- Some areas of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, through which a section of the Silk Road passes, are situated at altitudes over 10,000 feet; check with your doctor if you’re prone to altitude sickness.
- Occasional windstorms kick up desert dust that can clog the nose and throat and sting the eyes, so bring a kerchief and perhaps nose and eye drops for relief.
