Overview

Short Description

Thailand is a renowned beach destination, but our specialists know there’s far more to it than its palm-fringed sands. Having journeyed the breadth of the country, they can advise you on the best places to visit, based on your preferences, to get the most out of your holiday to Thailand.

Inland, you’ll find temples in the shape of Isaan’s Khmer complexes and the UNESCO-protected ancient capital of Siam at Sukhothai as well as, from more recent history, the Bridge on the River Kwai. National parks foster elephants and gibbons, and hills preserve rich tribal cultures. There are also the cities, which provide a route into exploring Thailand’s food, such as the street markets in Chiang Mai and cooking classes in Bangkok. Along the coast, you’ll find sleepy villages where you can watch local fishermen bringing in the day’s catch, while limestone islands rising from the sea make the focal points for rewarding cruises.

Itinerary

Day 1 : International outbound flight

Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Bangkok.

Day 2 : Bangkok

After being welcomed by your guide at Bangkok Airport, take a private transfer to your hotel. The Anantara Bangkok Riverside Hotel is a great hotel to start your trip with good facilities and a lovely setting on the banks of the Chao Phrya River.

Day 3 : Bangkok

A private guided tour of Bangkok is a great introduction to Thailand today. Visit the capital's key attractions: the Grand Palace, Wat Po (home to the reclining Buddha) and Jim Thompson's house. Try out Bangkok's different forms of public transport - the Skytrain which winds its way through the skyscrapers and shopping malls, the public taxi boat, a long-tail boat and of course the infamous Thai tuk tuk. This is a fun excursion that gives you a fantastic insight into the capital as well as the people that call Bangkok home. As this is a private tour, your guide is able to go at a pace that suits your family.

Day 4 : Kanchanaburi

Your guide collects you from your hotel this morning for your private transfer to Kanchanaburi, a journey of about two and a half hours. This area is renowned for its time during the 2nd World War when Allied POWs were used by the Japanese to build the Burma-Thailand Railway. Gain an insight into this history with a private guided tour of the main points of interest: the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre, the infamous Bridge On The River Kwai and Hell Fire Pass. The tour includes a boat journey up the River Kwai and a train journey on the infamous Death Railway. In the evening, relax in your river camp's beautiful setting. The Hintok River Camp is a great place for families with comfortable, safari-style tents. Breakfast and dinner is included in your stay.

Day 5 : Kanchanaburi

Experience one of Thailand's most magnificent creatures today with a shared tour at Elephant's World, an elephant sanctuary that looks after old, sick, handicapped and rescued elephants. The sanctuary's motto is 'we humans work for the elephants, they will not work for us' - experience this for yourself as you spend the day looking after them: feeding, bathing and preparing their food.

Day 6 : Bangkok

The morning is at leisure. You may like to relax in the camp's rock pool by the River Kwai, use your camp's complimentary mountain-bikes or visit the beautiful falls at the Erawan National Park.Your guide collects you for your private transfer to Bangkok, assisting you to catch the overnight sleeper train to Chiang Mai, located in the north of Thailand. The train journey should take 12 hours however trains in Thailand are notorious for being late so this could extend by two to four hours.

Day 7 : Chiang Mai

Meet your waiting guide at the train station in Chiang Mai who accompanys you and your family on your private transfer to your hotel. After settling into your hotel you have the rest of your day at leisure. Late afternoon is a great time to visit Chiang Mai's most famous land-mark: the temple of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. This is one of Thailand's most important temples and has fantastic views of the city. In the evening you may like to visit the city's famous night bazaar.

Day 8 : Chiang Mai

Today you and your family get a fantastic experience into Thai life as you and your family are collected by a local man to visit him and his family at their home. During your stay learn how to cook authentic Northern Thai flavours and enjoy a home-cooked lunch with the family.

Day 9 : Chiang Mai

Meet your guide this morning for your private cycling and kayaking adventure. The tour starts about one hour's drive from Chiang Mai in the lovely Sri Lanna National Park. The bike ride is a scenic 15-20 km (10 - 13 miles) ride and the kayaking takes place on a lake, passing jungle-clad hills to a small village of floating houses. Traditional Thai lunch is included at the village and afterwards you can relax in the village, go for a swim or explore further in your kayaks before you are taken back to your hotel by boat and road.

