I first used intrepid 2016 and was really impressed,so I used them every year until the pandemic hit. I decided to go on their north south Island tour my travel agent told them I am exempt from wearing a mask they said no problem. Airlines want a doctors letter which they are not providing it tells you this in the government guide lines, so I had no choice but to cancel they will only refund me half the money in a voucher my travel agent spoke to them on several occasions but they won't budge. I have emailed and written but they won't reply. I am shocked and upset I really thought this company was different. They told the travel agent they can sell the voucher so no care for loyal customers. I won't be fooled again.

Intrepid doing "bait & switch" with hotels? September 2021

Bored during my lockdown - i reviewed my fantastic trip to Morocco back in late 2019. It was "comfort" style and worked out really well, perfect in every respect, however i cant help feeling Intrepid did some "bait and switch" on the hotels. Although Intrepid does cover themselves by saying "or similar" when advising the hotels you will be staying at, after review i discovered 8 of 11 hotels were switched. And here is the thing - they were ALL switched to cheaper quality hotels. I'm not saying switched hotels were horrible, just saying its beyond "or similar" when majority of hotels were of cheaper standard when i google and compare the hotels. I also understand that not all hotels advertised may be available, but very suspicious 8 of 11 were substituted downward, none upward. If Intrepid are downgrading guests to cheaper hotels they should also pass on some of these $$$$ savings to the guest, maybe a voucher for future trips or perhaps shout a free dinner as compensation. This would provide transparency and result in more guest appreciating this honesty - rather than feeling a bit gouged. It also took 1 star off the rating i really wanted to give Intrepid. I'll will still consider Intrepid for my next trip, but now also looking at other companies that offer "comfort style" trips.
And in comes Intrepid response very promptly, thanks Intrepid. I think you have missed the mark with that "generic" response. I never said I was unhappy with the alternative hotels. I truly loved the trip and could write paragraphs on how enjoyable it was.
I was offering Intrepid constructive ideas and the opportunity to address situation where a customer feels they have been "bait and switched" and not compensated. Instead, Intrepid chose to challenge the way customers should feel, rather than acknowledge events that can cause customer angst.
I cant wait until we can all travel again. Ihave 2 x Intrepid "comfort" trips on my hit list - but if i get "bait & switched" for majority of hotels again ( with zero compensation) - I promise I will be back on Trustpilot to tell others of experience. My 2019 Morocco trip was booked through Flight Centre if it helps to locate me if you NEED.
Good advise from my grandad - you get just as much "free" business from repeat customers and word of mouth vs costly advertising. Never abuse the former.

It is actually funny how Intrepid going on and on about 'helping the community' and doing the right thing and then keeping travellers money when their customers needed it most. Keeping customers money saying its a 'hidden cost' and not being able to even explain what these 'hidden costs' are. is 'helping the community' all about your marketing? You don't mean it! If you mean it, give all our money back. How come you have spent any money on anything when the trip has not even started and it is cancelled months and months in advance. so what are those 'hidden costs'?

I was booked on Intrepid Travel's trip 'Cruise Croatia: Dubrovnik to Split via Zadar' to depart April 2020. My tour was understandably canceled due to Covid. Obviously, I have zero issues with that. The total cost of my trip was $9002 but Intrepid Travel was only willing to partially refund me. They kept $1000 despite the fact that the tour was canceled and the tour I booked was guaranteed to depart. Intrepid said they needed to keep the $1000 for 'unrecoverable costs' yet, if I had kept the full $9002 with them there would have been no 'unrecoverable costs' and I could have used that money toward a future trip with Intrepid. I don't want a refund for my $1000, I just want to use that $1000 toward a future trip with Intrepid but they will not allow it. It's clear that Intrepid Travel is out for profit and, sadly, don't seem to care about their customers or how their customers are financially impacted during a pandemic.

One year after having to cancel our tour to Egypt due to COVID, it's safe to say Intrepid responded horribly compared to other travel brands and companies.

