Editor’s Take
Most trip reviews tend to focus on some or all of these 5 key areas, not all of which may be relevant to you: the tour guide, travel company, service level, country or countries traveled in, and the trip itinerary.
Remember, just because you see a 1 star review doesn’t necessarily mean that person disliked the country.
Reviews for tours in Wales must be read knowing that a vast majority of Wales tours are actually England and Ireland tours that visit Wales very briefly.
The largest complaint in Wales tours reviews is the amount of time spent driving - meaning less time to take photos and stretch the legs. Wales is small, but part of enjoying the picturesque and sprawling countryside means that attractions are quite spaced out. In order to keep the tour schedule, the itinerary may involve more bus time than you expected.
Another very common negative comment for UK travel - lending to a lower tour review rating - has to do with the accommodation. While you can somewhat dictate your accommodation style when you choose a tour, it’s important to keep in mind that interpretations of “premium” and “value” can vary widely by tour company as well as country.
In the UK, a popular tour accommodation type is guest houses, bed and breakfasts, and homestays. While these are a great introduction to local culture, don’t expect the ritz. Hallways, staircases, and doorways are small in Britain. You will probably not have access to an elevator. Showers are also small, and it’s an open secret that plumbing in the UK isn’t always the best.
In Wales, as well as much of the UK, roads are small and often windy. If you’re prone to motion sickness, plan accordingly. Large or small coaches navigating the roads will feel hairy at times, and usually these vehicles don’t allow for open windows.
