Madagascar's southern national parks

Overview
Short Description
Madagascar’s national parks and reserves ensure the protection of its unique inhabitants. Walking through deciduous forests and rainforests, you might hear the haunting call of an indri (the largest species of lemur), see a chameleon blending into its surroundings, or encounter the island’s only predator, the fox-like fossa. Our Madagascar specialists can also plan your trip around seeing migratory humpback whales, or so you can experience local culture with a riverboat cruise past tiny villages.

Day 1 : International outbound flight
Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Antananarivo.
Day 2 : Antananarivo
On arrival in Antananarivo (Tana) you will be met and assisted with currency exchange before being driven to your hotel in central Tana.
Day 3 : Andasibe-Mantadia National Park
Today you will be met by your driver and guide who will collect you from your hotel and drive you through the countryside from Tana to Andasibe. Here you will spend the next few days exploring the rainforest looking for the indri, the largest of the lemurs.
Day 4 : Andasibe-Mantadia National Park
You will have an English speaking guide for your time in Andasibe. He will take you on a forest walk in the Andasibe National Park to search for the indris. In the afternoon you may wish to enjoy a further walk in the park or go to the Mantadia National Park to explore. After dark you can enjoy a night walk along the road parallel to the park where you will often get some good sightings of chameleons as well as lemurs.
Day 5 : Andasibe-Mantadia National Park
Today you have the opportunity to head back into Andasibe with your guide. There are a number of different walks you can take so there is no danger of repeating yourself. I would also suggest you head to Indri Island. Although the lemurs here are not wild it gives you a wonderful opportunity to see these incredible animals close up.
Day 6 : Antsirabe
After breakfast your guide will drive you back towards Tana and onto Antsirabe where you will over night. Antsirabe is a small market town which you will have the chance to explore should you wish. It offers a great insight into Malagasy life as you will have the chance to see craftsmen going about their work.
Day 7 : Ranomafana National Park
Today you will leave Antsirabe and continue your journey down to Ranomafana where you will spend the next couple of nights. En route, you may like to stop off at Ambositra for lunch and visit the Zafimaniry wood carvings. Arriving in the afternoon you can relax at your lodge in Ranomafana National Park or enjoy a guided walk to start exploring.
Day 8 : Ranomafana National Park
Today you will have guided walks in Ranomafana where you will have the chance to see many lemurs and look for smaller creatures such as chameleons and frogs.
Day 9 : Isalo National Park
This morning you will have an early start as you drive down to Isalo where you will spend the next three nights. Along the way you will have the chance to stop and take photographs of the stunning scenery. You may also like to stop off at Anja Park where you will have the chance to see some ring tailed lemurs. You will then arrive in Isalo National Park, where you will spend the next few nights hopefully in time to watch sunset through La Fenetre - a dramatic window-like hole in the rock.
Day 10 : Isalo National Park
A full day of guided walking in the park will allow you to explore one of Madagascar's most diverse parks today. Very different to the lush tropical vegetation in the east, Isalo's attraction is its vast rolling plains broken up with mountains.
Day 11 : Isalo National Park
Enjoy more activities in Isalo National Park today.
Day 12 : Tulear (Toliara)

The Tanzania specialist Scott Davenport was extremely helpful and made the trip both memorable and hassle free. An outstanding service and I would highly recommend this company.

A Golden Experience!
The trip exceeded our expectations in so many ways. Starting with time in the Darwin Area then on to Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef the 'top end' of Australia was fascinating. Then came Ularu in the heart of Australia such a spiritual and atmospheric environment. The bustling city of Sydney exceeded all expectations. Circular Quay was fascinating and so photogenic with both Harbour Bridge and Opera House. The Botanical gardens are beautiful and trips to Bondi and Manley beaches were not to be missed. Miss Saigon at the Opera House on our last night in Australia provided the pinnacle to our Australian experience. Tokariki island resort, Fiji is the most beautiful environment we have ever been in and the Fijian staff were friendly, courteous and faultless in everything they did. Fiji was a wonderful end to a perfect Golden Wedding celebration.
Perfection. Well done Audley and their Japan specialist Malcolm Wellby.
It Could Not Have Been Better!
Hotels and Safari Camps and their staffs were superb. And we are “worrywarts” so David’s thoroughness and patience were terrific!
