Somewhere between the beer commercials and the Kim Kardashian and Katie Couric-Bryant Gumbel send-ups during the Super Bowl, you might have noticed a nicely done promo ad for one of our favorite countries, Ecuador.
In just a half minute, the ad -- called "All You Need Is Ecuador" -- summed up the essence of this remarkable South American country: "All in one place. So close."
It's true: Ecuador has the Andes, the Amazon, the Pacific coast, and the incomparable Galapagos Islands (though admittedly, the Galapagos are about 800 miles from the mainland). Not to mention Spanish-era colonial cities and great shopping for textiles and handicrafts. (Did you know the Panama hat originated in Ecuador?)
As you can read here on our Ecuador destination page, the Amazon rainforest, the snow-capped Andean peaks, the tropical ocean coastline, and culturally rich cities like Quito and Cuenca are all remarkably close by -- while nature's laboratory, the Galapagos, looms enticingly out in the ocean.
