Culinary suggestions: Café Loki, Saegreifinn Restaurant

Day 2 Gullfoss - Geysir - South Coast

Head out of the city and drive to Gullfoss Waterfall and Geysir hot spring, highlights of Iceland’s famous Golden Circle. Continue your trip, stopping at highlights such as Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss Waterfalls, and the majestic Eyjafjallajokull and surrounding area, the site of the infamous volcanic eruption in 2010.

Approximate driving distance: 200 miles

Culinary suggestions: Cafe at Fontana Geothermal Baths, Efstidalur restaurant and farm, Fridheimar greenhouse and restaurant, Farmers Bistro.

Day 3 Skaftafell - Jokulsarlon - Vik

Today, visit the majestic Skaftafell region in Vatnajökull National Park. Lace up your hiking boots and explore this beautiful area. Continue to the shimmering icebergs of Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon before returning to the charming village of Vik in the afternoon. Wander through this remote seafront village and walk along the famous black sand beach!

Approximate driving distance: 295 miles

Culinary suggestions: Thorbergur Cultural Centre & Cafe

Day 4 Thingvellir - Borgarfjordur

Leave Vik this morning and drive to the UNESCO-certified Thingvellir National Park, a popular stop along the Golden Circle and the site of the ancient Icelandic parliament. The park itself is situated in a stunning volcanic landscape of mountains and lava flows on the edge of Iceland's largest lake.

Continue to Borgarfjordur fjord, where you'll visit the historic site of Reykholt, Hraunfoss and Barnafoss Waterfalls and Deildartunguhver, the most powerful hot spring in Europe.

Why not treat yourself to a rejuvenating soak at the Krauma natural geothermal spa?  Relax in pools fed by a perfect blend of water from Deildartunguhver and nearby glacial springs.

Approximate driving distance: 208 miles

Culinary suggestions: The Settlement Centre in Borgarnes, Stedji microbrewery, Ljomalind Country Market

As a reminder, we had contacted Viator that we arrived an hour early. Understandable, we had a 1 p.m. PU time. They said he could come at 12:45. It was 1:17 and we called back. They said he would arrive in a few minutes. We are 65. A man came over to us and said "I am taking a chance are you ? naming my first name". Other drivers were holding signs in the area. Then, FOUR TIMES WITH LUGGAGE, he stepped off with us on each floor and couldn't find his car. Then, he gets about to the hotel wherein it if a small side road going the oppoisite way and said "can I enter here"? We walked about 3 doors down to the hotel. I reported this to Viator for half credit as we have used Viator before. They sent an emal that they cannot offer us anything back. I will never use them in the future, nor will I recommend them.

The vacation went well. Our only complaint with the package was the luggage allowance for the flights was not clear up-front. This package was for 8 days to London and Paris, and the package allowed no checked luggage which could have been OK, but weight limit for carry-on was just 22 pounds. Considering the weight of the suitcase, this is not a lot of stuff for 8 days in DEC. So had to purchase checked bags which was quite a bit. Paris Hotel in much better neighborhood than London, but was much smaller. Both locations very good for breakfast and for transit.

Both hotels were well situated; full service breakfasts incl. in both. The one in Copenhagen was fine; the one in Stockholm was larger, had more amenities incl. a good restaurant/bar. The boat tours were comprehensive. The train ride betw. the cities showed us the countryside. Tivoli Gardens & the historic Christmas market in Stockholm dating back to the early 1800’s were glorious. Recommend dinner along the canals. A lovely tour although a bit short; a couple more days would have been nice.