Myself and 4 family members booked a tour with Intrepid and they kept $1000 between the 5 of us. By FAR the most amount of money any company took from us due to circumstances beyond our control (a pandemic meaning we couldn't leave the country).

They insisted that they couldn't provide a line item breakdown of what we were actually paying for because a lot of it wasn't "able to be seen". I fail to see how you could have used $1000 of our money considering the itinerary had already been made.

It's an absolute joke to profit off people in a pandemic, and $1000 for a group of 5 is too much. Will stear clear once we can travel again, that's for sure.

Over the last ten years, I have used Intrepid for international travel however due to COVID this has not been possible. I have been so impressed with the number of trips that Intrepid have developed within the UK but most especially the variety.

I recently went on the Peak District cycling trip which was very well organised and the routes had been thoroughly planned and ridden beforehand. The accommodation was in a perfect location, the bikes were well maintained both before and during the trip and the leader was fantastic who was very quickly able to gauge the fitness of the group.

This trip was awesome. It was a great experience to sleep in a swag each night under the stars or in a tent, hiking through stunning scenery, swimming in gorges, being exposed to plenty of flora and fauna, and just appreciating the wide open spaces of the Kimberley. Don’t expect 4 or 5 star comfort, which is the attraction of the trip - getting back to nature and away from technology and phones and internet, which allows you to soak up your surroundings.
Travelling along the dusty Gibb River road was an experience in itself, and the bus handled the road well. Our guides, Jacob and Marjorie were fantastic, and their food was an absolute delight, exceeding all expectations. They looked after us 24/7 and did a fabulous job narrating along the way, story telling, and lessons in the local flora, fauna and aboriginal culture.
This trip requires some physical activity, which is a welcome break from travelling in the bus.
Although we couldn’t get to Darwin due to COVID, our guides kept us well informed all the way and gave us options for getting home, and made us feel safe. We had to go back to Broome instead of Darwin, however some extra activities were thrown in to compensate this. During these difficult times of COVID, I recommend you expect there may be a need for back up plans in the event of any changes.

We recently had a great trip to Uluru, Kings Canyon (Watarrka) and the West Macdonnell Ranges. Wayne our guide was very experienced and looked after us at every stage. The scenery was spectacular and we were privileged to engage with local Aboriginal people and their culture. Highly recommend Intrepid and this trip.

I have used Intrepid for international travel many times in the past (approx. 13 trips) and have always been satisfied. I appreciate that COVID has turned travel upside down and that Intrepid have not previously focused on Australian trips.

The trip I went on was new to Intrepid (Ningaloo Reef and Pilbara), so I guess that's why there may still be a few bugs to iron out. I still had a great trip and saw some amazing sights, but there is room for improvement.

The guides (Pete, Zac and Kyle) were brilliant and the 4WD bus we travelled in was clean, comfortable, well equipped and safe. Food was great from my perspective, but there were some issues for other people with dietary needs. Having full size mugs would be nice too (especially for non-coffee drinkers). I really liked that there were options for exploring different gorges with different difficulty levels at Karijini (and water shoes were provided).

Originally the route started in Exmouth, went to Karijini, then up to the Burrup peninsula and followed the coast past Onslow back to Exmouth. Due to COVID restrictions, this had to change to Exmouth -Karijini - Exmouth (with stops). I was notified well in advance. I understand this and it is not the fault of Intrepid, but if that original route could be reinstated when it is safe to do so, I think it would make the trip more interesting.

Being from WA, I know long distances are part of the experience here, so I understand that there will be long travel days. It is good if there is a bit more variety where possible. I did appreciate the stops along the way though.

I think the main thing is that the trip was marketed as 'comfort', but based on my past experiences it would be more appropriate to call it 'original'. It is easier to manage people's expectations that way. While the accommodation was adequate, it wasn't luxurious or above average as the comfort category implies.

