Getting To Lake Como

To decide which mode of transportation you are going to use you first need to decide your base point. Being the third largest lake in Italy, Lake Como is so large with various charming villages that you can't visit it all in one day. So you need to decide on a base point where you are going to land and stay during your Lake Como Italy tours. The best way to go to Lake Como is through Milan, the closest town at just 50 miles distance.

You cannot land directly near Lake Como but you can in one of Milan's three airports. The Malpensa airport is the largest international airport in Milan and closest to the lake. The airport receives numerous flights from all over the world and also have shuttle services to take you to the town of Como directly from the airport.

You can also go for the railway option to travel from Milan to Como. Two railway lines connect Como to Milan. The two train lines depart from Milan Centrale or Porta Garibaldi and reach the Como S. Giovanni station, located at about a 10-minute walk from the beautiful lake. The difference between the two routes trains is in their time and the frequency of stops they make along the way.

Trains from Milan Centrale do not make many stops on the way but they have fewer departures compared to those coming from Porta Garibaldi. The trains coming from Porta Garibaldi take double the time compared to the other ones as they make quite a lot of stops on the way.

Go check out the Trenitalia app or Trenitalia website for details regarding timings and routes, etc. You can also buy your tickets online from the site or can get them at the station. In each case, don’t forget to validate your tickets before riding. No advance booking is required as there are a lot of departures.

Bus service from Milan to Como is also available but they are very slow and it is better to go for trains instead.

The easiest way to travel to Lake Como is by car if you can drive internationally and have a license. Rent a car from Milan and get to the lake enjoy all the scenes on the way. You can pick up the pace and can stop on the way to take pictures etc. Keep GPS along to track your way. Roads close to the lake, off the highway, are narrow and windier. The roads are not good near the lake but the views are incredible and will never let anyone forget their first experience of the Lake Como Italy tours.

Day Trips From Lake Como

The beautiful lake has a large area with various amazing villages along the bank. You can choose a base town and plan your day trips to all other places, enjoy the magnificent views of the lake. You can hop between the various beautiful towns and villages through the well-maintained ferry service of the Lake Como.

You can get the tickets and information about the daily schedule from the terminal. Bus service is also available to connect the man towns with smaller towns along the lake.

1. Bellagio

The most famous town of Lake Como, Bellagio is located at the center point where both arms of the lake are meeting. Most itineraries use Bellagio as a base on Lake Como tours due to its central location. Even if you are not staying here, the beautiful town is the perfect place to have a day trip.

Take a boat to the town and admire the stunning beauty on the way. There are narrow cobbled streets in the town that are built on steep slopes, lined with eateries, buildings, and shops, and are worth paying a visit. Hire a tourist train to have a short trip from the town.

2. Menaggio

The small beautiful village along the lakeside is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating points on the lake. In the warm months, it is busy with all kinds of water sports on the lake. It has a large swimming pool for the public with a private beach, 18 hole golf course and a mini-golf course to keep you occupied here.

3. Venna

The stunning village is one of the most attractive spots that should be included in all Lake Como Italy tours for sure. The cluster of gelato-colored houses around the small harbor, the convent of Villa Monastero, and the walled castle of Castello di Vezio are the things that make this place more popular

4. Lake Lugano

Hop on a bus from Menaggio (Central Lake Como) and set towards Lake Lugano. The one hour ride will give you the chance to have magnificent views. After enjoying your day at the lake, visit the town of Lugano with a big shopping center. Below the shopping center is a huge departmental store with a coffee bar and you can also get good tasty food at a reasonable price.

5. Tremezzo

The city gives you a chance to witness how the wealthy residents of Lake Como live. Most people go there to explore the beautiful gardens and the famous art exhibitions of the Villa Carlotta. The Grand Hotel Tremezzo is built in the Art Nouveau style hundreds of years ago and has a modern touch to its outlook that makes it worth visiting. Enjoy all the facilities during your luxurious trip.

Best Time To Visit Lake Como

The beautiful lake is famous for its Mediterranean sun and balmy temperatures and has a perfect climate not only to relax at the beach but to enjoy the water sports. Summertime is the most popular among tourists to plan their Lake Como Italy tours because it gives them the capacity to enjoy various activities like diving, swimming in the lake, etc.

Therefore you will see a huge crowd of people at that time. Winter is less popular among visitors of Lake Como as the temperatures get very low, falling to even below zero degrees at some cold nights. But some people love to enjoy the cold and snow, availing the opportunity to witness the stunning snow-covered lake and skiing at the resort in Piano di Bobbio, Valchiavenna or Monte Sighignola. Discounted offseason deals are another perk of visiting in winter.

However, the most recommended time to visit this magnificent natural region is during the shoulder season, from March to May and from September to November. The temperature is pleasant and you can enjoy fascinating natural views of the Lake and surrounding.

The blossoming trees and flowers of early spring, appealing look of color changing fall leaves and snow capped mountain peaks of autumn months are going to be your awestruck you for long. Less number of tourists, pleasant weather, more accommodation, and reasonable rates make this time ideal to plan Lake Como Tours.
