Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Santiago, Chile

Meals: Dinner

Accommodation: The Ritz-Carlton, Santiago

Arrive in Santiago, the charming capital city of Chile, where you are met by an A&K representative and transferred to your hotel, and enjoy a guaranteed early check-in. This afternoon, remain at leisure to relax or explore the city on your own. At 6:00 p.m., gather for a welcome briefing led by your A&K Resident Tour Director. Afterward, enjoy dinner at the hotel’s elegant Estró Restaurant.

Day 2: Santiago | Taste the Renowned Fruit of Chile’s Vines

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Accommodation: The Ritz-Carlton, Santiago

This morning, embark on a city tour that offers a complete look at Santiago’s most important areas along with beautiful panoramic views. Drive to the Mercado Central to view this colorful local marketplace before taking a short walk to Plaza de Armas, the city’s most famous square. Gaze at the beautiful surrounding buildings, including the impressive Metropolitan Cathedral. Nearby, enjoy a tour of the Museum of Pre-Columbian Art. Next, depart the city for a look at the local wine district, viewing Palacio de La Moneda, seat of the President of the Republic of Chile, along the way. Chilean wines have come to prominence in recent years, owing to their exceptional character. This results from several factors, including the ideal combination of sunny days, cool nights and excellent soil in Chile’s long Central Valley. Visit an acclaimed family-owned winery for a private sampling, and to learn about Chilean cuisine during a Chef’s Table experience. After lunch, return to your luxurious hotel where your evening is at leisure.

Day 3: Frutillar/Puerto Varas | Legacy of German Settlers

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Cumbres Puerto Varas

After an early breakfast, fly to Puerto Montt, gateway to the gorgeous Chilean Lakes District. Journey overland to Frutillar, a charming village established by Chile’s first German settlers. Observe how their influence remains in the gardens and architecture, and enjoy breathtaking views of Osorno Volcano. Tour the German Colonial Museum with its exhibition of a settler’s house and possessions dating to the 1850s. Next, transfer to Puerto Varas, a town that also exemplifies the German influence in this part of Chile, with its architecture reminiscent of the Black Forest. After a light lunch at a local restaurant, continue to Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park to visit Petrohué Falls and view its aquamarine rapids. Later, arrive at your hotel on the shores of Lake Llanquihue overlooking Volcano Osorno. Enjoy dinner at the superb hotel restaurant.

Day 4: Puerto Varas | Island Villages and Active Sea Life

Accommodation: Cumbres Puerto Varas

Travel to Pargua Bay, where you Ride Like a Local by ferry boat to San Antonio de Chacao, a colorful village on Chiloé Island, settled by the Spanish in 1565. Proceed to Puñihuil, a fishing village with a beautiful beach for watching Magellanic and Humboldt penguins as well as a wide variety of sea birds and marine mammals, such as dolphins and sea otters, as they cavort around four islets that form a national monument. Enjoy a lunch of delightful regional dishes at a local restaurant before returning to Puerto Varas.

Day 5: Puerto Varas | Cruise a Chilean Lake

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Llao Llao Hotel & Resort

Begin your full-day journey through the Lake District, rewarded by panoramic views of deep blue mountain lakes, snow-capped volcanoes and ancient forests. Day 6: Bariloche | A Visit to “Little Switzerland”

Meals: Breakfast

Accommodation: Llao Llao Hotel & Resort

Today, tour the postcard-perfect Alpine region many call “Little Switzerland.” Hike the surrounding scenic woodlands, and then visit a local brewery. Beautiful flowers, ferns, tropical plants, butterflies and exotic birds add to the Throat,” where you walk onto a catwalk that extends 1,300 yards over the lush tropical basin of Devil’s Gorge. Dine at your hotel this evening.

Day 8: Iguazu Falls | Up Close to the Powerful Cascades

Accommodation: Belmond Hotel das Cataratas

Today, explore the Brazilian side of the falls, walking with your guide through the National Park of Iguazu to experience the incredible power of millions of barrels of falling water, as you move within arm’s length of the rumbling cataracts. This spectacular natural wonder, which was formed by a volcano, is comprised of 275 separate cascades spilling over a basalt cap nearly two miles across. We started planning our South Africa and Kenya Safaris 2 years in advance and could never get our questions answered by A&K representatives. The piles and piles of traveler information that A&K sent us was old and a lot of it incorrect. TAUCK customers that we talked to were taken care of. We were not. Our trip to Robben Island in Cape Town was never booked and we have not received a refund. A&K would not tell us our flight information for all the planes within Africa we were taking. We always travel first class yet they booked economy for us and then wanted to charge us change fees and penalties when we tried to change to first class which was available. We bought first class tickets but A&K will not refund the ticket price. If the trip were free, I would not travel with them again

We took the Singapore & Malaysia Tapestry of cultures. It was a Marco Polo tour which is supposed to be their best and a small group. There were 13 of us and we all agreed this would be our last trip with them. This was billed as a foodie experience and the places they took us were awful. Experiences like a special mahjong class touted as an A&K exclusive experience vanished. The A&K representative apologized at the end of our trip saying he knew this was not the trip we expected. Since we didn't receive events as stated in the description we requested that they give use partial refund. Everyone on the tour complained to A&K in detail about everything that went wrong. We were offered $1000 toward another trip. This is not a way to treat repeat customers.

Recently traveled throughout Japan coordinated by A & K. Two couples, paid $4k per day for excursions alone (hotel not included). Experience FAR below what one would expect for this fee. Lunch at a food court in a mall. Nothing unique or helpful to elevate the experience. Booking the activities ourself would have cost less than half the total fee we paid. Guides were pleasant but certainly not insightful or highly knowledgable. Called A & K and spoke with Julie Skrei, director of sales, to explain our experience. She was highly defensive and rude. I would caution you strongly about using this company for any travel. Looked online and they actually rank 1.8 out of 5 stars on Yelp with similar experiences described there. Wish I had read those before agreeing to using their service.

We did a private tour of Peru with A&K for our 30th wedding anniversary. It was truly remarkable. The attention to detail, sites we visited, hotels we stayed at and meals were absolutely fantastic. From the moment we arrived at the airport to the moment dropped off at the end of our tour we were made to feel special. Fantastic guide who told us the history and showed us the parts other tours miss. Highly recommended

Wings over Mediterranean Sept 2022. Other than the intra-city flights which were first class private jet, the rest was......average. Tour buses with windows too small to see any passing points of interest. A 250 sq ft "luxury" hotel room---thought I was in a Motel 8. Museum tours led by local experts who over-talked so long that they cut into anything that was planned for the remainder of that day. Restaurants....3 in particular very small, crowded, and not even remotely above average. Written itinerary says "and then return to your host city and enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your leisure." No way...we usually got back to the hotel around 5:30 after already passing up at least one planned exhibit. We had no special tour group privileges...we were just part of the pack and were overrun by tourists at every stop. $40,000 per person....a big huge "ouch"

We took the A & K Small Group Tour to Rome, Florence & Venice. The experience exceeded expectations! Wonderful itinerary (with the ability to flex to the group's unique needs & requests!). Our guide (Emmanuela) was exceptional! Fun, extremely organized, considerate of all group members & always making sure that we had a 5-Star experience. Highly recommend this company (& this tour) - we will travel with A & K again!
