Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Athens

Put the 'oh' in opa and embark on an unforgettable exploration of an ancient land of gods and goddesses, myths and legends. Your springboard to your spellbinding holiday is the vibrant capital of Athens, an effortless mix of ancient treasures and modern verve, which you will have an opportunity to explore after being transferred to your hotel. This evening, join your Travel Director and travel companions for a Welcome Reception, including a light meal and welcome drink.

Day 2: Explore Amazing Athens

Join your Local Specialist for a guided morning sightseeing tour to the ancient complex that was once the 'Cradle of Western Civilisation'. Along our journey into antiquity, we'll have an opportunity to explore the Acropolis with its treasures and admire the Parthenon, dedicated to the goddess Athena, the Royal Palace, Temple of Zeus and the Agora, once the haunt of Socrates and Plato. Dive Into Culture and see remarkable displays of an ancient world during an included visit to the Acropolis Museum, and see Hadrian's Arch and the stadium where the first modern Olympics took place in 1896. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy on your own. Stroll through the Plaka, people-watch in Syntagma Square or go in search of the city's tastiest souvlaki – the choice is yours.

Day 3: Journey to Corinth, Mycenae and Nafplion

We depart Athens this morning, crossing the mighty Corinth Canal to the wild Peloponnesian Peninsula. Arriving in Corinth, we join a Local Specialist to explore an ancient city that several empires fought over throughout the centuries. We continue to Mycenae, a mighty kingdom of Ancient Greece, where we'll see the Beehive Tombs, (the Treasury of Atreus), the Lion Gate and the remains of Agamemnon's Royal Palace, in the company of a Local Specialist. Later, we'll travel to Epidaurus to visit the ancient theatre and view the Sanctuary of Asclepius, the God of Medicine, whose snake-entwined staff remains the symbol of medicine to this day. Arriving in the Venetian town of Nafplion later, we'll dine in our hotel this evening.

Day 4: Continue to Ancient Olympia

We traverse the Mountains of Arcadia to ancient Olympia, the site of the first Olympic Games held in 776 BC. This evening, we Connect With Locals joining the Karambellas family for dinner on their olive and wine farm at a Be My Guest experience featuring traditional dancing and characteristic Greek philoxenia.

Day 5: Onwards to Patras and Delphi

We join a Local Specialist this morning to delve into centuries of history. We'll visit the ancient Olympic site, the museum and the ruined remains of the Temples of Zeus and Hera. Leaving Olympia, we skirt the coastline north to Patras, crossing the Gulf of Corinth to mainland Greece before continuing to Delphi, our home for the night.

Day 6: Off to Thermopylae and Kalambaka

Tread in the footsteps of the ancient Greeks, who would descend on the sanctuary of Delphi to consult with the most important oracle in the classical world. Join your Local Specialist and walk the Sacred Way to the 4th-century Temple of Apollo. View the statues immortalising the strength of the athletes who once competed in the Pythian Games, held in honour of Apollo and the Arts. A scenic afternoon drive brings us to Thermopylae, famous for the heroic defence by Leonidas and his brave Spartans against the invading Persians. We cross the lush Thessaly region, the ‘breadbasket of Greece', then travel over the Pourmaraki Pass towards Kalambaka.

Day 7: Admire Meteora and Return to Athens

The UNESCO World Heritage monasteries of Meteora are our first stop today. Join a Local Specialist to visit two of the six Eastern Orthodox monasteries that cling impressively to immense, rounded rock towers overlooking the town. A scenic drive returns us to Athens, where we'll enjoy a rousing Farewell Dinner with our travel companions and reminisce over an incredible journey through Greece.

Day 8: Embark and Cruise to Stunning Mykonos

We depart Athens, boarding our ship to cruise the azure waters of the Aegean, bound for Mykonos. Spend the evening getting lost in its labyrinthine lanes lined by white-washed cottages and tumbling cerise bougainvillea.

Day 9: Continue to Ancient Ephesus and Patmos

Touch the Turkish coastline and visit the port of Kusadasi for a complimentary Shore Experience to the ancient city of Ephesus. We continue to Patmos later, where the Book of Revelations was written by St. John. Here, you could choose to visit the Cave of the Apocalypse and St. John's Monastery on an Optional Experience.

