Being on the Mediterranean makes Naples a bit warmer throughout the year, except during the winter months. Summers are hot, winters are cold but pleasant and spring and autumn are ideal to pay a visit.
Summertime, June to August, is very hot, with high temperatures and high humidity levels. The average temperature is 19 to 29-degree centigrade. People usually like to spend their time in the cold breeze on the coast.
The temperature starts to fall from September till November before the winter starts. Days are pleasant with an average temperature of 15 to 21-degree centigrade. However, expect more rain and be prepared for unexpected shoes.
Wintertime, between December to February, becomes cold with temperatures ranging between 3 to 10-degree centigrade. Beach is out of the question. Remember to cover yourself properly with an extra layer. This time is usually low with tourist but it gets crowded again around the holiday time.
It starts becoming pleasant again in March and the weather remains pleasant till May. Temperatures range between 15 to 21-degree centigrade which makes it an ideal time to roam about in the region and explore the beautiful sites.
The historical city of Pompeii is located at a distance of just 16.6 miles from Naples that makes it a perfect destination for a day trip from Naples. The tour of this excavated city will take you back in time and you will genuinely get a feel of the ancient Roman life. The best way to travel between Naples and Pompeii is by train.
The Circumvesuviana train from central Naples station will take you to Pompeii. Get down at the Pompeii Scavi train station that is just a five-minute walk from the site entrance. Get the ticket from the train station. No advance booking is required as the train leaves every 30 minutes.
If you want to avoid the huge crowd in the Napoli Centrale then you can ride from Piazza Nolana station at an 8-minute walk from the main station. All trains depart from here as well and you are more likely to get a seat of your choice.
Get your tickets from the Pompeii entrance. Don’t bring any luggage with you as you are not allowed to take luggage to the Pompeii site. If you have brought something important, leave it in the storage facility at the Pompeii Scavi station.
Take a map from the entrance that will help you a lot to explore the ancient Roman ruins. Do bring the proper amount of water and sunscreen as you are going to explore the city with very little shade points.
Springtime is most appropriate to visit Naples. From mid-March to early June, the weather is pleasant and the huge crowds of tourists have yet to arrive, as most people prefer to visit the place during summer vacation time.
You can get almost everything at a reasonable price and can enjoy the nearly empty sites in the pleasant weather. October and November are also pleasant with lower crowds and cheaper rates but if you visit during this time, be prepared for unexpected rainfall.
Mid-June to mid-September and then mid-December to early January are high seasons and there are huge crowds of tourists throughout the place. Avoid these times if you want to enjoy the place freely and comfortably. Rates are also high during this time.
Winter is the low time when everyone has gone back to their home, except for the holiday time. The weather is colder but you may get discounts at various facilities including accommodation.

1. San Gennaro Catacombs

7. Piazza del Plebiscito
