Costa Rica Adventure Tours Tours & Travel Guide
Costa Rica is well known for its stunning natural views, biodiversity, and its exciting adventure activities. If you want to do more than just relax on your next vacation to Costa Rica, here are some of the types of excursions you can try out on a Costa Rica Adventure Tour.
Sportfishing. Get off land and into deep water for some of the best pelagic fishing in the world. Target sailfish, swordfish, mahi mahi, yellowfin tuna, and wahoo are typical targets.
River tubing. Travel through a fast-moving jungle river in your own tube. Keep your eyes open for wildlife as you whip through the forest!
Whitewater rafting. To experience some of Costa Rica’s Class V rapids, take to a larger craft and plummet down waterfalls, splash over rocks, and fly through the jungle.
Surfing. The best surfing in Costa Rica is along its North Pacific coast, one of the least populated regions of the country, which means you’ll have the beach to yourself. The Central Pacific coast is just as accessible, but has a bit more nightlife, so the choice is up to you,.
Scuba Diving. With dozens of islands, wrecks, and and innumerable tropical fish, sharks, turtles, dolphins, and rays, some of the best diving in the world can be found on Costa Rica’s Caribbean side.
Bungee jumping. There are multiple bungee jumping spots throughout Costa Rica, so whether you want to get your heart pumping with a typical jump off of a bridge, or mix things up and jump hundreds of feet down in the Monteverde Cloud Forest, Costa Rica has a spot for you.
Four Wheeling / Quad Tours. If you want to cover more distance and see as much of Costa Rica as you can in a fast pace, consider tackling your choice of Costa Rican terrain -- beach, jungle, mountain -- in a four wheeler.
Zipline canopy tours. By far the most popular adventure activity in Costa Rica, ziplining through the treetops is not only a thrill, but it provides a whole different look at the jungle ecosystem. Some of the best ziplining can be found in National Parks; Monteverde, Manuel Antonio, and Arenal’s parks all have world class zipline courses.
Canyoning / Waterfall rappelling. Explore the dramatic landscapes of Costa Rica’s jungle canyons and caves by directly rappelling down them, and through their waterfalls.
Hiking. Going on a grueling rainforest hike is another way to get your thrills in in Costa Rica, and some of the best are up and around Costa Rica's dormant and extinct volcanoes.
Costa Rica has a tropical climate and frequent rains across the country. As a result, your wardrobe should consist of lightweight, easily drying clothing that you can layer for cooler morning and evening activities.
As most Costa Rican adventure tours either consist of water activities, or give you time to do go swimming, you should pack a bathing suit a waterproof shoes (this is particularly important for those rafting or tubing).
Sunscreen and bug spray are two other things one should pack, as all Costa Rica adventure activities take place outside, and usually in the jungle. Another good item to bring would be a Go Pro or mounted camera -- these waterproof and hands free devices are allowed on nearly all of the activities listed above, and a good way to remember your trip.
