Itinerary
Travel to the bottom of the Earth, and begin the adventure in the world’s southernmost city, Ushuaia. Capital of the Tierra Del Fuego Province, this city offers spectacular views out across the Beagle Channel for anyone willing to hike to the top of the steep streets. Enjoy an evening at some of the local haunts before departing tomorrow.
Set foot aboard your floating home for the next week, and commence the cruise through the waters of the beautiful Beagle Channel. This narrow passage of water cuts through the islands of Tierra del Fuego and is a haven for local wildlife like penguins, cormorants and albatross.
Follow the beckoning horizon and settle in to the relaxing nature of life at sea. With an expedition team of experts, enjoy their onboard presentations as the perfect introduction to the landscapes and habitats that await.
Explore the spectacular landscapes of the Falkland Islands and stay on the lookout for some of the local birdlife. With such a rich diversity of flora and fauna, ‘Les Islas Malvinas’ are a southern paradise.
Sail across the Antarctic Convergence and enter the polar waters for the first time. Listen to expert presentations to prepare for the upcoming shore landings.
Arrive at the remote island of South Georgia and gaze up at the jagged mountains that rise straight from the ocean towards the heavens. Follow in the footsteps of Sir Ernest Shackleton, hiking the inhospitable, rocky crags and mountains around the island, or visit the old whaling station where he met with rescue.
Continue south towards the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula, and make the most of the ongoing presentations and lectures provided by the expedition team.
Cross into the Antarctic Peninsula, where a myriad of potential adventures are available. Depending on weather conditions, why not take the ‘polar plunge’ into the frigid waters of Paradise Bay, or visit a pebbled beach and wait for the curious penguins to approach.
Prepare for the notorious waters of the Drake Passage, where the massive flow of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current travels, unimpeded by land, around the entire latitude.
After a shipboard breakfast, we’ll transfer you to the airport for your flight home. When booking your flight please remember that delays can occur, so we recommend not booking a flight before about midday.

The Intrepid Travel Experience
If you’re looking for adventure, you’ve come to the right place. For the past 25 years, we’ve been taking small groups of travelers on unforgettable trips around the world. What makes them unforgettable? Take a look for yourself and discover the Intrepid experience.
Our travelers have three styles of tour to choose from: Basix, Original and Comfort. Each has a different level of inclusions and accommodation, but all have unforgettable real life experiences as part of the package. Travellers can also choose themed trips, such as Family, Sailing or Food, to suit their interests.
Our group size has an average of just ten travellers, which allows us to get off the beaten track, use local accommodation and transport, and really get to know the culture. It also ensures we are contributing to the local economy; by choosing local suppliers we were able to keep AUD 60 million in local economies in 2012. We’re also working hard to reduce our carbon footprint and were the first in our sector to introduce carbon offset trips. This, along with our many corporate sustainability activities, has meant we’re one of the travel industry’s leaders in responsible travel.
Why Intrepid?
- Small groups - average of 10 people per trip
- Sustainability - pioneers for the industry
- Local leaders - authentic perspectives
- Local transport - get close and personal
- Local accommodation - experience real living
- Intrepid travelers - like-minded companions
History
Intrepid Travel has come a long way since its beginnings in 1989. From two university friends, a typewriter and a kitchen desk, it is now a proud member of The Intrepid Group, taking over 100,000 travelers every year.
Intrepid Travel is part of The Intrepid Group of companies, alongside leading small group adventure companies Peregrine, Urban Adventures and PEAK DMC.
Despite growing into a global business with over 1,000 staff based all over the world and over 800 different trips across every continent, we’ve remained devoted to the same grassroots values and responsible travel philosophies that we had at the very beginning.
Values
On every trip we operate and in every interaction we have with a client, supplier or local, we live our core values everyday:

- Responsible – Think global, act local
- Growth – Stakeholders in our own success
- Innovation – Thriving on new ideas and embracing change
- Fun – It’s engrained into who we are and what we do

Style descriptions
Comfort is your style of travel if you want the whole grassroots experience with more inclusions, meals and creature comforts. While accommodation is predominantly tourist class (3-4 star), on some itineraries there is the opportunity to stay with a local family, spend the night on a train or camp out in exotic places (without putting up your own tent of course). Along the way, you'll really experience the destination up close. You'll mingle with locals, enjoy a taste of their way of life and gain special insights from your leader. This is not luxury travel, but real world experiences - just with a softer landing!
