Accommodation
The seven villas are well spaced out among the two acres of gardens and are perfect for those who are looking for something a bit different rather than just another hotel room. The villas are characterful and cozy, giving a ‘home from home’ feeling, and each is unique.
One Bedroom VillaBoth of the one bedroom villas feature four-poster king size bed, Wi-Fi, stereo system with CD-player and ceiling fans. The kitchen is fully fitted, with fridge, ice maker, oven, microwave, Nespresso machine, kettle, coffee maker and blender along with all crockery and cooking utensils.
Deluxe Villa - Single StoryThese deluxe villas are extremely spacious and designed for maximum comfort and privacy inside and out. As well as a large living room and fully fitted kitchen there are two air-conditioned en suite bedrooms, a master bedroom with a four-poster bed and a second bedroom with two queen beds. A large sun deck features a hot tub large enough for six people.
The villas include a fully fitted kitchen with fridge, ice maker, oven, microwave, Nespresso machine, kettle, coffee maker and blender, crockery and cooking utensils as well as Wi-Fi, stereo system with CD-player and ceiling fans.
Deluxe Villa - Double StoryOffering plenty of space and comfort, these double story villas feature a large lounge and fully fitted kitchen upstairs along with 2 bedrooms downstairs. The master bedroom has a four-poster bed while the second bedroom has two queen beds.
As with the single story Deluxe Villas, there is a sun deck with a hot tub large enough for six people.
Although the villas have a kitchen and are completely set up to self-cater, guests often dine at The Aquarium Restaurant, which is down on the beach, just two minutes’ walk from the villas. They don’t offer breakfast, but they’re open from 10am until 10pm daily in high season, six days a week in low season.
Set right on the beachfront, The Aquarium is very popular with locals and serves international dishes with a Caribbean twist, with much of the ingredients either grown in their own organic nursery or produce from their rainforest farm. On Sundays they offer an all-day barbecue with live Reggae music in the afternoon.
Although there is no specific room service menu, Maca Bana can have meals from Aquarium in the privacy of their villa or can even arrange for a private chef or cooking lessons in their villa.
There are other local restaurants between 5-15 minutes drive away, or for a small fee, the resort will also do your grocery shopping for you if you’d prefer to cook for yourself.
There is a small infinity pool at Maca Bana Villas and they provide complimentary kayaks to use at the beach as well as snorkeling equipment you can collect from reception. Maca Bana is perfect for snorkeling as there is a snorkel reef right off the beach in front of The Aquarium Restaurant. Magazine Beach is less sheltered than Grand Anse Beach so there can be more of a swell here.
There is no dive center at Maca Bana Villas, but many dive operators on the island offer a free transfer from the resort. Grenada is the perfect place for divers of all levels, as there are more than 30 sites where you can experience colorful coral reefs, spectacular shipwrecks, exhilarating drift dives and a unique underwater sculpture park.
Spa FacilitiesMaca Bana Villas offers spa treatments in the comfort of guest villas, either inside or on the sundeck. A wide range of health and beauty treatments are available, as well as private yoga or meditation sessions.
A unique property bursting with character, the spacious private villas at Maca Bana have something of a fairytale charm. Unlike a regular hotel, the villas feel more like your own private home, albeit one that comes with stunning views down to a beautiful beach.
Set on a hillside overlooking picturesque Magazine Beach, Maca Bana has a wonderfully tranquil location amid lush tropical gardens. The seven villas offer a great sense of seclusion as well as generous private space. No two villas are the same and the unique design and Caribbean style give the whole property a memorable charm. There's a small pool near the villas while down the hill at the beach there are kayaks and snorkeling equipment. The Aquarium, the property's excellent restaurant, is very popular with locals. Sitting right by the beach it attracts diners from across the island. Serving a selection of international dishes with a Caribbean twist, many of the ingredients are sourced from Maca Bana's own organic nursery and rainforest farm. Just beyond the restaurant sits a beautiful reef which offers some of the best snorkeling on the island with shipwrecks, drift dives and an underwater sculpture park to be discovered nearby.
