Itinerary

Day 1 Seville

Hola! Welcome to Spain and the city of Seville, capital of Andalucia and the largest city in southern Spain. Meet the tour group at 7 pm this evening and perhaps get to know each other over a late night dinner – Spanish-style!

Day 2 Seville

Meet with your bike support team and get fitted to a bike before commencing a historical cycling tour around town, exploring both the classic and modern Seville. The tour will go for around three hours and covers interesting places in Triana, such as the old historic centre, the Maria Luisa Park, and Plaza de Espana. Ride - Approx. 15 km. No elevation gain

Day 3 Zahara de la Sierra/Grazalema

Cycle the Via Verde de la Sierra and to Zahara de la Sierra today. Begin with a transfer to the town of Puerto Serrano, where the Via Verde (green road) de la Sierra starts. Vias Verdes are disused railway lines, normally used in their day for mining transportation purposes, now repurposed for cycling and walking. Cycle 16 km up to the old train station of Coripe. Take secondary roads for a further 15 km to the town of Algodonales. Pedal a further 9 km to Zahara de la Sierra, set atop a hill with a majestic castle hanging from the rocks and overlooking a turquoise reservoir. It's a perfect place to have a picnic. Afterwards, continuing cycling on flat terrain next to the Reservoir for a further 10 km. Finish the day with a private transfer up the mountains to the beautiful town of Grazalema. Cycling distance: 50 km Elevation gain: 1025 m

Day 4 Ronda

Today's cycling route takes you from Grazalema to Ronda. You can cycle all the way, with no need for a transfer. Head from Grazalema down to the valley and through beautiful secondary roads, along a canyon, and to the village of Montejaque and later Benaojan and Jimera de Libar. Finish in the town of Atajate, then take a transfer to the famous town of Ronda and see its beautiful bridge over the cliffs. Since today's cycling is not too long, there is ample time for a walking tour around town before dinner. Cycling distance: 43 km. Elevation gain: 880 m

Day 5 El Chorro & Antequera

Today's ride is a most beautiful one – Ronda to El Chorro. Departing Ronda, climb to the mountain pass of El Viento, located in the Natural Park of the Sierra de las Nieves. Then descend to the lovely white village of El Burgo. From there, cycle to the equally photogenic Ardales, on less demanding terrain. Finally, enjoy a nice descent to El Chorro, who sheer walls make it a popular destination among climbers. For the last stretch, to Antequera, take a transfer. Stretch the legs on a visit to Antequera Alcazaba, the 14th century Moorish fortress set on a hilltop (your entry fee is taken care of). Climb the 50 steps of the Torre del Homenaje for some nice views of the 'Rock of Lovers' and beyond. Cycling distance: 60 km Elevation gain: 900 m

Day 6 Fuente de Piedra Natural Reserve - Antequera

On today's cycling adventure you can forget about the mountains and instead check out a nature reserve known for its birdlife. Ride along nice, flat planes towards the Natural Reserve of the Laguna de Fuente de Piedra (Lagoon of the Fountain of Stone). Here you can likely see a colony of flamingoes that lives here for long periods of the year. Afterwards, take a transfer back to the hotel in lively Antequera and enjoy a leisurely evening. Cycling distance: 52 km Elevation gain: 204 m

Day 7 Zuheros

Today's cycling route takes you from Puente Genil to Zuheros. Head along Via Verde, which is free of cars and almost flat. This time you use an old railway track that runs through endless olive groves next to the Natural Park of the Sierras Subbeticas to finish in the beautiful village of Zuheros, another town with an eye-catching castle. This town is famous for its goats cheese, so if you have time, perhaps pop over to Las Balanchares where you can buy some straight from the source. Cycling distance: 48 km Elevation gain: 350 m

Day 8 Granada

Enjoy a day off the bike. With no cycling on the agenda, take the time to enjoy the magnificent ancient city of Granada. The narrow hilly stone streets of this town don't lend itself to cycling, but are of course a dream to stroll around. Your leader will take you on a walking tour through the old Moorish area with local craft market, shops, and tea houses. We will also visit the precursor to the famed Alhambra, the Palacio de la Madraza. This complex housed the Muslim School of Islamic Law founded by Yusuf I in the 14th century and later became Granada's first City Hall 'Casa del Cabildo'. Currently the palace houses a number of departments of the University of Granada. The visit includes an interesting mix of architecture and gives you a small insight into Granada's colourful history. At the end of the day why not enjoy an optional farewell dinner with the group. Granada is well known for its particular take on Spanish cuisine, so make the most of it. Note: Growing tourist crowds, especially from cruise ships, have made gaining entry to the spectacular Alhambra palace a real challenge, and are often sold out months in advance for group bookings. For this reason we do not include entry. Should you wish to visit the Alhambra we advise booking online.

