Florida Coastal Explorer Self-Drive

Day 1 : Miami

Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Miami. On arrival in Miami make your own way to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free to relax.

Day 2 : Miami

Today you will experience the fabulous culture and food of Little Havana. This easy bike tour takes in the Cuban influenced district of Miami with a knowledgeable guide and includes tasty samples of local cuisine.The rest of the day is for exploring the glamorous South Beach area of Miami. Stroll down Collins Avenue and stop for a coffee at a pavement cafe before taking in the Art Deco architecture.

Day 3 : Key West

Take a leisurely walk or go by taxi to your car hire depot in South Beach. Collect your vehicle and travel south on one of the more renowned American road trips. Cross bridges and causeways through small coastal towns all the way to Key West. On arrival in Key West check in to your hotel.

Day 4 : Key West

Enjoy a day trip out to the Dry Tortugas National Park, a collection of small islands off the coast of Key West. Centred around Fort Jefferson, a historic brick-built fort, enjoy exploring the history and swimming and snorkelling in pristine translucent waters.

Day 5 : Islamorada

After breakfast and a relaxed morning in Key West take Highway 1 northbound back towards Miami. Stop at the small town of Islamorada that afternoon and check in to your hotel for the night.

Day 6 : Naples, FL

Depart Islamorada on Highway 1 and drive back onto the mainland before travelling west through the Everglades National Park to Naples, on the gulf of Mexico. That evening check in to your hotel.

Day 7 : Naples, FL

Whilst in Naples don't miss out on taking a stroll along historic 5th Street. A great place to shop and relax at one of the restaurants. Their terraces make a great place to people watch and enjoy a great meal.

Day 8 : Sanibel Island & Captiva Island

Travel north from Naples the relatively short distance to Sanibel and Captiva Islands. Cross the causeway and make your way to your hotel.

Day 9 : Sanibel Island & Captiva Island

Enjoy time exploring Sanibel and Captiva Islands. Relax on the islands' excellent beaches, look for shells or pick up souvenirs in the small local boutiques. There are some wonderful seafood restaurants to try during your stay here.

Day 10 : Sanibel Island & Captiva Island

Today you could visit the Ding Darling nature reserve. Home to 220 species of birds, more than 50 types of reptiles, and 32 different kinds of mammals. The refuge features wonderful bird watching spots, bike and walking paths, winding canoe trails and a four-mile scenic drive.

Day 11 : Sanibel Island & Captiva Island

Try one of the many activities available at your resort. Take a boat or kayak out and take in the coastline around Captiva Island, relax in the swimming pool or spa or perhaps have a go at fishing.

Day 12 : Clearwater, Florida

Travel north on the inland interstate before heading west, crossing several bridges before arriving at Clearwater. Check into your beachfront hotel that afternoon.

Day 13 : International return flight

Spend a final relaxing day on beautiful Clearwater beach before packing up and making your way to Tampa Airport that afternoon. Return your rental vehicle and check in for your onward flight.

Day 14 : International return flight

Arrive home today to complete your journey.
