What travelers are saying

"Completed 3 trips with Intrepid this year. A prior last year. The Leaders are well organized, informative and fun. Travelling inland in Greece and the Greek Islands (second time), Intrepid through their amazing leaders, introduce you and share history, way of life, amazing scenery and places to eat. Yes, they are busy days and you walk a lot, but the days are full and stimulating. You make life long friends in the group and leaders. Thank you Mia, Dina and Nasos. Your energy and knowledge is a future of memories."

What travelers are saying

"We booked a trip to Italy with Sky Vacations and could not have been happier with the results. We didn’t want to do the usual tourist visits because we had been to Italy before. They designed a trip that took us to Umbria and Marche and Lake Bracciano and it was great. We wanted to stay in luxury, smaller hotels, do cooking classes, wine tasting and some touring and every item was executed perfectly. We’re now booking Greece with them. A great company we highly recommend."

What travelers are saying

"I recently booked a trip to Japan with Audley Travel, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. While the initial booking process was smooth and included clear communication via phone calls, the overall experience was disappointing, especially considering the high cost. The initial booking process was straightforward, and I had a couple of phone calls to clearly describe my essential needs for the trip. Communication before the trip was generally fine, but there were notable issues. Audley was unable to confirm all accommodation details, particularly my request for booking connecting rooms for a 4-person family. Instead, we were often crammed into a small room, which was far from ideal. Additionally, I had specifically requested kid-friendly hotels that offered western menu options. This was not the case at our last stop, where the hotel provided exclusively traditional Japanese food, which was not suitable for my family. One significant problem was the overwhelming amount of information provided, both printed and online. Unfortunately, this information was often inconsistent and riddled with mistakes. The tour guides we worked with received different itineraries, causing confusion and frustration. Even worse, the itinerary included activities that were not actually booked, despite being paid for. The same issue occurred with accommodation specifics. Had I known they were not going to be able to book per my request (which they had claimed to be working on), I would have challenged the overall cost and probably used a different provider. During the trip, Audley's support was severely lacking. We repeatedly tried to contact them for solutions to various issues but received no response. Audley works with a local partner in Japan, but they were limited in their ability to resolve our problems and often directed us back to Audley. This resulted in a frustrating loop of no solutions and a waste of time. It also appears that Audley is very short-staffed. We received an out-of-office notice from the person who booked our trip, and no backup or alternative assistance was offered. This lack of support is unacceptable, given the price we paid for their services. Audley Travel also failed to point out important festivals happening on the dates of our travel. This was a significant oversight and something one would definitely expect a competent travel agency to handle. To their credit, Audley Travel did a decent job with very basic needs such as train ticket bookings and airport pickups. However, for everything else, their service was far below expectations. In acknowledgment of their shortcomings, Audley Travel issued a refund, but it was not commensurate with the impact these issues had on our trip. Overall, I do not recommend Audley Travel and will not be booking with them again."

What travelers are saying

"My husband and I booked the Yellowstone tour with Tauck expecting so much more with the accommodations, food, and tour director based on the price point. We were sadly disappointed but still tried to enjoy the experience. Rooms were dirty, food were often buffets and other group dinners with some food inedible. We noticed other tours staying in our hotels and paying much less for their tours. One positive was we never touched our luggage which was nice but my small suitcase was damaged during one transfer. Word to the wise… read their emails thoroughly as the email we received a few weeks before our trip reads like a disclaimer for poor service and accommodations."

Belfast Tour Selection Trips

  • When going on a multi-day tour of Ireland, try to pack light. Odds are you will be traveling a lot, and that means moving baggage in and out of bed and breakfasts, into coaches, not just to and from the airport!
  • If you’re trying to save money, skip a fancy non-included dinner and take a trip to your local convenience store. Travelers are always surprised just how different grocery stores in the U.K are from those in the U.S., even if they both are Western, English-speaking countries. Grab a bunch of unfamiliar snacks and cakes to try, you will have a feast while getting some good cultural immersion in!
  • Bring a good, sturdy pair of walking shoes. Even if your trip to Belfast is considered physically easy, you will want to get out of the car or bus at some point and wander around Belfast’s scenic countryside. Even in well-visited natural areas, such as the Giant’s Causeway, the ground can become muddy and rocky, so it’s best to be prepared.

Additional details

Belfast Weather & When to Go

Belfast experiences distinct seasons with varied weather, which may play a role in when you decide to visit. The warmest time of the year is the summer, which takes place from June to August, when temperatures reach an average high of about 70 degrees, and daylight hours are extremely long. For these reasons, the summer is typically considered the best time to visit Belfast. The most festivals also happen during the summer months.

The spring is close runner-up, however. The lowest chances of rain are during the spring, and temperatures are still comfortable with highs in the 60’s. The landscape is particularly scenic during this time, with animal and plant life coming to blossom.

Like the spring, the autumn is a good in-between time, with similar weather and daylight hours to the Spring. Both of these times of year are also great times to cash in on discounted travel and avoid other tourists.

In the winter, Belfast doesn’t get too too cold, and experiences highs in the mid 40’s Fahrenheit. The weather typical fluctuates in and out of freezing, so more than an inch or so of snow is unlikely. However, the sun sets quite early, and many hours you could be spending traveling in the summer are spent wasted in the dark.

One more thing about Belfast weather to note is that, no matter the time of year, short rain showers are common in Northern Ireland. These do not typically last more than a hour or so, so many locals suggest saving the extra luggage space and skipping a rain jacket. Instead, you can jump inside of a local pub when it starts to rain!

Belfast Street Art Tours

While the most well-known graffiti spots are along the city Peace Wall, there are plenty of fantastic spots to go hunting for street art. A common activity on walking tours, your guide is sure to dive into Belfast’s troubled political past while explaining any of the street murals you encounter, so you’ll also get a good refresher on Northern Ireland history.

Another little known fact is that Belfast’s street art is not just restricted to political art created during the Troubles. In fact, the street art scene in Belfast is flourishing, and a cultural tour provides fascinating insight into the city’s subcultures.

What is the Belfast Castle?

One of the city’s primary landmarks, the Belfast Castle is not actually a medieval castle. This building, more aptly called the Belfast Castle Estate, was built in the 1860’s and is located in the beautiful Cavehill Park and just outside of the city.

The Castle used to be the centerpiece of Cavehill, which was previously one single estate. Today, you can enter the building for a nice cup of tea at the Castle’s cafe. Today, the Castle is primarily used as a wedding venue.
