Day 1-2 Antigua
Arrive in the old colonial capital of Guatemala. Wander the cobbled streets and be delighted by lively markets, quaint buildings and the rhythms of indigenous marimba music drifting out of local restaurants. Visit a women's cooperative that works to assist community development in areas of health, education, clean water access and income generation, and admire the women's skills in traditional crafts such as weaving and textiles.
Day 3 Flores
Indulge in a chocolate-making class in the place where chocolate was first invented. Then take a short flight to Flores and discover the natural wonders of Tikal National Park. Once a powerful Maya city, Tikal was abandoned in the 10th century and sank into the surrounding jungle. It's now alive with local wildlife and awe-inspired visitors.
Day 4-5 San Ignacio
After a morning tour of the ruins of Tikal, cross the border into Belize. Wander around the beautiful town of San Ignacio at your leisure. Take in the sights of fast-flowing rivers, waterfalls and Maya ruins. If you're up for more adventure, why not go tubing or canoeing, or if you'd prefer a bit of relaxation the butterfly garden is a colourful treat. Perhaps take a daytrip to the Mountain Pine Ridge, where waterfalls, warm swimming holes and a huge system of caves are waiting to ignite your senses.
Day 6-7 San Pedro
Welcome to the Caribbean. Slip on a bathing suit and set yourself down on the pristine, golden sands of Belize. The turquoise waters offer up some incredible snorkelling opportunities; during feeding time, swim up close and personal with rays, reef sharks and sea turtles. If the season is right, there’s even the chance to tour a cove inhabited by dolphins and manatees. Come evening, sit back with a seafood banquet and watch the sun set into the ocean.
Day 8 Tulum
Be it hiking around the Caribbean coast or spending time exploring the ancient Maya ruins of Tulum, there are plenty of adventures to be had in this slice of tropical paradise. Perhaps start up a friendly match of beach volleyball, or for the less actively inclined, relax on the sand, splash about in the water and laze away the day.
Day 9-10 Playa del Carmen
Snorkel through underground caverns and stroll along the laid-back beaches of this popular family holiday getaway. Journey to the magnificent Chichen Itza ruins and learn about Maya rituals and traditional ball games. Explore the El Castillo pyramid and view the striking jaguar statue with eyes and spots of pure jade, faithfully guarding the entrance to this ancient crypt. Celebrate the sights and sounds of this amazing region in the final days of this memorable Caribbean family tour.

Accommodation is clean and simple. You'll mainly stay in small, locally-run, 2-3 star hotels and guesthouses, which reflect the character of the area, generally these will be a twin room with private facilities. Sometimes you'll stay in larger, more comfortable hotels or occasionally rustic accommodation with basic facilities. We use a variety of accommodation on most trips; chosen for their value for money, location and atmosphere. We also try and incorporate unique accommodation experiences, such as a night with a local tribe, or sleeping under the stars in the desert.GENERAL ROOMING CONFIGURATIONS: Family of two - All family groupings of two will be put into a twin room. Family of three - Wherever possible we will put you in a triple room. Please be aware that in some places triple rooms are in short supply. This means that, in practice, a triple room will often simply be a twin room with a mattress on the floor or a further bed squashed in. Where it is impossible to provide a triple room, you will have to decide which of your party takes the single room. Family of four or more - You will most likely stay in two twin rooms. If and wherever possible we will aim put you in a quadruple room. Whilst we will do our very best to ensure that families are roomed close together (in some cases, we can arrange adjoining rooms), we can’t guarantee this. Most family holidays occur during peak season and we sometimes have little to no control over where you will be put. You need to come prepared for this.
Guides
All Intrepid group trips are accompanied by one of our group leaders. The aim of the group leader is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. Intrepid endeavours to provide the services of an experienced leader however, due to the seasonality of travel, rare situations may arise where your leader is new to a particular region or training other group leaders. Your leader will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, recommend great local eating venues and introduce you to our local friends. While not being guides in the traditional sense you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the places visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious and social aspects. At Intrepid we aim to support local guides who have specialised knowledge of the regions we visit. If you were interested in delving deeper into the local culture at a specific site or location then your leader can recommend a local guide service in most of the main destinations of your trip.
Additional Information
Style descriptions
Original trips are classic Intrepid adventures. With a mix of included activities and free time, they offer plenty of opportunities to explore at your own pace and take part in activities that really get beneath the skin of a destination. While the occasional meal may be included, you'll have the freedom to seek out your own culinary adventures. Accommodation is generally budget or tourist class (2-3 star), but you're as likely to find yourself as a guest of a local family as staying in a hotel or camping. Transport will vary as well. Depending on the destination and the itinerary you could find yourself travelling on anything from a camel to a train or a private safari vehicle. It's all part of the adventure! Original travellers have a desire to make the most of their travel time and really get to know a place, its people and cultures.

Meals introduction
While travelling with us you'll experience the vast array of wonderful food available in the world. Your group leader will be able to suggest restaurants to try during your trip. On our camping trips we often cook the region's specialities so you don't miss out. To give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat, generally not all meals are included in the trip price. This also gives you more budgeting flexibility. As a rule our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. There's no obligation to do this though.