Day 9 Granada

The trip comes to an end, with no further activities planned.

The trip was very well planned. We visited cities, large towns and small villages which was a great mix of culture. There were activities organised if you wanted to participate - a bike ride, a kayak trip and a hike. All these activities were well worth the experience. Our guide also recommended places to eat and we always went on her recommendation and it was always excellent. On arrival in each town the orientation walk is so helpful then the next day you have your bearings when exploring the towns. Lastly our leader was excellent. She was patient, approachable, friendly and humorous. She helped make our trip so wonderful.

Love adventures but the size of the cabins on our trip to the Cyclades Islands are extremely cramped . We have three mature adults in one cabin with no space to move and no space to hang or store anything ( including wet towels ).
If any of us had been physically inflexible or overweight we could not have coped with the sleeping arrangements . It is impossible to sit on the top bunk and even turning over in bed requires considerable planning .
An adventure does not mean cutting back on basic essentials …
In our view there were too many people in too small a space .
Two complete strangers were also asked to sleep together in an extremely small double bed , which meant that one of them decided to sleep on deck or in the living space .
The only redeeming factor was our Skipper who is professional, friendly , informative and skilled .
I would recommend this trip if the numbers were reduced .

I feel totally cheated. Just finished the Spain and Portugal 14 day trip. The itinerary does not match the actual experience and is I feel deliberately miss leading. When I says a “local bus” and an approx 3 hour journey the reality is a 6 hour trip door to door in the middle of the day. You miss valuable time at the actual destination in favour of being jammed in a bus with dozens of people traveling on a freeway with nothing worth seeing at all. The bush are not even express so you stop in the industrial outskirts of a number of towns and even the airport. By the time you finally reach the destination you are tired and frustrated. I want my money back. It’s a cheap experience that you pay a lot of money for.

Booked a premium tour to Israel and paid in full. Once I paid Intrepid changed the tour, not because of operational or safety reasons but on the basis of previous customers feedback. We asked them to keep the tour as it was advertised originally and they suggested we ask our group to see if we can persuade them to go to the original destination once we had arrived in Israel which is simply ridiculous and then I complained so they offered my money back. Not exactly the best resolution now that I already paid for my flights and booked time off separately. Hopefully the tour will be better than my experience so far.

No help when things go wrong (seriously ill on trip)

Unfortunately, Intrepid is a company I would recommend being wary of. They are fine as long as everything is going ok, but if anything goes wrong? Don't expect any help or decent customer service. I made the mistake of booking two trips, and both times I ran into problems:

Trip 1- I was taken very ill while in Vietnam and had to drop out of the tour. I had no help from the guide- no help with getting to a doctor (I don't speak Vietnamese and was too ill to get out of bed anyway), he didn't even assist with arranging a hotel room.

Trip 2- I've had to cancel an upcoming (2024) trip, but haven't received the refund despite phoning the customer service line several times. The people I talk to are nice, but don't seem to be able to actually get anything done. They just suggest waiting a bit longer- not sure how long they think is acceptable to hang on to someone's money really.

Guides

All Intrepid cycling group trips are accompanied by one of our cycling leaders. The aim of the group leader is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. Intrepid endeavours to provide the services of an experienced leader however, due to the seasonality of travel, rare situations may arise where your leader is new to a particular region or training other group leaders. Our cycling leaders are all passionate cyclists, as you’d expect, but they also go through some pretty rigorous cycle-trip specific training. Each one has undergone on-road training and supervision and knows how to do safety checks, basic repairs and emergency first-aid. And at the end of the day they’re still regular Intrepid leaders, which means they will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, recommend great local eating venues and introduce you to our local friends. While not being guides in the traditional sense you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the places visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious and social aspects. At Intrepid we aim to support local guides who have specialised knowledge of the regions we visit. If you were interested in delving deeper into the local culture at a specific site or location then your leader can recommend a local guide service in most of the main destinations of your trip.
