Optional Activities
Open Air Ethnographic Museum Visit the open-air Ethnographic Museum that depicts 18th century farm life. This unique museum is set on 100 hectares of land on the outskirts of Riga, in a pine forest on the banks of the Jugla Lake. The over 72 historic structures including farmhouses, windmills, fishing villages, churches and other historic structures have been rebuilt and preserved here to re-create a proper village preserved from this era. Costumed actors show daily life from bygone days along with music and dance and craftsmen demonstrate various tasks -- you’ll feel as if you’ve gone back in time. Departs at 2:00 pm. Pick-up details to be advised locally. Approximate tour duration is 3.5 hours. OnDay : 5 Price : $39 KGB Museum Begin your sightseeing of Vilnius with a riveting visit to the infamous KGB Museum, located in the heart of Vilnius, used as a top security prison from 1940 to 1989. The extensive photo exhibits and intact secret KGB spying equipment aids you in envisioning imprisonment in these cold, damp and narrow cells. For Lithuanians, this museum symbolizes the 50-year Soviet occupation, site of the Gestapo headquarters and later the control of the KGB. Departs at 3:00 pm. Pick-up details to be advised locally. Approximate tour duration is 2.5 hours. OnDay : 6 Price : $27 Excursion to Trakai Castle Afternoon tour to red brick Trakai Castle on Galve Lake, regally standing on an island by itself completely surrounded by water. This is truly such a beautiful sight and one you’ll always remember. The castle is furnished with an excellent collections of armor, furniture and decorative objects. Keep your camera ready -- Trakai Castle is one of the most photographed places in Europe. This historic and world-famous Gothic Palace was built by Lithuanian Dukes and once served as their residence. Time to stroll the grounds and visit the Palace Museum to see the extensive display of medieval exhibits before returning to Vilnius. Departs at 2:00 pm. Pick-up details to be advised locally. Approximate tour duration is 3 hours. OnDay : 7 Price : $45 Chopin Concert It was the genius of Frederic Chopin that made Poland's music world famous. The Mazurkas, Etudes, Polonaises and Scherzos became a test and measure of any pianist's talent. Enjoy a Chopin piano recital, performed just for you in a setting fit for a king. A glass of champagne is served during intermission. Departs at 6:20 pm. Pick-up details to be advised locally. Approximate tour duration is 2.5 hours. OnDay : 9 Price : $60 Wilanow Palace This splendid baroque palace, as impressive as Versailles, was built in the late 17th century as a summer residence for King Jan Sobieski III and owned later by very important Polish noble families. The main building, consisting of 3 wings, housed the oldest museum established in Poland in 1805 to preserve the memory of the Sobieski family and represent spectacular national history moments of the time, including the Battle of Vienna in 1683 against the Ottoman Empire. The residence complex extended by large gardens and lake-side promenade, fortunately avoided deeper destruction in 1939-1945. After detailed renovations in 2010 and 2011, Wilanow Palace presents its valuable collection of royal furniture, portraits and china. Departs at 2:00 pm. Pick-up details to be advised locally. Approximate tour duration is 3 hours. OnDay : 9 Price : $45
