Overview

Short Description

This is an escorted tour. It’s perfect if you prefer not to do your own driving and want to see as many sights as you can during your vacation.

GOOD NEWS - The local tour operator will no longer require a COVID-19 vaccination for travelers as of March 1, 2023.  For travelers departing before March 1, the tour operator requires that travelers aged 12 and older provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination in the form of written documentation (paper or electronic copy), in English, for all vacations. Proof of vaccination must be completed at least 14 days prior to the tour start date. *Exceptions apply to children who do not qualify for vaccination.

Cover Italy’s main sites on this unforgettable vacation. Start in Rome and visit the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s, the Colosseum, and more. Stop in Orvieto, perched high atop a volcanic rock, visit the cathedral and taste local pastries in Caffé Montanucci, a traditional pasticceria.

Next is Florence, “Cradle of the Renaissance.” Admire Michelangelo’s David and sculpture-studded Signoria Square before continuing to St. Anthony’s Padua. Spend a full day in romantic Venice: ride a private boat, and your guided walking tour features St. Mark’s Square and Basilica, Doges’ Palace, and the Bridge of Sighs, as well as a glassblower demonstration. In Verona, see Juliet’s balcony and the Arena, then arrive in Milan, where you'll visit the Museum of La Scala Opera House and a wonderful excursion to Lake Como, where a private boat ride takes you to picturesque Bellagio.

Itinerary

Day 1 Welcome to Rome!

Welcome to Rome! In the evening, meet your Tour Director and travelling companions, then leave the hotel for a special welcome dinner at one of Rome's lively restaurants. Get ready for the first of many delicious Italian dinners!

Day 2 Rome

Fuel up with a delicious breakfast, then seize the day! Enjoy a unique guided sightseeing, including inside visits to all highlights of religious and ancient Rome: the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel with Michelangelo's ceiling paintings and The Last Judgment, monumental St. Peter's Square and Basilica to admire Michelangelo's Pieta, the amazing Colosseum, and the Roman Forum, where Roman legions marched in triumph. To make the most of your stay, join our optional walking tour, and see the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and other sites and squares of medieval Rome made famous in the movie Angels & Demons.

Day 3 Rome - Orvieto - Assisi

After breakfast, stop in Orvieto, perched high atop a volcanic rock. You'll have time this afternoon to browse through the charming shops in the lanes off Piazza del Duomo, and to visit the fabulous gothic Cathedral with its San Brizio Chapel. Taste local pastries in Caffa Montanucci, a historic pasticceria (bakery) for more than 100 years, before continuing to Assisi for your overnight stay. Your guided walking tour includes visits to St. Clare's Church and St. Francis' Basilica, the hub of a religious order devoted to the ideals of humility, forgiveness, simplicity, and love for all God's creatures.

Day 4 Assisi - Florence - Padua

Grab your camera and get ready to explore Florence, the Cradle of the Renaissance. This morning, you will enjoy a walking tour with a local guide. Visit the Academy of Fine Arts to admire Michelangelo's celebrated David. Marvel at the magnificent marble cathedral, Giotto's Bell Tower, the Baptistry's heavy bronze Gate of Paradise, and sculpture-studded Signoria Square. Continue through the Apennine Mountains and the flat Po area to Padua for an orientation of St. Anthony's city and your overnight stay.

Day 5 Padua - Venice - Padua

A short drive brings you to Venice. Enter in style by private boat and meet your local guide. Highlights of your walking tour are St. Mark's Square and the Byzantine Basilica, lavish Doges' Palace and the Bridge of Sighs. Also watch a skilled Glassblower fashion delicate objects in an age-old traditional manner. Afterward, enjoy Venice at your own pace or join an optional cruise to the charming island of Burano.

Day 6 Padua - Verona - Milan

Journey to Verona, the medieval setting of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Take pictures of Juliet's balcony and rub the shining breast on her statue for good luck. Continue to the Arena, an incredibly well-preserved pink marble Roman amphitheater, where gladiators used to fight. Built in the 1st century AD, it is now the magical venue for world-famous opera performances. Then, on to the dynamic city of Milan, where you'll enjoy a visit to the Museum of the famous La Scala Opera House, and a walk to the glass-domed Galleria and the magnificent gothic Duomo.

Day 7 Milan - Lake Como - Milan

Lake Como is regarded as one of Europe's most beautiful lakes and has attracted many aristocrats and famous people to come and live there in one of the many villas that line the lakeshore. Enjoy a Boat Ride and visit picturesque Bellagio, the Pearl of Lake Como and already popular as a destination in Roman times.

This evening, back in Milan, a special farewell risotto dinner with wine awaits you at a local restaurant.

Day 8 Depart Milan

Squeeze all your souvenirs into your luggage and say ciao to Italy! Enjoy a comfortable transfer to the airport, then board your flight home.

The reservations, car rental, and hotel reservations all worked well, with no issues. The additional tickets to attractions also worked well. We really enjoyed our time there and would love to go back one day. The value for the trip was great. Now, on the not-so-great side was that two of the 5 hotels were far off course from the route we wanted to take and were not in synch with the attractions we purchased as an add on. Celtic Ross and Ocean Sands hotels were a bit far removed from our preferred route that we would have liked to have taken and not feel rushed. These two hotels, although nice, were nowhere near any of the attractions and cities we wanted to see (Cork and Galway), but we were forced to adjust our scheduled to hit the attractions and make it to the hotels. This made for a couple of days where we had to drive great distances ,in the rain and in rural Ireland, to make it to the hotels. We made friends from a couple from PA that made the same exact trip to Ireland with GVV and they were unable to see the Cliffs of Moher attraction because they just didn't feel like they could make it due to the extended drive ranges. I called in to GVV home office before we left USA to see if I could adjust the hotel arrangements to make the tour more enjoyable but was immediately told that I could make no adjustments to the itinerary. Hotels in Kilkenny and Limerick were both awesome and right in the heart of the city and easy to get to. The last hotel in Swords was nice because it was close to the airport for final trip back to the airport. So, to make this Ireland trip more enjoyable, the hotels need to be closer to the attraction packages you guys sell so as not force a huge amount of driving to see them and make it to the next hotel. Overall, we loved the Ireland trip. I am surprised they let us Americans jump in a car rental and drive on their opposite side of the roads (left). PS; Wild Kerry Tours did an awesome job as well, but the start point of the tour was a little challenging to find in Killarney.

The customer service was horrible. I sent multiple emails, called multiple times and maybe got a response once. Outside of that my trip was good.

Excellent booking, poor quality hotels

Excellent flights to and from Dublin. Some issues with obtaining car insurance at the rental agency (it is required to purchase extra before they release the car to you). Only one out of the 4 hotels was a true 4 star hotel. The rest were closer to 2-2.5.

This was our first time in Ireland. We loved the accommodations and everything about Ireland. The itinerary and experiences were exceptional. Our only comment is that there was a lot of driving to the sites and locations. We would definitely recommend the 12 day. We were unable to see some recommended sites because we had to backtrack. We will be booking another vacation through Great Value.
