South Pacific Ocean Tour Selection Trips

  • The best time to visit the South Pacific islands is between April - October (the ‘dry season’). The southeasterly trade wind is blowing, there’s plenty of sunshine and less humidity. Between November - March (the ‘wet season’), cyclones are rare but occasionally hit the islands.
  • Air travel is the best way to get from one island to another if you’re limited in time, though keep in mind that not all destinations are connected via direct flights.
  • Book well in advance if planning to travel during the Christmas holiday season as flights and hotels sell out quickly with a surge of holiday-makers and locals flying back to the islands for a family visit.
  • Though island hopping is tempting, it’s best to not try and see too many islands, distances are great and you always want to leave plenty of time to experience ‘island life’. That said, no two islands are ever the same!
  • The most budget friendly islands are those of Fiji and Samoa though staying in locally operated family pensions will reduce costs in other destinations.
  • It’s best to pack lite, quick drying clothing and bring your own snorkeling gear. Pack something warm for the flights or those rare chilly nights as well as reef shoes and of course - sun screen.
  • Local SIM cards with 3G data are advisable as WiFi may not be available at all times and may not be free to use.