Day 10 : Koh Samui

The beach part of your holiday starts today. Your guide is on hand to accompany you on your private transfer to the airport for your direct flight to Koh Samui. The flight takes 1 hour 45 minutes. After being met upon arrival, take a private transfer to your lovely small boutique resort nestled in tropical gardens and overlooking emerald waters and the white sands of Maenam Beach.

Day 11 : Koh Samui

Today is free to relax, or explore the island. The Belmond Napasi has fantastic facilities for you and your family to enjoy, these include an infinity pool, children's pool, spa, tennis courts and a range of water sports.

Day 12 : Koh Samui

The Belmond Napasi offers daily complimentary activities for its guests which we would suggest making the most of. These include wind-surfing, paddle-boarding, bicycle tours, Hobie Cats and an assortment of classes e.g. in massages, fruit and vegetable carving, and tennis.

Day 13 : Koh Samui

Another day free to explore. A popular tour that you might like to consider is a speedboat ride to the nearby Angthong National Marine Park. This beautiful park consists of 42 islands and provided the inspiration for Alex Garland's book "The Beach".

Day 14 : Koh Samui

Today is your last day by the beach before heading home. With calm waters, the beach is ideal for younger children to try for the first time, or for more advanced trips, guided snorkeling tours are available.

Day 15 : International return flight

Depart from the hotel this morning for your private transfer to the local airport for your onwards flight. Your return flight will arrive the same day.

We were looking for a special holiday to celebrate my wife's birthday and bumped into Audley Travel early 2023 at the Travel Show in Olympia. We gave their south east Asia specialist, Dan Pullen, a list of ideas which after several iterations resulted in an outline travel plan involving four countries over 24 days.
We were very impressed with the professionalism of the company, their knowledge of the area and the proposed travel plan. The resulting holiday proved to be very successful, extremely well organised and managed at a country level by very experienced and competent guides and drivers.

We had the most incredible two weeks in South Africa, organised by Robyn Hutchons. From the very beginning we were so well looked after by Robyn, who was responsive, full of good insider tips for South Africa, and took the time to listen to what we hoped to get out of our holiday. She designed a tailored itinerary that was perfect for us. We felt so well looked after, and it made the whole trip a stress-free experience.

It was very helpful to catch up with Robyn when we got back so we could feedback and make some small suggestions for things we might have tweaked. Would 100% recommend using Audley, worth every penny and we will definitely be using them in future.

Our holiday was quite complex with multiple greetings and pickup with representatives, drivers and guides. Everything went without a hitch. Everything was where we expected it to be and linked up perfectly.
The choice of accommodation was so well planned. We stayed in 8 different locations. Each one was superb and offered something different to the ones before.
The tours were well thought out and offered more than just sightseeing. They also gave us a taste of the culture of India.
Excellent.

Had a wonderful trip to Vietnam, Cambodia and Bangkok. Jack Tydeman was our agent and he was excellent; listened to our needs/wants, put together a really detailed itinerary and everything went completely smoothly. We would've changed a couple things but 95% of our trip was perfect! Jack followed up when we returned home and took notes of a couple of areas that we would have changed. I would definitely recommend Audley!

A fabulous two week trip to Thailand designed and organised by Suzi Smith from Audley more than lived up to expectations. Our only regret in hindsight was not extending the planned time so we could have spent longer in the Chaing Mai Bush Camp which was just awesome. Special mention needs to go to Spooky, our Audley guide in Bangkok. If you are lucky enough for her to be looking after you then you know you will have a wonderful time. The advantage of having Audley Travel as your agent is that you know you have the best professionals on your team. I can truly recommend them.

Spoke to 2 different consultants about awesome trip to Mexico. Both promised to provide quotes within a week. I never heard from either of them again. I've no idea why the didn't want me as a customer but whatever the reason their approach was highly unprofessional and very bad manners. If younhaventhe choice avoid them at all costs.
