Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Arusha, Tanzania

Arrive in Arusha and transfer to your lodge, situated on a working coffee plantation. Your private chalet near Mount Meru features a log fireplace and a balcony.

Arusha Coffee Lodge

Day 2: Tarangire National Park | Design Your Day

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

This morning, begin your safari adventure by enjoying one of these Design Your Day activities:

Visit Ilboru Primary School, a project supported by A&K Philanthropy, to meet students facing special challenges.

Explore a Coffee Estate, walking the plantation to see how fine local coffee is grown, harvested, dried and produced.

Tour the Shanga Workshop with a Private Guide to learn about the handmade jewelry and homewares created there.

Return to your lodge for lunch, and then fly to Tarangire National Park, where open grasslands, acacia trees and the Tarangire River paint a wild landscape. This afternoon, set out on a game drive.

Sanctuary Swala

Day 3: Tarangire National Park | Abundant Game Viewing

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Today, enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in search of elands, oryxes, wildebeests and zebras as well as the park’s large elephant population. Keep your eyes trained for hartebeests, gazelles and exotic birds like the bateleur and martial eagle. Your local expert driver-guide draws on years of experience in the bush to locate the best wildlife-viewing opportunities right as they happen. This evening, you may choose an optional game drive by moonlight (at an additional cost). As dusk falls, relax in the comfort of your safari vehicle as you venture into the park, as it is transformed by night. Search for nocturnal animals rarely seen by visitors. Among the species you may encounter are an African wildcat or the elusive leopard, or you may feel the round eyes of a bush baby peering down at you. With specialized lighting, look for lions and hyenas, as well as smaller creatures such as spotted servals, bat-eared foxes and owls.

Sanctuary Swala

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater | Amphitheater of Animals

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Accommodation: Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp

As you cross the Great Rift Valley, stop to visit a market in Mto wa Mbu, where stalls brim with vibrant local produce. Then, see the village from a different perspective as you ride on a tuk-tuk, viewing the local community and rice fields as you go. Next, take a scenic drive to tranquil Gibb’s Farm, where you stop for a lunch made with organic, just-picked ingredients. Later, arrive at the natural amphitheater of Ngorongoro Crater, a 2,000-foot-deep caldera. A fascinating microcosm of East African wildlife — including buffalo, flamingos, lions and leopards – resides inside. Climb the outer wall, passing through dense vegetation until a breathtaking view across the crater floor appears. Arrive at your camp, nestled in a wooded area with easy access to the crater floor and featuring elegant, tented accommodations adorned with handwoven rugs, comfortable beds with crisp linens, and en suite bathrooms with flush toilets. Relax on your veranda to view the natural wonderland.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater | Explore A Natural Wildlife Haven

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Accommodation: Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp

This morning, descend into the crater, arriving ahead of most visitors — thanks to the closer proximity of your ideally located accommodations — to view the resident wildlife at its most active time of day. Take a break from game viewing to enjoy a picnic lunch, in a location apart from crowded picnic sites, as a symphony of wildlife sounds envelops you. This afternoon, visit with an elder at a Maasai village, where you learn about the tribe’s traditional, nomadic lifestyle and coexistence with wildlife. Sense the incomparable spirit of this pastoral, nomadic people who have kept their tribal traditions alive through countless generations of life in East Africa.

Day 6: Serengeti National Park | Searching The Vast Plains

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Accommodation: Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp

Fly to the fabled Serengeti National Park and settle into your remote and authentic camp. Then, set out on the boundless Serengeti, one of the oldest and least-changed ecosystems on earth, where the circle of life plays out every day. For a portion of each year, dictated by weather patterns and the unpredictable nature of wild animals, vast herds of wildebeests and zebras move through the Serengeti in search of grass and water as part of the year-round Great Migration cycle. This evening, sip a cocktail and reflect on the majesty of Africa during a relaxing sundowner experience.

Accommodations vary by departure date.  See Dates & Prices tab for details.

Day 7: Serengeti National Park | Where The Big Five Roam

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Accommodation: Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp

Venture out on morning and afternoon game drives in the protected Serengeti refuge, where flowing rivers support a plethora of species. In addition to the Big Five (lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards and rhinos), keep your camera handy for sights such as a cheetah bolting after a fleet Thomson’s gazelle. Enjoy ideal game viewing, as your highly experienced driver-guide strives continually to keep you in the heart of the action.

Accommodations vary by departure date.  See Dates & Prices tab for details.

Day 8: Depart Arusha

Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

Fly to Arusha and relax in a comfortable dayroom before transferring to the airport for your flight home.

Arusha Coffee Lodge (dayroom)

Wings over Mediterranean Sept 2022. Other than the intra-city flights which were first class private jet, the rest was......average. Tour buses with windows too small to see any passing points of interest. A 250 sq ft "luxury" hotel room---thought I was in a Motel 8. Museum tours led by local experts who over-talked so long that they cut into anything that was planned for the remainder of that day. Restaurants....3 in particular very small, crowded, and not even remotely above average. Written itinerary says "and then return to your host city and enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your leisure." No way...we usually got back to the hotel around 5:30 after already passing up at least one planned exhibit. We had no special tour group privileges...we were just part of the pack and were overrun by tourists at every stop. $40,000 per person....a big huge "ouch"

We took the A & K Small Group Tour to Rome, Florence & Venice. The experience exceeded expectations! Wonderful itinerary (with the ability to flex to the group's unique needs & requests!). Our guide (Emmanuela) was exceptional! Fun, extremely organized, considerate of all group members & always making sure that we had a 5-Star experience. Highly recommend this company (& this tour) - we will travel with A & K again!

We are just returning from our African safari and it was amazing! It exceeded our every expectation. The best part was spending time with our excellent A&K guides Ngochi and Ngige. We learned so much from them and they were excellent spotters. I loved seeing their excitement when we spotted something new. It is obvious they love what they do even after 20 years in the business.
This trip should be on everyone’s bucket list and I would highly recommend A&K and encourage you to request Ngochi and Ngige.
Covid threw us a few curves (mandatory Covid tests, masks, etc) but it is a great time to travel. We felt completely safe and were on our own private safari!

We booked our bucket list trip to Southeast Asia, we were scheduled to depart on March 4th. That’s when the Corona Pandemic was becoming rampant worldwide. We were reaching out to them constantly during the weeks beforehand, looking to reschedule or cancel our trip due to the travel hazards. We were shocked to find out there was NO understanding nor negotiating options with them or upper management. We have heard from several other friends who had trips scheduled around this same timeframe and their companies reached out to them directly and offered refunds or scheduling changes due to the Corona Pandemic. We will NEVER RECOMMEND OR USE THEM AGAIN. TRAVELERS BEWARE.
