Itinerary

Day 1: Depart USA.

Your journey to Iceland begins with a non-stop overnight flight from the U.S. to Reykjavik, Iceland on Icelandair. Icelandair does not provide meal service on this flight. You may purchase a meal on the flight, or eat dinner prior to departure. Also, as the flight is only 5 hours, try to sleep as much as possible on the flight as to avoid jet lag.

Day 2: Arrive in Reykjavik/Welcome Breakfast/City Tour/Northern Lights Excursion.

Meals: Breakfast

Accommodation: Center Hotel Plaza or Fosshotel Baron

An early morning arrival in Reykjavik, the world’s northernmost capital that is known for its creative soul and eye-popping design. With a population of around 120,000, Reykjavik is one of the cleanest, greenest, and safest cities in the world. You’ll be greeted at the airport and escorted to a restaurant at a nearby village for your welcome breakfast. During breakfast, you’ll receive an orientation briefing and get introduced to your group. Following breakfast, you’ll head straight to the capital for your panoramic Reykjavik city tour and take in the city’s major attractions. Highlights include the old town, the Parliament, the Cathedral, the harbor, the national museum, the Laugadalur swimming, the Asmundur Sveinsson Sculpture museum, the Pearl, the Hofoi House, and the city’s main landmark, the Hallgrimskirkja. Then, transfer to your centrally located hotel to check in and enjoy the afternoon / early evening at leisure. Later this evening, if the weather cooperates, embark on an included Northern Lights (or Aurora Borealis) excursion in search of the entrancing and magical display of beautiful colors dancing across the night sky. Please note that there is no guarantee that you will see the Northern Lights during your trip, but smarTours will make every effort to help you experience it. If the forecast is suboptimal this evening, your Reykjavik Northern Lights excursion will be rescheduled for another evening. And don’t forget, your overnight stay in the remote village of Vik in South Iceland is the best opportunity to see the Northern Lights at their best.

Day 3: Reykjavik/Optional Wonders of Snaefellsnes Excursion.

Meals: Breakfast

Wake up in Iceland’s capital city and enjoy a buffet breakfast at your centrally-located hotel. You can enjoy a day at leisure for independent sightseeing in or around Reykjavik, or you can join a fascinating full day optional excursion where you’ll discover the Snaefellsnes peninsula in the west of Island with its white and black sand beaches, bird cliffs, spectacular mountains, volcanic craters and charming fishing villages. The spectacular Snaefellsnes peninsula has captured the attention of people across the globe, as it was featured in the famous science fiction novel “Journey to the Center of the Earth” and in the critically acclaimed movie “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” starring Ben Stiller. There are several additional exciting optional tours available to book as well.

Day 4: Reykjavik/Seljalandsfoss & Skogarfoss Waterfalls/Black Sand Beaches/Vik/Northern Lights Experience.

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner

Accommodation: Hotel Katla

After breakfast, begin your journey through the stunning landscapes of Iceland’s south coast. This is the land of Njal’s Saga, a region of breathtaking scenery and legendary stories. During your guided excursion, you’ll encounter the wonderful variety of the south: from the wide plains formed by glacial rivers to the dramatic sea cliffs of Dyrholaey to the spectacular waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skogarfoss. Along the way, you’ll also savor unforgettable views of the Hekla and Eyjafjallajokul volcanoes and the beautiful village of Vik, Arrive at your countryside hotel, where you’ll check in and then enjoy an included dinner at the hotel. Later this evening, simply leave your hotel room for an excellent opportunity to see the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) in this remote part of Iceland. Vik is considered to be one of the most magical places to take in a Northern Lights experience.

Day 5: Vik/Geysir/Gulfoss/Thingvellir/Reykjavik.

Meals: Breakfast

Accommodation: Center Hotel Plaza or Foss hotel Baron

Following breakfast this morning, depart for a journey through some of Iceland’s most spectacular and noteworthy sights as you make your way back to Reykjavik. Your first highlight of the day is the hot spring area to see the famous Geysir and Strokkur, a magical shot spring that spouts every few minutes. Get your cameras ready for an exciting show! Onwards to Gulfoss (translated as “Golden Falls”), Iceland’s most famous and impressive waterfall featuring a spectacular double cascade. Your next stop is Thingvellir National Park, where the ancient Viking parliament met for centuries on the shores of Iceland’s largest lake. Here, you can also witness the geological phenomenon of tectonic plates coming apart. Later, return to your centrally-located hotel in Reykjavik and enjoy an evening at leisure.

Day 6: Reykjavik/Reykjanes Peninsula/Blue Lagoon/Farewell Dinner.

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner

Today, you will combine a tour of the fascinating area beyond Reykjavik with a reviving visit to one of Iceland’s most astonishing natural wonders. Your tour explores: Hafnarfjordur town, built on an ancient lave flow; the otherworldly surroundings of Lake Kleifarvatn; Krisuvik, a geothermal field; and the port town of Grindavik. You will also have the chance to explore Gunnuhver geothermal area and Reykjanesviti light house. A visit to the Blue Lagoon will give you a warm and relaxing end of the day. The Blue Lagoon itself is a unique gift of nature, it’s electric blue water set in a black lava field. You’ll enjoy a reviving bathe in the mineral rich geothermal water before heading back to Reykjavik! This evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with your group where you’ll celebrate your experience in incredible Iceland.

Day 7: Reykjavik/Harpa Concert Hall/USA.

