, where you’ll spend the night.
Day 5 Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park - Alice Springs
Today after breakfast, you’ll hit the road for Standley Chasm to explore the towering red walls on foot. Next, hit the Ghostgum Walk to soak in the views across the rugged Ormiston Gorge. After lunch as a group, you’ll get a chance to relax by Ellery Creek Big Hole – a tranquil waterhole that cuts through one of the gorges and a popular Outback swimming spot. The last site of today’s adventure is Simpsons Gap, where you might be lucky to spot cute rock wallabies during a short walk through the countryside. Tonight, you might like to get your group together for a farewell dinner and another spot of stargazing after sunset.
Day 6 Alice Springs
There are no activities planned for today, so you’re free to depart at any time after checking out. If you’d like to stay in Alice Springs for longer, just speak to your booking agent.

Sardines in a can
If any of us had been physically inflexible or overweight we could not have coped with the sleeping arrangements . It is impossible to sit on the top bunk and even turning over in bed requires considerable planning .
An adventure does not mean cutting back on basic essentials …
In our view there were too many people in too small a space .
Two complete strangers were also asked to sleep together in an extremely small double bed , which meant that one of them decided to sleep on deck or in the living space .
The only redeeming factor was our Skipper who is professional, friendly , informative and skilled .
I would recommend this trip if the numbers were reduced .
I feel totally cheated
Have not even started and not impressed
No help when things go wrong (seriously ill on trip)
Trip 1- I was taken very ill while in Vietnam and had to drop out of the tour. I had no help from the guide- no help with getting to a doctor (I don't speak Vietnamese and was too ill to get out of bed anyway), he didn't even assist with arranging a hotel room.
Trip 2- I've had to cancel an upcoming (2024) trip, but haven't received the refund despite phoning the customer service line several times. The people I talk to are nice, but don't seem to be able to actually get anything done. They just suggest waiting a bit longer- not sure how long they think is acceptable to hang on to someone's money really.
Check for other companies offtering the same trip
Once I had paid for my trips, it was very difficult to get in touch with Intrepid to ask a question.
During the trips, several times I was told something one day only to have the info change without any good reason. The guides need proper training about dealing with the heat. Some of use suffered from dehydration and heat stroke and the guides were quite flippant about it. I was told that the guides would not leave anyone behind, but it happened several times.
There was one guide (a trainee) who really took some of the pleasure out of my cycle tour. She spoke to me with a tone used for a child. This tone and her attitude to me almost bordered on harassment.
I went on a third cycling tour with a different company after my 2 with Intrepid and it was much better than my experience with Intrepid.
As the demand for ebikes rises, tour companies such as Intrepid need to increase their fleet of ebikes. They also don’t need to charge the huge amount to rent these ebikes. We only want to rent them, not buy them. As the cost of ebikes comes down, if should reflect in the rental price.

AUSTRALIA LEADERS All group trips are accompanied by a group leader. In Australia your group leader is often also your driver, taking you from start to finish. The aim of the group leader is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. Your leader will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, as well as recommend great local eating venues. They will also introduce you to our local friends along the way. Please be aware they will be juggling many things on your tour and on some days may have less time to spend with you. But they will always be working hard to ensure you and your group have a fantastic time exploring Australia!
