What travelers are saying

"We joined the Intrepid “Real Italy Food Tour” and enjoyed it thoroughly. Our tour guide, Micol, was very knowledgeable and provided us with lots of good information. It seems Micol knew many of the staff of the venues we visited, including the pasta making class we attended. Our group of 11 travelers was extremely compatible, which greatly added to the fun and enjoyment."

Additional details

When to visit the Azores

The summer is when most people visit the Azores. Flight options and ferry services run more frequently, and summer is when the islands are in full swing. The weather is mild year-round, since it’s a subtropical region. This makes the Azores an ideal destination regardless of what time of year you visit.

If you want to avoid the crowds, shoulder season is an ideal time to visit. Winter may scale back on attractions being open. If you’re looking to beat the crowd, but still want to visit when things are open and the weather is nice, consider early summer (May) or late summer (September). Spring is also a popular time to visit, when the flowers are in bloom.

Azores Climate

The subtropical climate is what makes the Azores a great place to visit year-round. Is it winter and you want to get some warmth? Winter-time temperatures hover around the low-60s. Is it summer and you’re looking to escape the heat? Azores wins again with summer temperatures staying close to 80 – warm but not dreaded hot.

The ocean may be too chilly to swim in the winter (usually around 63 degrees F) and warms up to around 77 degrees in the summer. Early fall to early spring often experiences multiple seasons/weather changes in one day, so you may be met with wind, rain, and sunshine all in one day. The Azores are often referred to as Europe’s Hawaii, and between the climate and landscape, rightfully so.

Visiting different Azores Islands

Most archipelagos are pretty similar in terms of sceneries, so if you visit one island, you get the same views you would get on others. Visitors may want to reconsider if they think they will get the same experience with the Azores island. Each island offers its own unique environment.

Pico Island is filled with adventure, Santa Maria is great for relaxing on the sandy beach. Faial island is home to Varadouro’s rock pools, where many people can go visit the rocky coast and swim in one of the dozen pools on the black basalt rock. Regardless of which island you visit, all of them have the opportunity for some awesome outdoor experiences!

Joining an Azores Tour

If you’re looking to see multiple islands, and want to explore all the best spots of the Azores, a tour is presumably the best way to go. The tour can arrange transportation, accommodation, take you to all the best sites, and make sure everything is taken care of you so you can spend your time relaxing.

The Azores are gaining popularity in tourism, and as more people are aching to go, more tours are being created. The packages are being offered at low and affordable prices. If you’re flexible on dates, you can get some incredible deals on weeklong tour packages that include hotels and airfare.
