Itinerary
Every year 25,000 people attempt to climb the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro. Before joining them in this endeavour, get used to the Tanzanian altitude in beautiful Moshi. Perhaps savour a meal of African pilou and chapatti - the perfect way to say "jambo" to Tanzania.
Take a scenic drive from Marangu to Lemosho Glades. From the trailhead, stroll through beautiful forests uphill towards the camp, situated at 2,800 m.
Embark on a short hike through the forest before emerging into the moorlands. Beautiful and rugged, this rolling path will lead to a camp by the stream. This is the Shira One campsite, situated at 3,500 m.
Journey uphill to reach the Shira Two hut at 3,800 m. If you’re up for a little more hiking in the afternoon, climb to Shira Cathedral or Shira Needle, otherwise rest your legs and enjoy a cup of tea with a scenic view. If venturing to the centre of an extinct volcano sounds alluring, there are options to hike to Cope Place too.
Tackle the steep ascent directly towards Mount Kibo, where the highest point of the day will be around the 4,600 m mark. Despite the challenging uphill terrain, the beautiful surrounding forests and spectacular scenic ridge along the way are awe-inspiring. After an exhausting walking day, spend the night at a Barranco camp on the valley floor.
Make the short yet sharp climb up the famed Barranco Wall, which leads to an undulating trail on the south-eastern flank of Kibo. This area provides superb vistas of the southern ice fields, so have a camera handy. Spend the night in a campsite directly overlooking the glaciers and take in the spectacular views.
Climb out of the Varranco Valley on your way past the Barranco wall. Another day of legging it uphill will be richly rewarded with more glacial views and scenic mountain vistas.
Wake early and enjoy a warm cup of tea before embarking on the most challenging and, in turn, rewarding portion of the trek. Hike to Stella Point, 5,750 m, then continue on to Uhuru Peak. This is the highest summit on Kibo’s crater rim and offers incredible views as t...
Complete this incredible journey with a stroll to the Mweka Gate before indulging in a hot shower and a soft bed at the hotel in Moshi.

Tour Operator
It’s been more than 36 years since our first small group set out to discover Nepal. It’s this heritage and our reputation that keeps travellers coming back time and time again.
We appeal to the well-travelled, discerning traveller. The one who chooses value over price, and wants to immerse themselves in a place instead of just ticking landmarks off a bucket list. The type of person who would rather stay in a family run B&B built in a 16th century Venetian convent than a forgettable hotel. We’re for travellers who want inclusions along the way instead of fiddling around for loose change.
Almost 20 years ago, Peregrine led an industry revolution by solely employing locally born leaders. This innovative approach gives our travellers a deeper insight into the countries they visit. Doorways are opened and a true understanding of the place is fostered.
At Peregrine, we travel in intimate groups and take the time to get under the skin of a destination. Of course we all want to see the Taj Mahal in India. But imagine then heading to a remote Rajasthani village and learning about rural life while in the company of locals. Seeing the famous sites is a must, but it’s often the memory of wandering through a small village or sharing dinner with a local family that will leave a lasting impact.
We promise to share our knowledge and expertise with you, and ensure you will come home with stories you will tell for years to come.

Style descriptions
Comfort is your style of travel if you want the whole grassroots experience with more inclusions, meals and creature comforts. While accommodation is predominantly tourist class (3-4 star), on some itineraries there is the opportunity to stay with a local family, spend the night on a train or camp out in exotic places (without putting up your own tent of course). Along the way, you'll really experience the destination up close. You'll mingle with locals, enjoy a taste of their way of life and gain special insights from your leader. This is not luxury travel, but real world experiences - just with a softer landing!