Day 10: A Day to Explore Beautiful Rhodes

The enchanting Old Town of Rhodes takes centre stage today as we walk in the footsteps of the medieval knights who conquered this land on our complimentary Shore Experience.

Day 11: Cruise to Crete and on to Santorini

We sail to Heraklion on the island of Crete, where we have the opportunity to delve into the centuries-old culture and heritage of the Minoans at the Palace of Knossos. Our final stop today is the beautiful volcanic island of Santorini with its cliff-top villages, where you might consider an optional Shore Experience to the sun-kissed village of Oia.

Day 12: Disembark in Athens

This morning, disembark from your cruise ship and board a transfer to your hotel.

Day 13: Journey Home

I just returned from Best of Scotland tour. This was my 4th trafalgar tour, but not the best one. Hotel in Edinburgh (first night) is old and run down. If you arrive a day early and want to go to old town Edinburgh, you cannot walk to it. You will need a car or take the bus. The hotel Craiglyyne in the Highlands had mold in my room. You could not only you smell it, but you could see it vividly in the bathtub/shower. I had to sleep with the windows open all night which made the room very cold since it was raining. The food was horrible. One night I ordered the salmon...gross it was a slice a salmon that had been boiled in water. Pork roast the other night was so tough I couldn't even cut it with a knife. Food was cold. Breakfast was stale cereal, a coffee machine that only worked sometimes, and eggs made with water. In Culloden, you only get 45 minutes to see the war memorial, hardly enough time to explore all of the battlefield, let alone if you have to use the restrooms. The ferry was canceled due to poor weather, so the travel director had the bus drive take us on a tour of the highlands, which was beautiful, but spending 10 hours on a bus ride is not fun. This tour would be better if it was extended a day and better hotel choices made by trafalgar.

They've lost my £10,000 at the first hurdle!

A potential customer in the process of booking a tour for nearly £10,000 with Trafalgar, who thankfully stopped before it was too late.

We had a few questions to ask before final completion of our booking, but this utterly USELESS company can't even provide a sales team to answer the phone or web chat in a timely and efficient manner. After several failed attempts to contact them I decided to look here on TrustPilot to see if I was just being unlucky, and WOW thank goodness I did! I note their customer service reviews have been consistently atrocious for a very long time, without any responses or comments from Trafalgar, and apparently without them taking any action to rectify their appalling performance.

Over the years I've found many companies with slick and efficient sales teams but poor after-sales, but Trafalgar appear not even to have a competent sales department! This defies any semblance of commercial logic. If they can't even afford to employ sales staff how can they expect to make sales and take any money? They have certainly failed to take mine. Just staggering incompetence at the very first encounter, so heaven knows how bad they would be thereafter, and I'm not waiting around to find out.

Many thanks to all here who have taken the trouble to write reviews. Looks like you have saved me a whole pile of grief.

We just finished The Best of Canada tour with Trafalgar and it was first class every day. Hotels were beautiful and located in great areas. Bus and driver were great. Tour director was the best! I would recommend them. And we,like others, had 2 trips canceled and we waited along with thousands of others for a refund. But we knew it was going to take time and patience is a wonderful thing! We will travel with them again.

Trafalgar cancelled our tour booking without our consent because I asked about if there was availability on another tour. Never did they mention that enquiring about another tour they cancel your existing booking. Now the tour is full and I have spent $18,000 on Qantas airfares and accom. Tour booked in Jan 2023 for Sept 2023 tour. Nobody takes responsible and nobody will call me to discuss. Family of 4 holiday ruined,.

Hotels were 1 star. No air conditioner, old, dated, some had no stairs others were just gross. Like drink some wine and fall in bed so you don’t notice the grunge. It seemed unorganized and chaotic. Not enough variety. The included meals had no choice. We usually ended up having to pay out of pocket for meals after the free ones. The only redeeming quality was the coach driver.

Customer service is terrible. I have been calling for 2 weeks with insane amount of time on hold just to be disconnected. I have emailed numerous times with the exact tour that I would like to book with no return email.
