Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Arusha, Tanzania

Accommodation: Arusha Coffee Lodge

Arrive in Arusha and transfer to your lodge, situated on a working coffee plantation. Your private chalet near Mount Meru features a log fireplace and a balcony.

Day 2: Tarangire National Park | Wildlife Sightings

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Sanctuary Swala

Meet young Africans who are overcoming unique learning challenges when you visit Ilboru Primary School, one of the few schools in the region that offers programs for deaf and special needs children, a project supported by A&K Philanthropy. Then, travel to Tarangire National Park, where open grasslands, acacia trees and the Tarangire River paint the wild landscape. Spend the afternoon on a game drive in search of eland, oryx, wildebeests, zebras and a large elephant population. Keep your eyes trained for hartebeests, gazelles and exotic birds like the bateleur and martial eagle. Tonight, gather with fellow guests for a welcome dinner.

Day 3: Tarangire National Park | A Lesson in Local Cuisine

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Sanctuary Swala

Today, enjoy morning and afternoon game drives. Your local expert driver-guide draws on years of experience in the bush to locate the best wildlife viewing opportunities right as they happen. This afternoon, learn how to prepare local dishes like ugali and kachumbari as part of an A&K Chef’s Table experience.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater | Amphitheater of Animals

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp

As you cross the Great Rift Valley, stop for a market visit in Mto wa Mbu, where stalls brim with vibrant local produce. Then, see the village from a different perspective as you Ride Like a Local on a tuk-tuk, viewing the local community and rice fields as you go. Next, take a scenic drive to tranquil Gibb’s Farm, where you stop for a lunch made with organic, just-picked ingredients. Later, arrive at the natural amphitheater of Ngorongoro Crater, a 2,000-foot-deep caldera. A fascinating microcosm of East African wildlife — including buffalo, flamingos, lions and leopards — resides inside. Climb the outer wall, passing through dense vegetation until a breathtaking view across the crater floor appears. Arrive at your camp — located on the rim of the crater and featuring elegant, tented accommodations adorned with handwoven rugs, comfortable beds with crisp linens, and en suite bathrooms with flush toilets and bucket showers — and enjoy plenty of hot water provided by your private tent attendant. Relax on your veranda to view the panoramic natural wonderland.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater | Intimate Crater Barbecue

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp

Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a vast expanse where animal activity is commonplace. Avoid the crowded picnic sites during a private hot gourmet lunch, prepared by your camp staff, as a symphony of wildlife sounds envelop you. This afternoon, visit with an elder at a Maasai village, where you learn about the tribe’s traditional, nomadic lifestyle and coexistence with wildlife. You also partake in an artisan visit with a demonstration in traditional beadwork and crafts. Later, witness a private dance performance at your tented camp. Sense the incomparable spirit of this pastoral, nomadic people who have kept their tribal traditions alive through countless generations of life in East Africa.

Day 6: Serengeti National Park | Searching the Vast Plains

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Sanctuary Kusini / Sanctuary Serengeti Migration Camp

Fly to the fabled Serengeti National Park and settle into your camp. Then, set out on the boundless Serengeti, one of the oldest and least-changed ecosystems on earth, where the circle of life plays out every day, as it has for eons. It is home to one of the world’s largest concentrations of wildlife, with lions, hyenas and leopards all endemic. The region also hosts the spectacular Great Migration, when a flurry of wildebeests and zebras arrive in search of grass and water. It is an epic spectacle you may witness depending on your choice of departure. This evening, as the equatorial sun hangs low over the plains, take a moment to sip a cocktail and reflect on the majesty of Africa during a relaxing Scenic Sundowner experience.

Day 7: Serengeti National Park | Where the “Big Five” Roam

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Sanctuary Kusini / Sanctuary Serengeti Migration Camp

Venture out on morning and afternoon game drives in the protected Serengeti refuge, where flowing rivers support a variety of birds, mammals and reptiles. In addition to the “Big Five” (lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards and rhinos), keep your camera handy for a cheetah bolting after a fleet Thomson’s gazelle. Enjoy ideal game viewing throughout your time in the bush, as your highly experienced A&K-trained driver-guide strives continually to keep you in the heart of the action. Tonight, gather for a memorable farewell dinner.

Day 8: Depart Arusha

Meals: Breakfast

Accommodation: Arusha Coffee Lodge (Dayroom)

Fly to Arusha. Relax in a comfortable dayroom in anticipation of your flight home.

Wings over Mediterranean Sept 2022. Other than the intra-city flights which were first class private jet, the rest was......average. Tour buses with windows too small to see any passing points of interest. A 250 sq ft "luxury" hotel room---thought I was in a Motel 8. Museum tours led by local experts who over-talked so long that they cut into anything that was planned for the remainder of that day. Restaurants....3 in particular very small, crowded, and not even remotely above average. Written itinerary says "and then return to your host city and enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your leisure." No way...we usually got back to the hotel around 5:30 after already passing up at least one planned exhibit. We had no special tour group privileges...we were just part of the pack and were overrun by tourists at every stop. $40,000 per person....a big huge "ouch"

We took the A & K Small Group Tour to Rome, Florence & Venice. The experience exceeded expectations! Wonderful itinerary (with the ability to flex to the group's unique needs & requests!). Our guide (Emmanuela) was exceptional! Fun, extremely organized, considerate of all group members & always making sure that we had a 5-Star experience. Highly recommend this company (& this tour) - we will travel with A & K again!

We are just returning from our African safari and it was amazing! It exceeded our every expectation. The best part was spending time with our excellent A&K guides Ngochi and Ngige. We learned so much from them and they were excellent spotters. I loved seeing their excitement when we spotted something new. It is obvious they love what they do even after 20 years in the business.
This trip should be on everyone’s bucket list and I would highly recommend A&K and encourage you to request Ngochi and Ngige.
Covid threw us a few curves (mandatory Covid tests, masks, etc) but it is a great time to travel. We felt completely safe and were on our own private safari!

We booked our bucket list trip to Southeast Asia, we were scheduled to depart on March 4th. That’s when the Corona Pandemic was becoming rampant worldwide. We were reaching out to them constantly during the weeks beforehand, looking to reschedule or cancel our trip due to the travel hazards. We were shocked to find out there was NO understanding nor negotiating options with them or upper management. We have heard from several other friends who had trips scheduled around this same timeframe and their companies reached out to them directly and offered refunds or scheduling changes due to the Corona Pandemic. We will NEVER RECOMMEND OR USE THEM AGAIN. TRAVELERS BEWARE.
