Why Did We Change Our Name?

We’re happy to announce Stride Travel has changed its name to Travelstride. Our website address is now www.travelstride.com. Amazing, right? Kind of underwhelming? Wondering why we went through the effort (and its more substantial than you might think)?

We chose Travelstride as the new name as it better represents Stride’s expanded mission and core value proposition to travelers.

Our mission is:

To foster a community connecting world travelers with wonderful places, people and experiences.

We have always aimed to do this, but as a small, resource-constrained team, we initially focused on a smaller piece of that mission. We’re ready to begin this next phase and start actively building and cultivating our travel community and offer a wider range of travel experiences.

Why do we care so much about community and travel?

We think it creates an enormous amount of good. For individuals and society. Simply put, when more people travel more often, interact with new cultures and places, they become happier, wiser, more compassionate individuals, and better global citizens.

We see the purpose of Travelstride as:

To bring wonder, joy, learning, and connection through more frequent and more vibrant experiential travel.

This inspires us, and we want a name that helps us achieve our purpose.

Names are powerful. They are symbols and represent the company when we aren’t there to explain who we are, what we do, and why we do it. Names evoke concepts and feelings - intended or unintended.

The value of a name for a company or a product is to briefly convey some key aspects of what the brand means and to make it easy for people to remember so they can search for it and share it with others.

For startups, having a name that gives a clear sense of what the company is about is important. It aligns our team, our users, and our partners around who we are and what we are trying to accomplish.

Our new name Travelstride, though composed of the same two words as our original name, we believe does a better job of this. Subtle, perhaps, but the order and making it one word does change the implied meaning, and feeling, significantly different, and closer to what we do.

We chose ‘Stride’ because of its active movement, confidence, and also sense of flexibility and personalization. ‘Travelstride’ suggests a finding of your personal style of travel, that enables you to explore confidently and actively.

A company is much more than its name. But, as one of our investors, James Currier of NFX says:

“Having a great name doesn’t ensure success. But it can have a profound impact. It’s like a rudder on a boat, quietly steering your company’s direction.”

We’re confident this name adjustment will help us align towards our mission, values and vision, to better serve our purpose.

We are not there yet, but our 10 year vision is to become:

The most engaged global experiential travel community, where people of all stripes find, share, and book wonderful trips.

We hope you enjoy being part of that journey as much as we do.
