Style Style Small Group Tour Small groups are usually defined as between 10 and 24 travelers, often less. If you're the kind of person who enjoys more intimate experiences and personal service this is a good choice. All else being equal you will pay a premium for this style vs a larger group tour.
Private Guided Private tours give you the undivided attention of a guide, and often involve special access to sites and unique experiences not available to larger groups. This is a great option for families, couples, and small friend groups. Expect to pay a bit more for the extra service.
Self Guided Tour A travel company plans your itinerary and arranges all the logistics including lodging, local activities, and transportantion. You have the flexibility of a solo trip while still getting the convience and time savings of expert planning. Get 90% of the benefits of a tour, without a guide.
Group Tour Groups are between 25-60 people, typically ~30-40. Usually there will be many opportunities to split off and enjoy meals and excursions in smaller groups. This is the most economical way to travel, saving up to 40% versus booking the same itinerary yourself.
River Cruise These vessels are smaller than most ocean cruisers, limiting which amenties are available. Passenger counts can vary. One of the biggest advantages of a river cruise is the ability to dock at smaller ports and local villages.
Small Ship Cruise Small ship cruises usually have a max passenger count of 500. The primary purpose of these trips is to spend time off the vessel in local ports (e.g. Mediterranean) or experiencing nature (e.g Galapagos or Antarctica). Cabins can vary from budget to luxury.
Large Ship Cruise This is the "floating city" experience, with multiple ways to enjoy your vacation aboard the ship as much as on land. Ships are multiple floors, provide several activities, culinary, and shopping options. They often make fewer stops and have less time available for shore excursions.
Retreats Similar to a self guided tour but staying in one location only with activities and day outings included as a part of the stay.

Excellent wildlife viewing and outstanding accommodation make this trip stand
out from the crowd. The bushcamp accommodation was especially good. Where
else can you lounge in your bath watching elephants and other wildlife? The
camps are laid out to offer absolute privacy when in your accommodation so
it feels like your own private paradise. All of the staff work really hard to
provide excellent service from 5am to late at night.
Seeing a pack of wild dogs, including 11 pups, at their kill. We have spent
many an hour on previous trips trying to find these elusive animals so it was
amazing to see them at such close quarters. Spotting a leopard and her young
feeding on a Kudo on the final game drive.

Kelvin was exceptionally good. He was not only knowledgeable and passionate
about wildlife, but he was also very personable. I must also praise the
bushcamp managers and trainee guides who all supported Kelvin and helped to
make this such a memorable experience.

You really do need to pack light as the laundry service is quick and
efficient and available everywhere. You also need to be aware of the tsetse
flies which can be quite a pest.

All of the group had been on safaris previously but all agreed that this trip
was far superior to any of the others. This was due mainly to the
accommodation and the exceptional level of service provided which we felt
fully justifies the cost. Aside from the trip notes there were a few
unexpected treats.I won’t ruin the surprise element by saying what they
were, but they also lifted this trip beyond the ordinary.

We have worked on several wildlife conservation expeditions in remote parts
of Africa wild camping, and have experienced close encounters with a range of
wildlife. We have resisted safari trips, particularly of the 'luxurious'
variety.........until now. In summary, this trip has utterly changed our
minds. It was superb in every way!
Too many, but here are a couple:
1. Adult elephants coralling and protecting their youngsters in close
proximity to two wild dogs on the lookout for their leader to return from a
lone chase and kill. When the third dog returned, blood-stained, we
subsequently followed the three dogs and witnessed them feeding on the
carcass of an impala.

2. On the last morning, watching 200+ buffalo sharing a shallow lagoon with
200+ fishing pelicans and some storks. Even our guide, Kelvin, in seven years
working in South Luangwa, had never witnessed such a rare scene.

Our leaders, James & Kelvin, were local Zambians. They were professional,
unbelievably knowledgeable about EVERYTHING they saw, expert communicators,
sensitive to both the environment and our safety, not to mention having an
infectious sense of humour. Our thanks to them is boundless.

Travel light - we went hand luggage only and never regretted it. There's a
free and efficient laundry service in all the camps we stayed in - Mfuwe,
Bilimungwe & Chindeni.

Taking your own water bottle is unnecessary - the company provides half-litre
vacuum water bottles and all the Land Rovers carried top-ups. They also
carried insect repellent sprays to deal with the sometimes pesky tsetse
flies.

We've only mentioned elephants, wild dogs, buffalo and pelicans. However, all
told, we clocked up 144 bird species and 30 mammal & amphibian species.
Almost entirely down to the observational skills of our leaders and spotters.
The camps provided every comfort we could have wished for. Spacious
chalets/tents, extraordinarily plentiful, healthy and nutritious food and
drinks. And the camp hostesses and staff couldn't do enough for you.
THANK YOU ALL!

An amazing trip for anyone who loves the African bush and wildlife while
enjoying creature comforts.

