What travelers are saying

"My wife & I are Australians and have been to Asia many times but not to Japan. We had heard good things, so we jumped on to an Intrepid trip in April, 2025. Our Guide was Shizuka Yoshimura who, while being born in Japan, was a well-travelled, knowledgeable and enthusiastic woman who was fun to be with and proved very capable in leading 9 of us, aged between about 30 years of age to mid-70's, from 4 nations around her own country. Shizuka was very fluent in English which was brilliant. Experience counts, both in the present, coping with transport & other issues which always arise, and in the planning and communicating the next stage of the tour with the group. Shizuka adapted to both the more able-bodied and the less physically able with care and good grace, always making sure that all members of the party were happy and comfortable with decisions regarding , e.g. whether or not to climb a few hundred steps to see a castle, shrine, etc. Everyone was always looked after and meeting points along the way were well spelled out, so no one felt abandoned in any way. Our accommodation was as advertised, so in the case of staying at Hacone in a traditional style (with really low beds and no seating above floor level), Shizuka arranged for standard kitchen chairs to be placed in our room which was great - it's always the little things that matter. Our trip was based on traveling most of the way by Shinkansen (bullet trains) and sometimes the ticketing was not straight-forward, but it was well explained all of the time and Shizuka's planning smoothed out the bumps every time. Shizuka's "local knowledge", being Japanese, assisted our group many times along the way when things may not have been going according to plan and we always felt looked after and confident that "The Boss" would quickly resolve any hiccups. Equally, Shizuka often gave us our own space and when a group dinner was not a part of the agenda we sometimes shared meals with her apart from the group or vice-versa - there was a good, relaxed feeling in the group that we were our own mature travellers as well as being a part of the group. Look, I know that things can go wrong whether you are hiking out in the bush or traveling at 300 kp/h, but in our experience our Guide Shizuka was very well equipped personally to adapt and overcome, and we had a beaut trip. Highly recommended."

What travelers are saying

"This was the first organized tour my husband and I have ever joined, so we were not sure what to expect , but it turned out to be the best vacation we've ever had. The scenery and food were amazing. We stayed in beautiful hotels. Most of the riding was on paved bike paths so we hardly ever had to deal with car traffic. Our leaders, Andrea and Martin, were funny, informative , and so helpful. We are already planning to go back to Italy with VBT this summer."

What travelers are saying

"This was a fantastic introduction to Scandinavia and the Nordic countries. There were a lot of options for additional activities or spending time discovering the cities on your own. The local specialists were very knowledgeable and amazing representatives for their regions. Our tour director was so fun and engaging. Not only did he have a lot of information about each country we were visiting, but also many fun stories and videos to share along the way. Our driver did an amazing job on some very difficult roads and I was very happy to be a passenger."

Chile Tour Selection Trips

  • With Chile’s many options for nature lovers, consider your physical limitations. If you want a more relaxing tour, look for tours with fewer physical demands.
  • Take the guess work out of finding Santiago's best food spots with an epicurean tour.
  • For treks in Patagonia, do not wait until the trip to test your outdoor gear. You don’t want any unpleasant surprises!
  • Looking to be wined and dined? Many tours offer excursions to Elqui Valley for wine and pisco tastings.
  • Dress in layers, because the climate can vary widely from day to night and from North to South.
  • Remember that Chile is south of the equator, and therefore the season are likely the opposite of your own

Additional details

Common Chile Guided Tour Lengths

Thanks to a superior transit system within this region of South America, tours to Chile can include several areas of the country in one go, whether you have one week or four. To get a solid feel for the country and its remarkable geography and fascinating culture, it’s wise to at least plan for ten days at a minimum. That said, if you have two to four weeks open on your calendar, you will certainly be able to fill it here!

Physical Requirements for Chile Guided Tours

Depending on your goals for your Chile guided tour, your physical fitness requirements may vary. Of course, if you’re planning to tackle many miles of trekking in Torres del Paine National Park or sandboarding in the Atacama Desert, you’ll be most comfortable if you are a regular exerciser back home.

Less physically demanding activities abound, however, and are suitable for those who are comfortable walking for a couple hours each day. This might include walking along Valparaiso’s cobblestone alleyways, zooming up to the summit of Santiago’s Cerro San Cristobal Hill by cable car and boating in to view the San Rafael Glacier.

Top Chile Destinations

In a country this vast and varied, Chile guided tours are a valuable way to take it all in … or at least as much as your time allows. Look for tours that include many of the following: Torres del Paine National Park, San Pedro de Atacama, Santiago, the vineyards of Colchagua and Millahue Valley, the Vina del Mar coastline and, if time allows, Easter Island.
