Soak up the faded colonial air and architectural charms of Nicaragua's oldest city, strolling its quiet cobblestone streets and timeworn plazas.
Travel on to enigmatic Leon, a city where horse-drawn carts still trot the streets and pop-up food stalls hawk their delicacies. Perhaps set out on a day hike up to the smouldering volcano peak of Telica volcano or head for a dip in the dark, cool waters of Asososca Crater Lake.
Cruise out to the volcanic twin peaks of Omotepe Island. The island's nutrient-rich volcanic ash makes for some extremely lush vegetation. Visit a local coffee cooperative to taste the fruits of its soil or take a plunge in the emerald waters of Ojo de Agua.
Despite its expanding international airport and handy proximity to the incredible beaches of the Guanacaste province, Liberia is more than just a convenient travel hub. With its old whitewashed colonial buildings, sweet mango trees and pretty magnolias, the city has its own charm and a certain charisma. Enjoy some free time exploring the city.

Our travelers have three styles of tour to choose from: Basix, Original and Comfort. Each has a different level of inclusions and accommodation, but all have unforgettable real life experiences as part of the package. Travellers can also choose themed trips, such as Family, Sailing or Food, to suit their interests.
Our group size has an average of just ten travellers, which allows us to get off the beaten track, use local accommodation and transport, and really get to know the culture. It also ensures we are contributing to the local economy; by choosing local suppliers we were able to keep AUD 60 million in local economies in 2012. We’re also working hard to reduce our carbon footprint and were the first in our sector to introduce carbon offset trips. This, along with our many corporate sustainability activities, has meant we’re one of the travel industry’s leaders in responsible travel.

Intrepid Travel has come a long way since its beginnings in 1989. From two university friends, a typewriter and a kitchen desk, it is now a proud member of The Intrepid Group, taking over 100,000 travelers every year.

While travelling with us you'll experience the vast array of wonderful food available in the world. Your group leader will be able to suggest restaurants to try during your trip. To give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat, generally not all meals are included in the trip price. This also gives you more budgeting flexibility. As a rule our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. There's no obligation to do this though.

Our Original style trips have a great balance of included activities with your group and free time to explore independently. Where we stay ensures we keep our travellers firmly entrenched in a region’s people and culture, and provides them with unique local experiences that benefits the community too. In most locations we stay in simple tourist-class hotels (i.e. 2-3 stars), plus on many trips you'll also get to experience a night with a local family on a homestay or something a little different like a Bedouin camp in the Sahara. Original style trips come with all manner of transport modes and use a mixture of local and private transport. You might find yourself sailing in a dhow in Zanzibar, jumping on a rickshaw in Sri Lanka or sailing on a yacht through the Galapagos. No matter the mode, it's all about minimising our environmental impact and making getting around part of the adventure.