Particularly at the camp site outside of Karijini, it was good to have access to a flushing toilet and hot shower, but cleanliness could improve. Also, one bathroom had no soap (which is important during COVID). Clean towels would also help. The camp host's interpersonal skills could improve too.

At the station stay (Cheela Plains), it was good but there was only one shower/toilet for all women in the camp site and it was quite a busy site.

We had a stop for afternoon tea at Bullara Station on the way back to Exmouth. The scones were very nice, but I think the service from the station was disappointing. Despite knowing that our group was coming and having the scones prepared, we could not sit in the garden as the café had 'closed', so we had to sit under a tree near sheep manure with a dirty table. Our guide tried to make the best of the situation (i.e. cleaning table, finding chairs), but he shouldn't have had to.

I would also suggest that a whale shark swim (or snorkeling at least) is included in Exmouth, as that is the main reason most people go there. I independently booked a whale shark swim ahead of time, but not everyone could do that and there were no spaces available later.

Overall, I had a great time, met some great people, and explored a unique part of my country that I could not otherwise do on my own.

A trip of a lifetime down the Gibb River road, visiting some of the most beautiful landscapes in Australia. The tour guides where excellent, thank goodness.
As the differences between the advertising from both Intrepid and the third party Kimberly Wild was very disappointing.
The upgrade accomodation (single supplement) is not worth the money. From smelly single beds, sub standard facilites to bug in one of the beds. What is advertised for the Bungle Bungels on both sites was definitely not the case. Drop toilets only, no shower facilities at all for two nights. The lack of shower facilities is not mentioned in any advertising what so ever.
The vehicle aircon had not been cleaned from previous trips, I cleaned the dirt from the filters so at least we could breath clean air. The inner workings of the aircon where coated in the red dirt of the Kimberly. In the new world of travelling a COVID plan would consider this a must after each trip.
On the COVID plan side, for Kimberly Wild not to cross the boarder to Katherine NT, not a Hot Spot, for WA government was appealing. I fully understood not going to Darwin. The trip returned to Broome from Kununurra, and travellers expected to foot the cost of Broome accomodation and flights back to home. My case Brisbane. No refund for the upgrades paid for accomodation not used. I was lucky enough that to save a lot of $’s, i flew from Kununurra to Darwin, no quarantine required, paid for hotel stay, then back home with no quarantine. I organised this through my travel agent, when there was internet of course. I would not recommend this trip to anyone that expects, to at least shower each night, and believe the advertising of what the accomodation/ sleeping arrangements single supplement is. Also, ensure you are in a couple as the discrimination for the single traveler for accomodation is very obvious.
I have sent detailed emails to both Intepid and Kimberly Wild and have not had any reply from either.
ENSURE You Wish to SWIM at all gorges as that is what it is all about. Not taking your time to take in and enjoy this beautiful part of our country.

And it really was delicious
Well organised like all my past Intrepid trips (this was my 6th). My only criticism is that I would have liked more time in Launceston to either do my own thing or have an option trip to a place like the Tamar Valley.
The food, especially the fresh oysters on the east coast and the hikes including Marion's Lookout were just beautiful!

I understand This 6 day tour was the first tour that Intrepid has undertaken, so we were the pilot group. There were a few issues with our booking at the first nights hotel and communication regarding e- bike bookings. The tour then proceeded smoothly and was well organised as has been my past experience with Intrepid tours.
The small group were of similar age and varying riding experience. The tour leader Peter was very experienced and knowledgeable about the regions that we visited and very helpful. There was a good mix of riding time, free time and the winery experiences in each of the three wine regions visited were varied and I must say exceptional. Accommodation was mostly very good, with one night challenging in old uncomfortable beds. Transfers were on mini bus with bike trailer and our driver Peter N also took some fantastic photos of our tour. His enthusiasm was very high, and I feel sometimes overrode his his self filtering of some inappropriate comments.
Overall I would thoroughly recommend this trip.