We stayed at Mfuwe, Bilimungwe and Chindeni. All unique. Bilimungwe has own
resident hippo - Harry - who seemed to love being near to the camp and
resided in one of the lagoons where animals come to drink. Chindeni has most
glorious sunrises and sunsets with Chindeni Hills as a backdrop. Amazing
colours.
Too many to mention. We lived in Zambia over 40 years ago and went on
walking safaris in 1977 and 1978 so this was a very emotional experience. It
was wonderful to see how Zambians have gained confidence and are now the
leaders.
Walking through the bush and learning from the extremely knowledgeable guides
about the "smaller" environment.
Seeing elephant groups, lions, leopards, hippos, wild dogs, kudus, impalas,
warthogs, puku, bush bucks, civets, genets, porcupines - plus a multitude of
bird life.
Sunsets and sunrises.
Bush camps where you have to wait for an elephant to stop eating by your
chalet before returning to your room!
Knowledge of all the guides was phenomenal.
Sundowners sitting cooling our feet in river.
Unexpected musical farewell at Bilimungwe.

We didn't have the usual Exodus group leader but were looked after by
Bushcamp Company employees who were all marvellous. Our guides - Kelvin,
James, Thomas and Mulenga - were all very professional and expert. The camp
hosts - Amy, Alex and Lena - made sure everyone was comfortable and well
looked after. All staff were excellent.

Do not take a lot of luggage - laundry service free and very efficient.
Toiletries provided. It was very hot end of September/beginning of October.
Never any need for even a thin fleece. One warning - you would be very lucky
not to get bitten by tsetse flies at this time of year and there were
mosquitos at Mfuwe so take cure as well as prevention ointments, etc. Can
thoroughly recommend the sausage tree fruit potion sold at the spa in Mfuwe
if you do react badly to bites. Water bottles are provided by Bushcamp
Company.

This was a truely amazing and inspirational trip. Small numbers (only 7 of
us) was a huge bonus compared to otherExodus trips where there have been up
to 18 camping.

If you are at all interested in wildlife and Africa but want a unique
experience - this is a fabulous trip to go on.

A most wonderful holiday in all aspects. The wildlife was exceptional, with each encounter whether it was a pride of lions or a group of puku we were able to spend time watching their behaviour without being disturbed by other trucks. It was as if it was our own private park! The walking safaris were really exciting and we learn't many things about the wildlife from many signs. For anyone who is familiar with safaris in Kenya and Tanzania this trip offers a much more intimate experience
So many really but seeing the Wild dogs stood out for me as I have been to many parts of Africa and failed to see them. Another great moments was having sundowners amidst hundreds of Carmine bee eaters who performed beautifully for us.

Stephen our group leader was outstanding in every way. His knowledge of his country and wildlife was second to none. He never failed to find us something inspirational to see. It was great to have him dine with us and share his knowledge about the days viewing.
I must say that all the staff we encountered from the Bushcamp company were exceptional and showed us great hospitality and kindness.

Stock up on sleep before you go if you can as there is so much to see and hear both during the game drives and in the camp at night. Sleep for me was limited as I found every minute exciting.
You will need few clothes as the camps offer a free laundry service. Take lots of memory for you camera and binoculars are a must, because you will find yourself trying to spot something before the guides do!

If you love safaris then this trip is a must. I would love to return after the rains to see a whole different South Luangwa

This is one of the best safari holidays I have done. The excitement of seeing animals on foot surpasses any experience in a vehicle. The accommodation was fabulous and contributed to the whole interaction with the wildlife. The camps were well organised; the food was fab and the staff were all very helpful. It was a joy from start to finish.
One afternoon as I was chilling out on my verandah and a group of elephants arrived in my garden to feed on the monkey bread pods. For about 30 minutes I stood on my bed peeking out at them feeding. They were less than ten metres away. I loved the proximity of it. I could not have moved anyway as they were right on my exit.
I also laughed at the moment on my date of departure when the man who arrived for my wake up call told me "not to leave my lodge as there were 2 lion cubs on my doorstep!"

Steve was very knowledgable on all aspects of wildlife. He was well organised, courteous and responsive to our wishes. He gave us plenty time to take photographs and tried to get good positions for us to view the animals often by anticipating where the animals would move to. It is worth noting the vehicles have built in beanbags to rest your camera on so no need for tripods. Our "spotters" and the Park Guard on the walk were also excellent. They found leopard in a tree, porcupine and great views of lions. They also mixed a mean gin and tonic at sundowners!

Pack lightly. The laundry service is free. Make sure you wear the right muted colours on the walks. Take dollars as this is the most useful currency for taxes and tips. Yellow Fever Certificates were asked for although we were low risk.

For a mixture of adventure and luxury this was a top trip. I arrived very tired after a heavy spell of work. The outside world melts away here. Lying in a plunge pool watching wildlife whilst listening to the soundtrack of "Out of Africa" (what else!) was heaven. It is not a cheap trip but it is a quality one
