What's this trip about?

Al-Andalus’ was once the heart of the Moorish Empire in Europe. Arriving in the 7th century, the Moors and Berbers from Morocco influenced almost every aspect of life on the Iberian Peninsula for over 500 years, building palaces and mosques. After exploring Madrid and the Moorish legacy in Granada and Seville we make the exciting crossing from Europe to Africa and the port city of Tangier. In Morocco we enjoy the beautiful ‘Blue City’ of Chefchaouen, holy Moulay idriss, the Andalusian quarter of Fez and famous Djemaa el Fna in Marrakech. This shared Moorish history flows through this entire two week itinerary and lets us appreciate these two contrasting yet familiar countries. An exciting journey across Spain and Morocco

Meals Included
Dinner: All breakfasts, 3 dinners included. Moroccan food is, generally speaking, excellent though not particularly varied. Breakfasts usually consist of bread and jam with coffee or tea. Meals eaten out are reasonably priced - kebab and bread cost only about £4 (US$7). In main towns it is possible to find very good French and Moroccan restaurants where a meal and French wine will cost anything from £20 upwards. Generally dinner is likely to cost between £5-10 (approx. US$8-15) depending on what you drink - so an estimate for food would be about £15 (approx. US$25) a day. Local beers, wines and soft drinks are available at very reasonable prices, but you can pay UK prices or more for imported alcohol. Your leader can help recommend restaurants each evening. Please note that if you have any special dietary requirements you should inform the Exodus Office prior to the trip. If you have a specific medical/dietary need (i.e. coeliac or vegan) you may find it helpful to bring some items of food with you from home. *Vegetarians:* Please be aware that a meat and fish diet is the norm in Spain. Vegetarians can be catered for, but a degree of flexibility is required. There is a fairly limited choice of vegetable tajines, couscous and omelettes. This is particularly the case in more rural areas. * * *Please note* that mealtimes in Spain are later than in many other countries; dinner is usually taken between 21:00 and 21.30.
