The ancient city of Petra is perhaps one of the most recognizable and visited sites in Jordan (owning much to it's prominent featuring in the third Indiana Jones movie). The Treasury entrance, carved straight into a rock face, is a truly spectacular site. Most Jordan tours include a visit to the famous site - try visiting at night for an unbelievable view when the pathway to the entrance is lit up with candles.