Meals: Breakfast

A morning at leisure before checking out of your hotel. Before noon, your guide will lead you on a short walk to the Harpa Concert Hall, opened in 2011. The building is the first purpose-built concert hall in Reykjavík and houses the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the offices of The Icelandic Opera. You will enjoy a guided tour before departing for the airport for your return flight home. Your memorable journey comes to an end as you touch down in the USA later today.

We were on the middle October 2017 tour. Our tour guide, Oli, MADE us stay out on the tour the first night that we were there--for some of us having stayed up for nearly 24 hours BUT--he was right we had views of the Northern Lights that never appeared another night--He was great--I loved all the tales of the Trolls and Hidden People--he was very informed about all the things that make Iceland so special. Plan to go back. The worst part of the whole trip was my getting called out--cataracts and all--for extra scrutiny at the Reyjavik airport--and that the overnight at JFK was unbearable--except for watching some Peruvians in native costume--recognized from our trip to Macchu Picchu --who were waiting on a flight.--Hated that part of it all--the connection--but loved the trip itself.

As this was our first organized/group tour I didn’t know what to expect. We booked our airfare independently as wanted to visit Dubai prior to the start of the tour. Upon arrival in Cairo at the Marriott Cairo a day before the tour started, our room was assigned already and the check in process was seamless. We had a welcome dinner the next day and met up with our group of 16 people and our exceptional Egyptologist & tour guide, Mrs. Enas Hassan. I cannot say enough about the knowledge, courtesy, patience and professionalism of Enas. This tour would have not been the same without her. I believe this in-depth tour was a fantastic way to visit Egypt. We were a bit apprehensive about travel to Egypt but now freshly back in the states, I have absolutely no qualms that we made this trip of a lifetime. After researching several aspects of travel to this region, I discovered that crime in a Egypt is less than half of a percent compared to crime in the USA which is 12%. Everyone we encountered was genuinely friendly and accommodating. Vendors at the markets & bazaars will approach you for a sale but not at all intimidating or threatening. Be ready to bargain with them as you would expect. Such a great feeling to get a good deal on souvenirs and priceless goods. The itinerary was comprehensive and learned so much further than that from lessons learned earlier in life. There was an equal amount of discovery and education compared to some needed downtime. As a gay married couple, we were a bit apprehensive about this tour as uncertain about visiting the a Middle East but the apprehension quickly subsided once we met our fellow travelers within our group and our trustworthy guide, Enas. We are ages 47 and 53 and we were the youngest within our group with the exception of a 24 year old daughter of other group attendees that happen to also be from Central Florida. I think our only negative feedback would be that we would have liked additional “free time” at each location but as the ages of our fellow travelers were greater than our own, they did not have the stamina to do more which is understandable, I suppose. We also had a couple that did not seem to be satisfied with accommodations, food, activity, etc. This was somewhat discerning as everyone else in the group was having a fantastic time and their energy was unnerving. When visiting a foreign country, you cannot expect things to be the same as in the USA. You need to have an open mind and experience a culture that is different than your own. I have gained so much valuable insight into the culture, history, incredible & unbelievable sights we were afforded to see on this amazing adventure. This trip, again, would not have been the same without the exceptional guidance of Enas Hassan, please request her for a truly Egyptian experience that you will never forget.

It was excellent. Our Tour Director & Egyptologist Mohamed Atef was one of the best that I have seen in my 40 years of worldwide travels. He was very knowledgeable and an excellent communicator. What set him apart was that he and his team took personal interest in the needs and welfare of every tour member. The hotels accommodations, Nile river boat Movenpick MS Royal Lily, local tour Buses and the meals were all wonderful. Their logistics management, baggage handling, room check-ins, meals and transfers to and from the airport were impeccable. Each and every historical site and the museums that we visited was beyond fabulous. The sites, statues are magnificent and the colors inside the Tombs are still vibrant after 4700 plus years. The Egyptian people are are quite friendly and very welcoming. One does run into vendors trying to sell you the local papyrus, books and clothing artifacts at these sites. But we recognized that this is their livelihood and were not bothered by it. We were very fortunate to have such a nice and fun group. Everyone had become friendly during the tour. The farewell dinner ended on a festive note with birthday celebrations for a couple of people in the group. I highly recommend this tour.

We've just returned from the Splendors of Egypt 10 days tour. We love it! Arrangements and logistics were set up and managed to the highest quality standards. Hotels, transportation, cruise, meals, luggage handling - everything was excellent. However, the top highlight of the tour was our Tour Director - Noha Ouf. Her knowledge, enthusiasm and passion made our experience unique. Her pride of Egyptian history and culture and the way she was delivering information excited us a lot. SmarTours is lucky to have Noha! We recommend this tour, in general, to those who is interested in exploring Egypt and to learn about its long history and rich heritage and, specifically, choosing smarTours for its organization and care. And, if you decide to go, request Noha - it will add value for the money paid!

Trip was excellent with the exception of having to be on a flight to Aswan after arriving in Cairo requiring we all get up at 2:30 a.m. creating a major sleep deficit right off the bat. Following that we had to fly to Abu Simbel making for a very long day. We had several people become ill with diarrhea and being dehydrated and I wonder if lack of sleep might have contributed to this condition. I did not but my partner did being up all night and suffering the following day. To repeat Tour Guide Dina Talaat was terrific! Don't know how you provide such a quality trip for so little money. Great value!
