Serbia Attractions & Landmarks Guide

Serbia, formerly part of now-defunct Yugoslavia, is a Balkan land of mountains, minarets, medieval monasteries, museums, and manor houses. For variety, toss in fortresses, ski resorts, old but now-modern cities (the capital, Belgrade, is known for its nightlife), ancient villages, archaeological sites, and welcoming people, who love to eat, drink and enjoy themselves.

Serbian Cuisine

Serbian cuisine is influenced by many surrounding regions and is full of meat heavy dishes. Below are some of the best dishes you should definitely try while visiting Serbia.

Pljeskavica: Known as the ‘Serbian hamburger’, Pljeskavica, is a type of grilled meat. While compared to a western hamburger, Pljeskavica is bigger and known to be better. It is stuffed with cheese and definitely worth a try if you’re craving a big meal.

Riblja corba: A spicy soup, this dish is full of river fish. However, it is best to note this isn’t for those with a low tolerance for spicy foods. It’s one of the hottest dishes in the entire country!

Sarma: This dish is made up of sour cabbage leaves filled with minced meat. This is an iconic Serbian dish and a must try for anyone visiting the country.

Cevapi: Another iconic dish, Cevapi is finger-sized minced meat. It is often served with chopped onions.

Belgrade