A world away from other hotels, the seven extremely spacious villas are individually designed with either one, two or three bedrooms. All include full sized, well-equipped kitchens, along with welcoming wood and rattan furniture. Each also offers a wooden deck with hot tub, often with superb views.
Before the beach - 4 days Barbados East CoastBuffeted by Atlantic rollers, the rugged east coast of Barbados has a remarkably different landscape and character to the island's more famous west and south coasts. Far fewer visitors make it here and the huge waves and striking rock formations are best appreciated from the wide but largely deserted sweeps of golden sand that line its shore. Drive the East Coast Road for dramatic seascapes backed by looming hills, go rock pooling or beach combing, ride along the sands, surf the world-famous Soup Bowl or enjoy more tranquil scenes at the wonderful Andromeda Botanical Gardens and Orchid World.
A delightful east coast escape, the Atlantis offers discreet luxury in an immaculately restored property reminiscent of a New England inn. Sample a delectable Bajan buffet then retire to a romantic room with a four-poster bed overlooking wild Atlantic waves.
DescriptionMaca Bana Villas is perched atop two acres of seafront hillside, with spectacular views of Grenada's capital, St. George's, and the picturesque Magazine Beach below, one of Grenada’s best beaches yet surprisingly undeveloped.
There are just seven uniquely designed one and two bedroom villas, each offering privacy, space and something different from the typical beach resort. With much more of a home from home atmosphere you’ll feel like you’re living like a local at this charming, hidden gem.
LocationMaca Bana Villas is located on the south west coast of Grenada, with a hillside setting that gives fantastic views all along the beautiful coastline and down to Magazine Beach below. Arguably one of Grenada’s best beaches, Magazine Beach is a 500 meter long stretch of golden sand that despite its beauty is largely undeveloped and usually quiet.
Although the resort is quite isolated, there are restaurants and bars approximately five minutes’ drive away. The resort is also only five minutes' drive from the airport.
Please note that the driveway down to the beach and restaurant is very steep and this resort may not be suitable for those who are less mobile.
For familiesFamilies are welcomed at Maca Bana Villas and the two-bedroom villas can sleep a family of four comfortably. However, Maca Bana is not ideal for small children, as some villas have a sheer drop from their terraces, the walk down to the beach is very steep and the sea shelves quickly.
Barbados East Coast Location: BarbadosSkirted by 97 kilometers of contrasting coastline, Barbados is an island that rewards exploration. Along the southern and eastern shores you can expect dramatic cliffs, crashing waves and stunning ocean views, while the north and west of the island are lapped by the more tranquil waters of the balmy Caribbean Sea.
Culturally Barbados is a blend of West African spice and British tradition giving it a unique flavor. Islanders and tourists alike come together on a Friday night in the south coast village of Oistins for the weekly fish fry, a quintessentially Bajan experience, while historic Bridgetown, the capital, is a diverting destination full of colonial character.
The topography of the island interior is markedly less dramatic than the neighboring volcanic islands of Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent, though the countryside of gently rolling hills and sugar cane fields hides brightly colored, traditional wooden houses, quaint little churches, colonial plantation houses and the natural wonders of Harrison’s Cave.
The Atlantis Hotel Accommodations: The Atlantis HotelIf you’re looking to experience the quieter, wilder and more rugged east coast of Barbados, a short stay at the Atlantis Hotel is perfect. Now reminiscent of a New England style inn, this property dates back to the 1800s and has been immaculately restored by the owners Andrew and Patricia Warden while retaining real sense of the island’s history.
Set right at the water’s edge with the sound of the waves crashing against the rugged shore, this boutique hotel has a dramatic location in a setting far removed from the glamorous west coast and an excellent restaurant that draws visitors from around the island. The original hotel was a stop on the route of the old Barbados railway and memorabilia around the hotel of that time evokes its heritage.
