Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to London

Spend the day exploring the pomp and pageantry of a city that effortlessly combines old and new.

Day 2: Discover Historic London

Join a Local Specialist this morning for a tour of the iconic and unexpected highlights of London, including Big Ben, the imposing Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Spend a leisurely afternoon shopping on Carnaby Street, consider visiting one of London's museums or wander along the Thames watching ambitious Londoners pound the pavements.

Day 3: Cross the English Channel to Paris

Meet your Travel Director before saying cheerio London and hello sparkling White Cliffs of Dover, England's last hurrah before we cross the English Channel bound for Calais. We pass the tragic World War I battlefields of the Somme before arriving in Paris where we will enjoy a Welcome Reception with dinner. This evening the City of Lights provides an enchanting backdrop for an orientation drive that will showcase several of the sights which await us tomorrow.

Day 4: Explore the Sights of Paris

Embark on a scenic sojourn, with your Local Specialist, along the grand Champs-Élysées to view the Arc de Triomphe, honouring those who fought for France. View Notre Dame Cathedral and enjoy a stroll through the Latin Quarter. This afternoon, you’ll have some leisure time to explore the treasures of Paris. Perhaps enjoy breath-taking views from the highest rooftop terrace in Paris or relax at a cosy French café and enjoy a glass of wine while watching the world go by.

Day 5: Onwards to Explore Lucerne

We wind our way through the sprawling vineyards of Auxerrois and Burgundy, journeying south past the 15th-century fortress of Châteauneuf and rolling green farmlands into Switzerland bound for Lucerne. Cross the famous wooden Chapel Bridge with its 17th-century paintings and view the mortally wounded lion hewn from rock, paying tribute to the hundreds of brave Swiss Guards who died defending Louis XVI.

Day 6: Journey to the Floating City of Venice

The contrast of scenery today is nothing short of remarkable. Traversing the Alps, we travel through the St. Gotthard tunnel and the border at Chiasso into Italy. Catch a glimpse of northern Italy's beautiful lakes, whose scenic retreats have attracted the aristocracy for centuries, before arriving later in Venice.

Day 7: On to Florence

Take to the water and board a private motor launch to the gateway of Venice, St. Mark's Square. View the Bridge of Sighs and ornate Doge's Palace, then Dive Into Culture on your unforgettable MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience where you’ll witness the centuries-old craft of glassblowing at one of the oldest workshops in Venice. Watch how talented master craftsmen shape the molten glass into the delicate works of art you’ve come to admire from afar and perhaps be inspired to buy your own souvenir to remind you of this special experience. Later, there’s time to explore the hidden calle and campi of Venice to fit in some shopping or soak up the sights and sounds of the Queen of the Adriatic before crossing the Apennine Mountains bound for Florence, the 'Cradle of the Renaissance'.

Day 8: Journey to Rome

The magnificent Renaissance dome of Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral and the Baptistery stand imposingly in the centre of Florence and are among the sights we will view during our guided walking tour with a Local Specialist. Delve into the city’s rich cultural, artistic and architectural heritage, then learn about the quality and workmanship of one of this city's historic industries at a demonstration of Florentine leathercraft. Admire the Ponte Vecchio which has spanned the Arno River for almost 700 years. Marvel at the impressive palazzi and art in the Piazza della Signoria, the political hub of the city. Rome is our final stop today.

Day 9: Uncover Ancient Rome and the Vatican City

Visit the Vatican for a memorable encounter with the centre of Christianity. A Local Specialist will take you on a tour of St. Peter's Basilica, the home of Michelangelo's Pietà, crafted from the most perfect block of Carrara marble. Consider an Optional Experience to see the magnificent frescoes of the Sistine Chapel, before travelling to Ancient Rome to view the Colosseum where brave gladiators and slaves fought to the death to the thunderous applause of thousands of spectators. This evening, at our Farewell Dinner, we Connect With Locals at a Be My Guest experience and celebrate the Italian zest for life, food and good company.

Day 10: Farewell Rome

Our adventure together has come to an end. We say a fond farewell to Rome and our travel companions at the end of our journey. Find out more about your free airport transfer at trafalgar.com/freetransfers.

I just returned from Best of Scotland…

I just returned from Best of Scotland tour. This was my 4th trafalgar tour, but not the best one. Hotel in Edinburgh (first night) is old and run down. If you arrive a day early and want to go to old town Edinburgh, you cannot walk to it. You will need a car or take the bus. The hotel Craiglyyne in the Highlands had mold in my room. You could not only you smell it, but you could see it vividly in the bathtub/shower. I had to sleep with the windows open all night which made the room very cold since it was raining. The food was horrible. One night I ordered the salmon...gross it was a slice a salmon that had been boiled in water. Pork roast the other night was so tough I couldn't even cut it with a knife. Food was cold. Breakfast was stale cereal, a coffee machine that only worked sometimes, and eggs made with water. In Culloden, you only get 45 minutes to see the war memorial, hardly enough time to explore all of the battlefield, let alone if you have to use the restrooms. The ferry was canceled due to poor weather, so the travel director had the bus drive take us on a tour of the highlands, which was beautiful, but spending 10 hours on a bus ride is not fun. This tour would be better if it was extended a day and better hotel choices made by trafalgar.

They've lost my £10,000 at the first hurdle!

A potential customer in the process of booking a tour for nearly £10,000 with Trafalgar, who thankfully stopped before it was too late.

We had a few questions to ask before final completion of our booking, but this utterly USELESS company can't even provide a sales team to answer the phone or web chat in a timely and efficient manner. After several failed attempts to contact them I decided to look here on TrustPilot to see if I was just being unlucky, and WOW thank goodness I did! I note their customer service reviews have been consistently atrocious for a very long time, without any responses or comments from Trafalgar, and apparently without them taking any action to rectify their appalling performance.

Over the years I've found many companies with slick and efficient sales teams but poor after-sales, but Trafalgar appear not even to have a competent sales department! This defies any semblance of commercial logic. If they can't even afford to employ sales staff how can they expect to make sales and take any money? They have certainly failed to take mine. Just staggering incompetence at the very first encounter, so heaven knows how bad they would be thereafter, and I'm not waiting around to find out.

Many thanks to all here who have taken the trouble to write reviews. Looks like you have saved me a whole pile of grief.

We just finished The Best of Canada tour with Trafalgar and it was first class every day. Hotels were beautiful and located in great areas. Bus and driver were great. Tour director was the best! I would recommend them. And we,like others, had 2 trips canceled and we waited along with thousands of others for a refund. But we knew it was going to take time and patience is a wonderful thing! We will travel with them again.

Trafalgar cancelled our tour booking without our consent because I asked about if there was availability on another tour. Never did they mention that enquiring about another tour they cancel your existing booking. Now the tour is full and I have spent $18,000 on Qantas airfares and accom. Tour booked in Jan 2023 for Sept 2023 tour. Nobody takes responsible and nobody will call me to discuss. Family of 4 holiday ruined,.

Hotels were 1 star. No air conditioner, old, dated, some had no stairs others were just gross. Like drink some wine and fall in bed so you don’t notice the grunge. It seemed unorganized and chaotic. Not enough variety. The included meals had no choice. We usually ended up having to pay out of pocket for meals after the free ones. The only redeeming quality was the coach driver.

Customer service is terrible. I have been calling for 2 weeks with insane amount of time on hold just to be disconnected. I have emailed numerous times with the exact tour that I would like to book with no return email.
