Highlights

  • Norway's fjords feature some of the most stunning scenery on Earth. Cruise past waterfalls and snow-capped peaks through the narrow Naeroyfjord.
  • Visit Dalarna County, nestled in middle Sweden and often referred as “Sweden in miniature” for the abundance of lakes, forests, and local traditions.
  • Follow your local guide along the narrow, winding roads through genuine villages, past the typical red painted cottages and explore unique sights around Siljan lake rural settlements. You'll even get a chance to meet and mingle with the locals living in these villages.
  • Discover Stockholm's maritime history at the Vasa Museum, which houses an original wooden war ship from 1628. This impressive vessel gives you a rare glimpse into the naval power Sweden was once famous for.

What travelers are saying

"I did the EBC trek with Intrepid in September and October. Our group missed the first 3 days of the planned 12 day trek due to bad weather. There was a real fear we would not be able to do the trek at all. Intrepid sorted out additional accommodation and flights once we were able to fly. Our group made it to EBC by missing the 2 acclimation days on the accent and descending in 3 days instead of 4. This was only possible because of the awesome staff (guides and porters) employed by Intrepid and by Intrepid's backroom staff making alternative accommodation and flight arrangements for us."

What travelers are saying

"This was the first organized tour my husband and I have ever joined, so we were not sure what to expect , but it turned out to be the best vacation we've ever had. The scenery and food were amazing. We stayed in beautiful hotels. Most of the riding was on paved bike paths so we hardly ever had to deal with car traffic. Our leaders, Andrea and Martin, were funny, informative , and so helpful. We are already planning to go back to Italy with VBT this summer."

Additional details

Where is Stockholm?

Stockholm is located on Sweden’s east coast, where the freshwater Lake Malaren meets the Baltic Sea. It is a unique city in that it is made up of various islands also called the Stockholm Archipelago. More than ⅓ of the city is comprised of waterways and ⅓ is made up of parks and green spaces. Nature lovers and urbanites will be delighted with a visit to Stockholm.

Traveling from Stockholm to Copenhagen

There are numerous ways to travel between Stockholm and Copenhagen, as many travelers choose to combine these two cities on a trip. There are direct trains that take roughly 5.5 hours from Stockholm central station to København H Train Station.

Alternatively, you can take a direct flight in about 1.5 hours or take a rental car road trip for about 7.5 hours to make stops along the way. Finally, you can take a local bus for a cheaper option, which will take about 10 or more hours.

Tips for touring Stockholm

Scandinavia as a whole, including Stockholm, can be a rather expensive travel location but there are ways to visit on a budget including eating at lunch buffets and avoiding big restaurants, purchasing the Stockholm card (access to public transportation and free entrance to most museums and canal tours) bringing and refilling your water bottle and drinking beer instead of more costly alcoholic beverages.

Sightseeing in Stockholm hosts a large variety of activities and sights, as such one could easily enjoy multiple days in Stockholm. If you’re on a timeframe, it is possible to get a taste for the major sights within 1-2 days, as long as you plan ahead on what you don’t want to miss.

Do most Sweden tours include Stockholm?

Yes, the majority of Sweden tours and Scandinavia tours include a visit in Stockholm, as it is the major international airport and a cultural gem. Depending on the tour, the length of stay and guided activities in Stockholm could differ. Some tours in the northern part of Sweden meet visit smaller cities in the north and do not include a visit to Stockholm.
